I showed this tiktok to my grandma to make her laugh, but now she’s all excited and actually wants to make a chocolate potato cake. We’re gonna do it.
I’ll keep everyone posted.
It’s happening, folks!
Looks good, but we’re not done yet!
Our sweet, sweet child needs to cool before we add the finishing touches!
My creation is complete!
After dinner, we’ll give it a taste test!
I wonder how it’ll taste.
Oh…
My…
God.
It’s incredible!
This stupid cake, made with potatoes … is delicious! It’s so sweet, moist, and decadent, just like a brownie! And I don’t even like chocolate or potatoes!
The recipe from the tiktok was pretty much impossible to find. I looked high and low, but everyone posted recipes that I KNOW he didn’t use because the ingredients and methods were different. After some searching, my grandma and I came up with our own recipe.
For the Cake:
1 cup mashed potato
2 cups sour cream
1 ¾ cup flour
1 ¾ cup sugar
¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
½ cup softened butter
2 eggs
1 ½ tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
Pinch of salt
For the Drizzle:
4 oz semi-sweet chocolate
½ cup sugar
3 tbsp corn syrup
2 tbsp water
A lot of recipes called for a mixer or a processor, but my grandma and I wanted to make an every-man kind of recipe, since we know not everyone has those things. Plus they’re heavy and a pain to clean anyway, so bowls it is!
Instructions:
1. Peel and boil the potato, then mash it. Set aside to cool. Go to the bathroom, do your homework, then come back. That should be enough time.
2. Set oven to 350°F.
3. Cream butter. This means putting the sugar and butter into a bowl and mashing it together with a fork until it’s thoroughly mixed.
3. Put everything else in the same bowl, including the mashed potato. Mix and stir well. Work those muscles!
4. Grease a pan (doesn’t matter what kind you use) and spatula batter into pan. Even out if necessary.
5. Bake in oven for 40 minutes.
6. Test cake with pick. If nothing sticks, it’s finished. If batter does stick to pick, let it bake a bit longer but make sure it doesn’t burn. Remove and set aside to cool.
For the Drizzle:
1. Cut chocolate into tiny squares.
2. In a small pot, mix sugar, corn syrup, and water.
3. On medium heat, wait for mixture to sizzle and stir it. Do NOT let it boil.
4. Remove from element and add chocolate.
5. Wait for squares to melt, then mix.
6. Drizzle or pour over cake.
Enjoy!
I’m so glad there’s a recipe now, I really want to try this!
Hey here is a thing that happened. We went for a simple ganache for the glaze. Heated 1 cup of cream till hot then poured over 1 cup of semisweet and 1 cup of milk chocolate chips. Whisk untill melted and pour over your chocolate mash potato cake
Found the original recipe! (Apparently it was listed as a caramel potato cake in the original recipe book??? Anyway, now there’s two CPC recipes!)
Chocolate Potato Cake
½ cup butter 1 cup sugar 2 eggs ½ cup milk ½ cup hot riced potatoes [just pure potato, mashed, no milk or butter or pepper or salt or whatever, just pure mashed potato] 1 cup flour 2 tsp baking powder ½ tsp cinnamon ½ tsp clove ½ tsp nutmeg ½ cup grated chocolate ½ cup chopped nut meats [optional, never ever feel pressured to add nuts to your chocolate cake, our guy here didn’t!]
Just… put everything into the mixing bowl in that order, with lots of mixing in between each addition.
Into a greased and/or lined tin, and then into a moderate oven for 55 minutes (or until cooked).
Frosting
2 Tbs butter 1 cup sugar ¼ cup milk 1 square unsweetened chocolate ½ tsp vanilla [also optional, since again, not mentioned by our maker here!]
Boil, but be careful it doesn’t burn. …Basically? Stir constantly! (also, apparently the vanilla only gets added after the mix is taken off the heat…)
He did a long-form! He explained the steps!
is this how I learn that this legend has a youtube channel???
