A single ‘come here’ in that deep, authoritative tone from them holds so much weight and dominance that it compels you to obey- not loud and disrespectful, but heavy in a way that leaves no room for disobedience;
Your cheeks are rosy with anger and angry tears prick your eyes, done with your outburst and now just glaring at him. But he only stares at you calmly before walking to his armchair.
He sits back leisurely, legs spread, and pats his thigh, gesturing for you to come forward.
“Come here.”
You know it should irritate you. To be subtly patronised like some unruly child through this display of maturity in the face of your anger.
But you find your feet moving towards him, taking a seat on his thigh as his hand cups your rear and pulls you close.
His head inclined down to you, forcing your downcast eyes to look into his as he asks “Now tell me: What’s wrong?” His voice is soft velvet. “Why are you so angry?” His hands grip your nape softly- not in domination but to ground you- and inclines your head so he can look into your eyes better.
So that you can't hide your heart form him.
Your lips wobble as you find words to put to this feeling of helpless rage.
“I’m sorry.”
“I didn’t ask for an apology.” He says, his fingers now rubbing your nape “I know you don’t mean it. But something has distressed you, and you need to tell me.” He says, pulling your face a bit closer to his.
And at his prompting that is gentle in away that you haven't experienced from many in life, the dam in you breaks as you tell him everything. Angry tears pour from your eyes as you speak, and through it all he holds you against him.
Keeps holding you till your sobs have faded into hiccups to soft snores, your head resting on his shoulder as you exhaust yourself from all the crying, nose red, face blotchy with dried tears, and hands fisting into his forearm. He doesn't move in order to not disturb your already fitful sleep, his hands massaging your scalp lightly as his own eyelids start to feel heavy.
Sleep for now, he thinks as his eyes close, nose buried in your hair, I will take care of those pests later.
