Sinu and Jake make me insane actually. I was trying to find a single word to describe their relationship for a fic and genuinely it is just not possible. They have the age gap of plausible siblings since I think Sinu was in his twenties when Jake was 16, but early Big Deal read more full grown adult vs these kids he picked off the sidewalk, and Jake’s continuous decision to devote his entire life to saving Sinu makes it seem more like Sinu is not just a person in his life but a representation of the ideal that he lives for, making it so that he doesn’t just love Sinu the way one would love a person (be it friend/lover/family member/comrade/leader/as Jake would like to put it, ‘everything’). He also loves Sinu the way he loves the very concept of Big Deal’s romance. To me, when it comes to Jake, Sinu is technically his former boss, functionally his older brother, and idealistically the kind of person he wishes his father was and also by proxy the kind of person he wants to be. Sinu is all of Big Deal—the street, the crew, the people, the way of living—everything Jake considers worth defending.