Youtube recommended video: can my hair handle a month without shampoo?
Me, who hasn’t used shampoo for 6 years: well golly gee, I dunno
IKR
What irritates me about these things - and those journalists who write articles on it going ‘Can I not wash my hair for a month?’ - is that almost all of them miss the point and none of them transition it properly, so they end up with a dirty and horrendously matted fleece and conclude that it’s just not possible, and like
I am now three years without shampoo. My hair, which I always wanted to grow super long my whole life but could never get past bra strap length without it snapping off, is now to my tail bone and thick and glossy. I no longer get scalp issues like dandruff. It curls almost without frizz. It’s great.
But I did have to transition it??! I didn’t just stop washing it Jesus Christ
Would either of you mind explaining how? I’ve tried before and I’ve tried looking it up, but the most useful things I’ve ever been able to find are along the lines of “replace your shampoo with this super awesome super expensive non-shampoo-thing” or something
Couple of reblogs/replies have asked, so I hope Elanor doesn’t mind me replying on this version!
Firstly, the following applies only to hair types 1-3. If you have coily/kinky hair, get advice from someone who knows type 4 hair, which I do not know that the same methods would work for (I have 2b, though it looks a little straighter as it’s weighed down by the thickness/length)
Secondly, I’m afraid you will need to buy something. Specifically a boar bristle/synthetic equivalent hairbrush (these can range from Very Expensive for all natural recognised brand to a tenner nylon version from Boots. I just bought a new one for £20 which is boar bristle and bamboo with some longer, stiffer nylon bristles. I recommend getting one with both kinds of bristles if your hair is thick). If you have type 2-3 hair, you will also need a means of detangling. A wide-toothed comb is ideal, preferably wood to reduce static
Brush your hair morning and evening with the bristle brush. This cleans out grime and redistributes oils along the length of your hair, and gradually reduce how often you wash your hair, going from (idr how often people shampoo? biweekly?) to weekly to every other week, a couple of months at a time. Your hair needs to learn it doesn’t have to produce as much sebum as it has been doing. You may find you still need to condition. You can do this with normal conditioner, hair masks, or coconut oil. There will be a bit of a process finding out what works best for your hair. Use the detangler before brushing
Honestly at this point the only time I deliberately get my hair wet is when I dye it, and I think it’s looking pretty good, don’t you? (And I’ve stopped getting split ends)
(ignore the frizz, we’re at 80% humidity here. If you still want it to smell nice rather than just of hair you can add in some non-alcohol-based perfume. Hair perfume is great and lasts ages because it evaporates slower that when on your skin. I like to just put a touch on my ends every few days)

Free Audiobooks and Ebooks on OVERDRIVE.
Free Graphic Novels (DC, Marvel, Image, etc), Music, TV shows, and music on HOOPLA.
Free music that you can KEEP on FREEGAL
You are PAYING for all this with your tax money - USE THEM. Most likely systems will have all 3 or 2 out of 3, so if you aren’t sure call your local library’s reference/information desk and how you can get set-up or started.
Hey, highkey from a library worker:
Overdrive has a new mobile app called LIBBY I find it easier to use. It’s the same content as Overdrive just better for mobile. Overdrive and Libby both let you send items to your kindle as well.
Can confirm Overdrive is amazing.
I work in the largest library system in my state (17 branches in total).
I use it not only for ebooks, but movies as well.
Other FREE resources to check with your library for are:
Freegal Music (download and keep music, including current music)
Hoopla Digital (borrow ebooks, e-audiobooks, e-graphic novels, stream movies)
Kanopy (stream movies; also available on Roku!)
Axis360 (usually hot or just released ebooks)
If you don’t have a library card…
GET ONE!
If someone says libraries are a thing of the past…
BOOP THEM IN THE NOSE WITH YOUR KINDLE!
Don’t discount libraries as “quiet” places.
THEY ARE ALIVE!!!
THEY ARE LOUD!!!
THEY ARE YOUR DOORWAYS TO KNOWLEDGE!!
