yellowjackets spoilers !!
thinking about how their greatest virtues killed them. a lot of this is speculation, but i'm nothing if not theorizer. the curtains are never blue for no reason.
laura lee died because of her faith; "this is my purpose." she died believing her ultimate purpose was death. that, or she died wondering if god was even real. how he could do that to her. maybe she thought about surviving the plane crash; she previously assumed it was an act of god, now she's wondering if it was a fluke. if god wanted her to die then, but for some reason she didn’t, so he had to send another plane crash. she let her devotion consume her.
javi died because of his kindness, trying to save natalie. he died without having that kindness returned. he begged for the help he'd offered her, and died wondering why she didn't return it. he genuinely couldn't wrap his head around not helping someone, especially when they're about to die. he knew saving her could've meant death, but he took that risk.
natalie died because of her sense of justice... hear me out on this one. she carried the weight of javi's death for years. the guilt and shame had been manifesting in her since it happened. she knew it wasn't fair. when she was presented with the opportunity to save someone's life, she knew she had to take it. "this is exactly where we belong." in a way, she took comfort in death—she finally felt it was even.
lottie died because of her charity; specifically as it relates to christianity, if you replace god with the wilderness. with "it." she felt the need to save callie, "spread the word," so to speak. "it" hindered her, time and time again, but in a sense, it grounded her. it gave her purpose. she used it to help people and to help herself cope amidst terrible trauma. I really believe that this delusion kept her alive out there. gave her something to live FOR. she died accepting her place in its cycle, and she died believing this was preventing another death somewhere. I truly believe that.
van died because of her kindness, too, in a different sort of way. she wanted to cure her cancer, but she couldn't bring herself to harm someone. if van was tied to the rails of the trolley problem, and could pull the lever to save herself, she wouldn't. she cannot take action to harm someone else. that ends up being her downfall.
mari dies because of her independence. she's fierce and self-reliant. she's often painted as a spoiled brat, despite proving time and time again that she's willing to step up. she's the primary cook, she saves van's life after the wolf attack, and she was decoy. "you've been here before. it could be different." but she trusts herself above all else and has taken care of herself alone the entire time. if anything, the advice drives her to keep going, right towards the pit, too busy watching her own back to notice what's right in front of her.
tai died wait tai didnt die why do I always think that? if she dies next season I die with her
how do I get rid of this?
I don't want a poll here
I, for one, am glad there's a pointless poll at the end of this post
filing a missing persons report for shauna and tai's friendship this season 💔
