So what exactly happened to Blue Devil? Heās this fun loving Hollywood hero for a while, then he joins the League, gets all serious, changes up his look, and now heās mostly a magic guy. What the heck happened there?
Dan Cassidy, AKA the Blue Devil is a unfortunately the owner of a story about the weight of responsibility and that for those who mingle in the world of the superhuman, it is always going to be a balancing act between living a life in harmony with their abilities and living a life that they can stomach when they look themselves in the eye. That there is never a time in which the hero life has taken "enough" from you and you can continue to coast on the dividends of your deeds. That it is often when we are most satisfied with ourselves that the world reminds us just how easily our moral compromises can escape our control.
(A picture of Cassidy in action)
For those of you who are of an older generation or just a the more dedicated kind of cinephile, the name Daniel Cassidy was already known to you. One of the most sought after an ambitious special effects gurus in Hollywood with the calling card that all of his best effects were performed "in camera" rather than being applied to the film after the fact. When tapped for a monster movie called Blue Devil by his friend and the film's director Marla Bloom, he created a powerful bionic suit with in built pyrotechnics and a trident capable of firing rocket powered blasts.
The film's stars, as Hollywood stars are want to do on a SHOCKINGLY regular basis somehow summoned a demon named Nebiros (Gwen: Nasty customer that). The demon nearly succeeding in claiming the souls of the entire crew if not for Cassidy's intervention, using the suit to banish the beast back to its other-dimensional prison. Caught in the crossfire of the demon's fading magic, Cassidy was bonded at the skin to the suit. Going from a devout Irish Catholic to a hulking devil's visage in a single afternoon.
Rather than the tragic spiral you would expect, though, Cassidy took to his new form in style. While often insisting to those in a VERY curious Hollywood media that he was no superhero he became wrapped up in a LONG series of bizarre occurrences in his native Los Angeles and beyond, becoming a common sight on national television and a few high profile films. Even picking up a sidekick that would become the hero known as Red Devil in later years. Though Cassidy remained committed to his disenchantment with the idea of the superhero life. He would help people where he could, even alongside actual superheroes before returning to his work at the first opportunity...until.
Faced with a career lull after the zeitgeist around his form faded and the odd events around him petered out he accepted a membership to the Justice League who had instituted a temporary "open door" policy in an attempt to account for a manpower shortfall. He made few friends during his first stint in the League, his attempts to leverage his position for glory and fame clashed with the League's core membership although he DID show up to the disasters in question and began to earn some grudging respect.
One night, for seemingly no reason, a power substation in the California desert went dark. At the time no one knew why. And through a long and winding series of unfortunate coincidence, Cassidy's friend Marla Bloom and a helicopter pilot lost their lives in a crash whose causes were traced back to the substation's destruction. A destruction that was in turn tracked back to Cassidy. Because Dan Cassidy had sold his soul. Literally.
Offering his soul to the demon Neron for fame, not knowing that "his soul" would be claimed by making him indirectly responsible for the death of his best friend and confidante. Blue Devil rose to the occasion and seemingly died cheating Neron of his soul. Resurrected by the machinations of other magical forces, Blue Devil was able to reclaim his freedom of action but had become, for good and for all, a demon.
Now Cassidy has dedicated himself to battling dark magic wherever it lingers as a member of the sorcerous collective called Shadowpact, often also known as the Justice League Dark. He has freely admitted to his guilt in the death of his friend and in not taking the responsibility of his power seriously enough until it was too late. That he played at being a hero for glory, game and self gratification and only realized the weight his decisions carried when it cost him something he could never replace.
When asked, he says he now fights to make sure there will never be another innocent soul claimed by the back biting lies of those powers who treat human lives as poker chips. A neverending battle fueled by a photograph of his human self and his friend Marla that remains laminated in the front pocket of his vest.

Im thinking of a scenario where Bernard and Tim happened to be in the same cafe line some point after Lauraās revival.
Some of Darlaās old friends see them and ask them if theyāre going to Darlaās funeral/memorial.
Tim obviously has no idea about it because he ghosted everyone & Heās confused at first because he forgot Laura didnāt reveal herself to anyone else. Bernard notices and remembers that Laura said she was going to find him.
After the others leave, Bernard asks Tim about it. Tim tells him sheās at the Shadowpact prison now.
Obviously, Bernard makes that everyoneās problem, including Tim, who is trying to talk Bernard out of a fist fight a team of literal warlocks.