Smash that mf reblog button if you stoically ignore all labelled washing instructions and everything your mama ever told you about laundry and just send those bastards hurgling around in an overfilled tub to meet either death or glory
Something I learned from a costume designer: if an item can be washed multiple ways the designer is only legally obligated to put one of the ways on the tag, but if there’s only one way to wash that item they have to put Only on the instructions
If the tag says “Dry Clean” it’s safe to machine wash but the designer thinks it looks better if you get it dry cleaned
But if it says “Dry Clean Only” you will destroy it if you wash it any other way
Reblogging for that last bit which this 37 yr old adult did not lnowy
“Dry clean only” does NOT mean you will destroy it washing it any other way! More like “the manufacturer doesn’t want to be held responsible if you throw it directly into the washer on hot and then the dryer and it gets ruined”.
Most “dry clean only” things will do fine if you put them in a mesh bag, wash on cold, and hang or lay flat to dry. Especially wool items. Sending a wool sweater to the dry cleaners is fucking ridiculous.
The exceptions are:
Things that should not be fully submerged in water in the first place (leather, straw, furs, most rugs, silks prone to water spots)
Has structure or decorative elements that may not survive being crumpled up and tossed around in a wet environment (suit jackets, fancy hats, heavy beadwork, large fancy dresses)
Not dye fast–colors will bleed
Very fragile (antique clothing, super fancy lace, etc)
Gustav Klimt Brought to Life by Photographer Inge Prader.
Austrian photographer Inge Prader recently recreated Gustav Klimt’s masterworks for Style Bible, a part of the Life Ball Charity Event in Vienna, Austria. A team of over 50 professionals worked on the demanding photography project which raises funds to help those with HIV/AIDS. Makeup artists, costume designers, set designers, lighting specialists and many others worked with models and fully ornamented props to bring to life the fascinating, erotically charged work that Klimt is known for during his “Golden Phase.”

My favorite weird Victorian-Era story is Black Tom (the Ship's Cat Who Was Maybe the Devil) and it will also be yours when I tell you about him
- Dr. Gordon Stables spent some time as a medic on the H.M.S. Tickler, a British gunboat, in the late 19th Century.
- One night, at about 11 o'clock, a pitch black "shadow" sprinted past his legs and scared the hell out of him. Gordon, having not seen this cat before, asked an old sailor what the shadowy creature was, and the sailor replied:
"That's the devil, sir."
- Gordon laughed this off. The sailor assured him that this cat WAS an evil entity, and that he had appeared on the ship in a flash of light during a recent storm. The doctor ignored this and went to bed.
- The next day, the captain, a very aggressive Scotsman, also wanted to know what this little FREAK was doing on his ship.
- When no one admitted to owning the cat or having brought him on board, the captain said "Okay. Fuck it. Let's just throw this guy overboard."
- And the cat IMMEDIATELY lost his mind. Stables described the cat's hissing and vocalizations as "highly mutinous and insubordinate." The cat dove below deck, and the entire crew followed, unable to catch him. The cat then climbed up the rigging, sailors desperately trying to match his speed. Stables wrote:
The chase now became general and most exciting; and with a cheer all hands joined, — evidently more for the fun of the thing, than with any intention of harming the cat.
- The crew eventually became exhausted, and summoned the nerve to ask the captain, "Sir, this is literally just a creature. Can we... can we stop doing this?" To which the captain responded "No, fuck that, bring me my gun."
- The cat dodged all of the bullets fired from the gun, and after meowing at the captain one more time, the captain decided "Aww, I guess the little guy's not so bad" and just... let him stay on the ship. They added him to the ship's log books and everything. He was their little guy now.
- The captain almost immediately fell in love with the cat, now named Black Tom, in the manner of a suburban dad who has insisted that he will not like a family's new pet cat.
- Everyone else was justifiably kind of freaked out by Tom. He was a spooky little guy, and when he ran from the ship when it docked into a port, many sailors breathed a sigh of relief.
