Queen Bee!! (Steve Hayes x Reader) (RUMBLE FISH)

Notes: @dear-babydoll why thank you for encouraging me to be the change I want to see in the world, welcome to my first ever Steve Hayes fic, he's so cute and I hope this is good and not OOC because I had a good time writing it

Now, if there was one thing everyone knew, it was that you were the girl Rusty-James had been lusting over for yeaaaaaars on end, but if there was one thing even more abundant, it was that you didn't like Rusty-James, and even better, you were one of the most popular girls in town, even just in your all girls school you ruled

And claiming Rusty-James wasn't your type was great considering you did have a type you went after, and it was needless to say most people were shocked when they discovered the boy you chose to chase after and make your claim on was Steve Hayes, hell it even shocked him in the end!

And now that you'd gotten with Steve, Rusty-James liked to make it clear to anyone and everyone in the world that you two were together, no other bonehead in town could chase tail with you, even when you hung around in the same joint as Rusty-James and Steve did, people could just tell Rusty-James would be the one to get them if they tried a thing

"Ay! Where's the queen?" Midget called with a grin as Steve and Rusty-James entered, Steve raised and eyebrow and cocked his head to the side a little "The who?" He asks, Rusty-James just laughs a little at how clueless Steve was to your new nickname

"Not the who, the queen" Midget says swaying his head a little to mock Steve a little bit with a grin, Rusty-James shrugged "We started calling your girl the queen 'cuz she's so popular and all" He said with a smile and a nod, Steve just furrowed his brows a little, scrunching his face up completely

"Who am I then? Her obedient servant?" Steve asks with a little self deprecating eye roll, Rusty-James just nods "Sure pretty much, and I'm like the king cuz she wants me so bad" He nudges Steve who just mutters a "That's not even funny" When Midget bursts out laughing

The bell rings on the door as you enter with a groan, Rusty-James nods "I see schools out" Steve looks over watching you as you walk in, you sidle up to his side "Hiya" You say simply as you cuddle a little to Steves side, slinging your bag right onto Midgets lap who just grins and moves your bag to the side

You're still in your school uniform which you're known for not liking to Steve and Rusty-James, who've both heard plenty complaints about the teachers and nuns telling you off for different uniform violations, obviously since you seemed to make it your lifes mission to violate all dresscodes given, maybe that's why people found you so cool

"So what's up queenie?" Rusty-James asks lightly as you scrunch your own nose "Who the hell is queenie?" and Steve shakes his head with an eye roll "That's what I asked too" He huffs a little and you just nudge him amused

Rusty-James just shrugs "You, duh, cuz you're queen card 'round here aren't ya?" He says with a little shrug "And I'm king of the castle and Steve's the dirty rascal" He raises his eyebrows with a hum, and you shake your head, not bothering to feed the stupidity and teasing towards Steve, you know only Rusty-James can tease Steve scott free so you don't comment when he does

"Why did you choose Steve?" BJ finally speaks as he peers into his drink, you slide into a seat, Steve sliding in beside you "What is it, shit on Steve day?" He mutters and looks down at the table you just smile and shrug "Cuz he's more genuine than anyone else in this stupid town- plus, he's more handsome-" You continue amused

Steve just groans fake embarrassed but hey, he was having a good time hearing how much you liked him "Awwww, maybe he is the king, that's real cute" Rusty-James mocks with a grin to which Steve just groans "Whatever!"

The silence in the apartment was usually a sanctuary, but tonight it was oddly suffocating. He had only been back for an hour, the engine of the stolen bike still ticking as it cooled out on the street, when the air turned sour.

His Rusty-James’s voice was thin, reedy. His younger brother was standing by the window, a hand drifting from his hair to rub frantic, soothing circles into the crook of his elbow. His Rusty was shifting his weight, his lips parted in a jagged, uneven rhythm as he tried to mask the puffiness around his eyes. Like he thought he was playing it cool, like he thought he was hiding.

He takes a step forward, the floorboards groaning, His intent to offer some dry, dismissive comfort dying the second His gaze locked onto the inner arm of His brother.

The red haze didn't build; it slammed into Him. There, against the pale, bruised skin, was a pinprick- a dark, blossoming mark that told a story He had seen too many times not to know by heart.

