This is your reminder today that Irene Adler in the original Conan Doyle story is literally not a criminal. She never commits a crime.
Nor is she a seductress in any kind of negative or manipulative sense - she has a mutual relationship with a powerful man who then breaks up with her, and afterwards she keeps protection against him in the form of evidence that the relationship existed. She HAS blackmail material, she even waves it at him threateningly because he treated her like shit, but she never even uses it.
Irene Adler is not a thief, femme fatale, or blackmailer. She's just a cool lady that wants to be left alone.
@delphi-star You do recall correctly!! She does not give a shit about that man! She's happily married! She tipped him for being a witness at her wedding!
If your Sherlock Holmes adaptation has a character whose identifying qualities are that she is a seductive criminal in love with Holmes, you have created a character that is basically the literal opposite of Irene Adler and you should name her something else.
She's also -- and I cannot stress this enough -- from New Jersey. IMO this is the single most important detail missing from all the adaptations -- IRENE ADLER IS FROM NEW JERSEY.
Please just once in my life I would like to see this adapted faithfully it would be the funniest fucking thing ever.
And she's an opera singer, so you know that going through the nightmare hell gauntlet that is working in the performing arts has made her unwilling to take any shit
I know that opera singers still exist in modern times but the next time someone takes a crack at a modern-set Sherlock show I think it would be cool and kinda evocatively-thematic (especially with what some people are saying in the comments with historical context meaning some people would assume Irene was also a sex worker from her being an opera singer) if if the character herself wasn't some kind of pop star in a modern version at least she was played by one of the pop stars who's acted in the past (if they wouldn't need to be able to actually sing opera for the episode of the hypothetical show, someone like Ariana Grande or Sabrina Carpenter would come to mind especially considering some of their controversies (though even if they stay true to not doing a romance thing, someone like the latter might also imply a younger Holmes)) and that would also incentivize the creators of this hypothetical show to not make Irene a recurring character because they couldn't afford getting that same A-lister to keep playing her (like how Steven Universe uses Sugilite going berserk as the Watsonian reason she didn't show up again to hide the Doylist reason of Sugilite being voiced by Nicki Minaj)
Can someone explain
Some songs can make me imagine what perfume or aftershave they are
Some songs have such a mood it effects more than ears hear
These remind me of this drawing by Franz Kafka from the 1900s. We've been feeling this way for a long time.
prev, i'm sure you mean my guy Leonid Pasternak
i love making friends in fandom, i love playing with our toys together, i love coming up with increasingly niche aus, i love lifting strangers up, i love motivating people to create, i love watching someone get excited over an idea and immediately running with it, i love yelling in tags together, i love seeing someone gain confidence in their writing/art because people were kind to them <33
the thing about art is that sometimes you'll be moved to tears by stuff that is not very good

He survived glaze firing, the wick and oil reserve work perfectly as intended, and now he remains in chains, offering light.
Sure! The rock is hollow and covers a small container of oil. There's a hole bored through his hand, leg, ass, and the rock with a wick that dangles into the oil container and feeds fuel into the flame. The wick is in a little glass tube to help regulate burn.
this is actually my favorite notification on this post because genuinely do you know how hard it is to sculpt a butt that is like. proportional but also if it's too flat you can tell that there's major muscles missing under the skin but also it needs to not be too caked or it gets weird, and it is actually a major anatomical landmark and if you mess it up the whole legs are off.
so yeah. his ass. it's barely even visible but im proud of it.

"im not saying feminism is for everyone but-" the fuck? well im saying that. feminism is for everyone. yes even cishet men will benefit from feminism and cishet men should be feminists because cishet men are indeed harmed by the patriarchy; nowhere near to the extent that women are, but having a culture that is fully equal and anti-misogynist benefits everyone. have we forgotten that lifting up the disenfranchised people in society helps all of us as a collective? "im not saying that universal and unalienable human rights are for everyone but-" YES THE FUCK THEY ARE LOL