- Until Tom returned several hours later, having beaten the shit out of a small dog for no reason.
- Tom just loved violence in general. Every Tuesday, when the captain flogged men who had broken orders, Tom would be his terrible little gremlin hype man. He would cuddle with the captain after the floggings were over.
- This reinforced belief among over half of the crew that Tom was an evil spirit or the Devil. They summarily gave him treats and morsels to win his dark favor, causing him to become a Plump, Powerful Beast with a hankering for rum poured into oatmeal. He was also great at snatching leaping fish out of the air, apparently.
- One day, the Tickler was chasing another ship, and the captain gave the order to fire the turret gun. The sailors refused.
“What’s the delay?” cried the captain.
“Cat in possession of gun, sir,” was the reply.
- Tom was sleeping in the gun. He was having #me time. Any attempts to remove him caused him to "spit and sputter, and make use of bad language." Finally, when they decided to light the fuse, Tom leapt out of the gun and onto the safety of the rigging, fluffed up and freaked out.
- The captain later tenderly caressed the animal, despite the trouble he had caused. Tom repaid him by getting into constant fights with another crewmate's pet monkey (which he won).
- Tom fell overboard one night. The captain, who saw the accident first, sent out a life-buoy for him immediately, but he was lost in the storm. The captain drank heavily. He tore out his hair. He wept.
- The next day, the life-buoy appeared. Tom, that bedraggled and wretched beast, was back on deck.
- The captain cared for him as a beloved pet until Tom actually disappeared one day near the journey's end. Gordon, ever-pragmatic, assumed that the cat had stumbled overboard and paddled into the distance, his feline fate unknown.
- I, personally, choose to believe the testimony of sailor Davis. He claims that Tom, his time with the mortal world done, vanished in a sheet of blue flame.
Thus ends the tale of Black Tom, the cat who might have been the devil (or just a devious little rascal who won a captain's heart).
Trying to draw buildings
yo here’s a useful tip from your fellow art ho cynellis… use google sketchup to create a model of the room/building/town you’re trying to draw… then take a screenshot & use it as a reference! It’s simple & fun!
Sketchup is incredibly helpful. I can’t recommend it enough.
There’s a 3D model warehouse where you can download all kinds of stuff so you don’t have to build everything from scratch.
reblog to save a life
This is an incomplete tutorial, and it drives me crazy every time I see it come around.
We live in a pretty great digital age and we have access to a ton of amazing tools that artists in past generations couldn’t even dream of, but a lot of people look at a cool trick and only learn half of the process of using it.
Here’s the missing part of this tutorial:
How do you populate your backgrounds?
Well, here’s the answer:
If the focus is the environment, you must show a person in relation to that environment.
The examples above are great because they show how to use the software itself, but each one just kind of “plops” the character in front of their finished product with no regard of the person’s relation to their environment.
How do you fix this?
Well, here’s the simplest solution:
This is a popular trick used by professional storyboard and comic artists alike when they’re quickly planning compositions. It’s simple and it requires you to do some planning before you sit down to crank out that polished, final version of your work, but it will be the difference between a background and an environment.
From Blacksad (artist: Juanjo Guarnido)
From Hellboy (Mike Mignola)
Even if your draftsmanship isn’t that great (like mine), people can be more immersed in the story you tell if you just make it feel like there is a world that exists completely separate from the one in which they currently reside – not just making a backdrop the characters stand in front of.
Your creations live in a unique world, and it is as much a character as any other member of the cast. Make it as believable as they are.
Great comments and tutorials!
I’m a 3d artist and have been exploring the possibilities of using 3d as reference for 2d poses. I want to add a couple of tips and things!
Sketchup is very useful for environment references, and I assume it’s reasonably easy to learn. If you’re interested in going above and beyond, I highly recommend learning a proper 3d modeling program to help with art, especially because you can very easily populate a scene or location with characters!
