Btw, before anyone comes for me, I'm not saying men can't be feminine or whatever, but how artists draw trans characters is a BIG tell on how they see them in real life. Generally speaking I haven't ever met someone who drew feminine trans guys without making them look outright like women and treating them like uwu soft bois lmao

You need dysphoria to be trans and medicalizing treatment for trans people saves lives. If you don’t experience a disconnect from your assigned gender at birth, there is no reason for you to transition. Being transgender is a neurological condition with the only treatment being medically transitioning. It isn’t a fun trend, and if you treat it that way, you’re trivializing something that you clearly do not understand.

So it occurs to me that a lot of people don't quite know what gender dysphoria is.

So I wanted to make an easy explanation post on what is and what isn't dysphoria!

>So What Is It?

Gender Dysphoria involves a conflict between someone's assigned gender at birth (their sex) and the gender they are in their mind.

This can make people look in the mirror and feel that their body is wrong, it does cause discomfort and often times distress. They also feel uncomfortable with pronouns associated with their agab, along with their birth name most of the time.

If you're uncomfortable with the pronouns associated with your agab, that's gender dysphoria babey!

>Well Alright But What Do You Do About It?

Some people may just want to socially transition, meaning they use the pronouns they prefer, maybe pick up a new name, and dress in a way that makes them feel more comfortable.

But often times in order to feel comfortable, people will start taking hormones to medically transition. These change your body fat distribution and your voice, what your skin feels like and where your body hair grows. This makes it easier to pass as the sex you see yourself as!

A lot of people also get surgeries to medically transition, but not everyone takes this route because of medical reasons, societal reasons, and just the fact that not all sex reassignment surgeries are developed enough.

>Gender Euphoria?

Another part of gender dysphoria is the feeling of gender euphoria!

Gender euphoria is a feeling of happiness or relief when you're reaffirmed as your gender.

It's a lack of gender dysphoria, it feels amazing because it feels right.

You may look in the mirror after just putting on your binder and feel so happy because you feel like that's how you were always supposed to look.

Or when somebody calls you by the correct pronouns the first time! It feels great to be seen as the correct gender.

>What If It's Something Else?

Unfortunately because of a lot of language used in trans spaces, some young people confuse body dysmorphia for gender dysphoria.

The best way to find out what your needs are is to go to a therapist! They've studied all sorts of medical things and if it is something other than gender dysphoria they can help treat you a different way.

And if it is gender dysphoria, they're the ones who can start helping you medically transition if you're wanting to go that route.

>But I Don't Want Being Trans To Be Considered An Illness

It's a neurological condition! It's not something you can change.

It's important to note that just because gender dysphoria is a medical condition, doesn't mean anything's wrong with you if you have it!

It just means your brain is different than other people's.

Trans men/women are real men/women but they are still chromosomally their birth gender and may be at risk of the same medical issues as their chromosomal sex
