According to Annals of Internal Medicine, sitting for extended periods of time increases your risk of disease and even shortens life span. After working almost 10 years in an office setting, I can attest to the stiff and achy feeling that comes along with working a job which involves mostly sitting. . . It is important for professionals to incorporate intervals of movement throughout the day to keep the body supple, aligned and maintain proper blood circulation. By spending at least 10 minutes doing yoga related movement or meditation, you reap the benefits of a balanced and more energized work day. You also won't want to slap your co-workers due to lowered stress levels. #bonus . . Spinal twists are great and easy to do right your desk. They help to restore proper spinal alignment and aid in healthy digestion. By taking a moment at your desk to twist your body you may also experience: improved posture, increased lung capacity, and improved focus. Below is a great way to practice spinal twisting at your desk. * Turn sideways in your chair. * Plant both feet to the ground nice and firm. * Hold on to the back of the chair with both hands and twist from the lower spine. * Use your breathe when you twist.