Using 3ds Max I can pretty quickly construct an environment for reference. But going beyond that, I can also pose a pretty simple ‘CAT’ armature (known in 3d as a rig) straight into the scene, which can be totally customized, from various limbs, tails, wings, whatever, to proportions, and also can be modeled onto and expanded upon (for an example, you could 3d sculpt a head reference for your character and then attach it to the CAT rig, so you have a reference for complex face angles!)
The armature can also be posed incredibly easily. I know programs exist for stuff like this - Manga Studio, Design Doll - but posing characters in these programs is always an exercise in frustration and very fiddly imo. A simple 3d rig is impossibly easy to pose.
By creating an environment and dropping my character rig into it, I have an excellent point of reference when it comes to drawing the scene!
Not only that, but I can also view the scene from whatever angle I could ever want or need, including the character and their pose/position relative to the environment.
We can even quickly and easily expand this scene to include more characters!
Proper 3d modeling software is immensely powerful, and if you wanted to, you could model a complex environment that occurs regularly in your comic or illustration work (say, a castle interior, or an outdoor forest environment) and populate the scene with as many perspective-grounded characters as you need!
reblogging to save a life
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look at this amazing addition! This is fantastic!
Not just poses, you can also do this with lighting. Playing with lights in Blender is pretty fun.
Another cool thing: http://www.makehumancommunity.org lets you generate a human model. Like a character creator in a game, but more flexible, and the result is ready to import into a 3d editor like Blender.
This was a lot shorter last time it appeared here. Reblogging for the updated tips and to save a life!

MOOCs are great.
his dad needs to release it 🤯
This is so wholesome
Update: he finally got the cat to the vet to see if she had a microchip
I was already on board with his sweet wholesome open-to-love-and-nurturing heart but I was fully unprepared for getting to that last tweet and seeing how off the hook HOT dude is
https://twitter.com/pariszarcilla?lang=en heres his twitter is here there is also additonal cat photos of his children.
CAT DAD IS BACK
aww, the kids grow up so fast. ;-;
HHHHHHHH I LOVE CAT DAD!
This is, by far, the single most adorable fucking thing I have ever seen.
update:
I love that he kept …. All of them.
I’ve reblogged the earlier part of this thread before, and the new stuff makes it even better.
This is the Tumblr equivalent of a warm hug on a cold day.
You’re welcome.
I remember this thread, but I never saw the grown-up pics ❤
@every-n-anything
All hail Catdad
I saw Catdad for the first time today, and my day instantly became exponentially better.
I’M CRYING!?
CATDAD HAS REVIVED MY WILL TO LIVE
I live for cat dad-
Cat dad has saved us all
CAT DAD!!
I had not seen the updates. I am so happy that the Cat Gods smiled upon this person and their new family :)
He’s got more recent pictures (and is also an INCREDIBLE artist), but this is the fam circa May 2020 :>
It’s been over a year? Where is cat dad? Where is he?
Fear not, CatDad is still happily with us:
Cat Dad 2022 pic.
It’s been far too long since I saw these guys. “Heartwarming” doesn’t begin to touch it. :)
Are there like… any other parents on Vulcan? Like are Sarek and Amanda single-handedly raising every single child they encounter? Every child who sets foot on the planet now belongs to them? Like they meet some other Vulcan’s kid and go “hello, I’m your parent now” and then just take off with them? Is that what happened?
Sarek at the mall: “Sir, madam, I do not know your name, but but I see your son/daughter seems unfulfilled by your bond, constraining his/her philosophical development. As our offspring’s relationship with us is demonstrably superior, would it not be logical for you to surrender custody?”
Other Vulcan: “Your reasoning is cogent and flawless. Live long and prosper, son/daughter. I shall use the funds that were to pay for your schooling to purchase many plush robes in which I will ponder existence more comfortably.”
Vulcan child: “An excellent plan. Thank you for begetting me.”
I know it’s been a while but the funniest part of this for me is still “Sarek at the mall”
This is honest to god the funniest thing I have ever seen in my entire life