"Motor, you, ya ain't actually gon' hurt me, right?"

Diane lane and matt dillon were only RUMOURED to have dated back in the 80s. THE EIGHTIES. shipping their characters (all but dallas and cherry) is fine but THEM?? first of all, they have their own lives and relationships. From what I know, diane is single but matt HAS A GF. "They have so much chemistry!! 🥺" maybe because they're actors and that's what they were told to do???? It's disrespectful to both of them and saying they should've ended up together as if they aren't real people is insane ESPECIALLY when one of them is taken. Yall are fucking weird.

I have yet to read or watch rumble fish but as I do with everything I want to watch I looked at a few edits and I saw Rustyboy so it got me wonderin’ if you got any hcs for them :D

I like the idea of age-gap Rustyboy where Ponyboy is older than Rusty-James and it's post-canon!TheOutsiders pre-canon!Rumblefish and Rusty-James reminds Pony of Dally, but yk what I love even more? THEM BOTH BEING PRE-CANON AND !$ AND RUSTY-JAMES BEING DALLY'S HALF-BROTHER AND PONY THINKING THAT THEM LOOKING EXACTLY ALIKE IS A COINCIDENCE AND THEN THEY DATE AND RUSTY BEING RELATED TO DALLY IS ONLY REVEALED WHEN PONY INTRODUCES HIM TO THE GANG!!!!!!

Yapper!Rusty-James/Yapper!Ponyboy !!!! Rusty-James who talks and talks about the most random shit or about his brother when it's just him and Pony, and Pony who goes on and on about books and his brothers.

They enable each other when it comes to taking too much Asprin. Rusty-James had SEVEN in the book. SEVEN.

They argue a LOT, whether about small or big things, because they're so different yet alike and one of their biggest similarities is their short-tempers. Fights start quick but cool down quicker, although they have come to blows when Ponyboy pushes too hard.

If Rusty-James is ever going to fight and he's bringing people, Pony will always be there without fail. Could be in the afternoon, the night, or the ass-crack of dawn, Pony is there.

Pony and Steve (Rumblefish Steve not Outsiders Steve) get along really well. Nothing else to say I just think they'd get along.

Pre/during-canon Pony would think that Rusty-James' love for fighting is tuff, and he would absolutely fight a dude with Rusty-James. Post-canon Pony all but begs Rusty-James to just slow down and stop mistaking spilled blood for worth.

Pony finds Rusty-James' insistence on not drinking soda endearing, but when he's mad at him he'll tease Rusty-James about drinking chocolate milk until Rusty-James gets mad.

Rusty-James likes playing pool in his spare time but Pony is horrible at it, so Rusty-James will sometimes let Ponyboy win is Pony is getting frustrated or if Pony has had a bad day.

During their later teen years (assuming Rusty-James doesn't get taken by the police) Rusty-James doesn't even consider touching anything stronger than a smoke, Ponyboy wants to try anything and everything at least once and becomes a regular marijuana smoker for a bit. They actually broke up a few times about this, but they always end up back together, and eventually Pony cools it goes back to just smokes.

The Curtis brothers aren't a huge fan of Rusty-James at first since he seems like trouble, but one night he comes stumbling in all beat up and crashes on their house, and his reasoning is 'no one is at my place right now' and makes a few other vague comments. Obviously Rusty-James played this off as a casual comment but Darry and Soda can read between the lines, and now they treat Rusty-James like another Ponyboy. They have the same amount of success in raising him that they would Dally, which is to say, none. Pony loves that his brothers like Rusty-James.

The Curtis brothers' newfound acceptance of Rusty-James doesn't stop him from being a menace and sneaking into the house, convincing Pony to sneak out of the house, and just generally being a bad influence.

They're surprisingly silly and sweet for an orphaned, short-tempered, insecure 14 year old and a neglected, short-tempered, reckless 14 year old. They really enjoy watching movies and sharing kisses on the couch, going to diners, gossiping, shit-talking, and complaining.

Rusty-James tries really hard to be the suave, bad boy, heartthrob, hood boyfriend, and sometimes he succeeds. Other times Pony ices him out and complains about him acting different until he gives up.
