Yapping about me drawing Hal (I'm an artist fulltime, which is surprising, I know) and Bruce.
These are my personal headcanons as poorly done guidelines, which I make for myself for future art project purposes. This is not canon. And you may see this and use it for yourself if you want to.
It's not even finished yet, I just like to yap.
I do not take criticism, ja?
I like making Hal have a somewhat 'neutral' face, as in he can look quite feminine. This is because I always get a feel that, compared to other male characters, especially Bruce and Clark, who are often portrayed as bigger and sharper, Hal's portrayal by multiple artist can be less domineering than the others.
More often than not, I find him very cute when he has to frown to appear to be more serious, haha.
Also, I like the headcanon that he is more like his mom, whether he likes it or not, despite him trying so hard to follow his father's footsteps. And in my personal headcanon, his mother (and then, Hal) had a pair of eyes that were beautiful but also incredibly sad.
In my country, we believe those with beautiful but sad eyes tend to have a miserable life, because they cry a lot, so their eyes look like shiny pearls.
And I love making Hal receiving those eyes from his mother.
So in my depiction of him, his eyes are not that striking, and domineering. In their natural state, they almost look soft and warm. A little spacey, even. Eyes of a dreamers ("Mắt biếc").
Like this:
But the thing is, I also like NOT drawing in the light in his eyes.
I like it that way.
It's like he's dead tired of life hahaha. And that his smiles are not truthful. The smiles are an act. And if you crop out his mouth, you can see him not smiling at all, actually.
Also his eyebrows are a little on the softer side, not as thick or well-defined as the Bats. It gives the impression that he is more relaxed and funny.
Oh right, and the hair too. His hair is VERY fluffy, so it also adds another layer of softness to his overall appearance.
So more often than not, he draws people in with his friendly face. It's just incredibly pretty. It's the kind of face that you think is pretty from the get-go, but the more you look at him, the more you're addicted to his face.
A bright smile. Sad eyes. And the kind of softness that makes you think if you can have him, everything in your life will be fixed.
In conclusion, Hal's face is softer than Bruce, easier to look at, and has more wavy, round, and feminine features.
Bruce, on the other hand, has an incredibly striking eyes and eyebrows combo. They are almost too scary to look at.
He needs to wear sunglasses or actively soften his eyes for his Brucie persona.
He also has heavy eyebags, more crow-feet, more wrinkles, and of course, the outlines of his eyes are 'heavier' (idk how to describe this sh). Like you cannot look at him without being a little nervous.
Like this,
His face is very sharp. His hair is straight. His wrinkles stress-made, lowkey. He just looks domineering already even when he's zoning out in the kitchen making coffee.
Has to actively try to be less scary.
Both are very old-Hollywood looking, just in different fonts, hahaha.
