“Do you see me as cattle to milk whenever you grow thirsty” was really something
mother please how will we survive the winter
I think when anyone is trying to write a child, start from here because this is EXACTLY how I remember feeling as a child.
I have raised SEAGULLS
one of the most enlightening realizations ive had was finding out that non-24 hour circadian rhythm people were a pretty large group and most of us have oddly similar cycles of usually around 28hr internal "days" and this masquerades as "insomnia" but if allowed to sleep and wake naturally we will just advance forward through time an extra 2-4 hours a day at a relatively stable pace. we can't go to school or jobs or even run errands on normal schedules without massive pharmacological and behavioral intervention. most of the people who have been diagnosed or figured it out themselves will report horrific, life-ruining disruption in their professional lives and terrible health from accrued lack of sleep. this disorder is most common in vision-impaired people which seems to suggest it's related to light cues. anyway just thinking about this as extremely loud yard work woke me up at 8am for the second day in a row
lot of people reblogging this identifying themselves in it so i wanted to give you a link to a more detailed desription of Non-24-Hour Sleep-Wake Disorder, and mention theres a similar disorder called Delayed Sleep Phase disorder where you are on a regular 24 hour cycle but you naturally get sleepy around 3-4am every day and wake up around 10am-12pm (roughly). as far as i can tell, despite the widespread nature of both these disorders, its basically impossible to get diagnosed bvecause sleep medicine is probably the single most useless specialty and if you dont have sleep apnea they dont want to hear about it.
this got 14k because Tumblr is absolutely a self-selected population of people with the worst sleep disorders you can possibly imagine
And then I GOT sleep apnea & afib.
The lore, about Eliot, in the cooking world has to be one of those urban myths that nobody truly believes… but everybody loves to hear.
Until, one day, a long haired chef graces your kitchen. He’s serious about his food, respecting the craft and the employees, but also, could end a guy with a spork.
That’s when you realize that the man is bigger than the legend.
It’s a very distinctive weapon
Saying "voting doesn't matter" might reach your younger peers online but it certainly hasn't reached Clangus Hargbarg who was part of the kkk in 1951 and still sends in his ballot. He hasn't missed a one.
There’s more of us than them but if you don’t show up?
Trump will take away our rights and give Israel everything it needs to annihilate Gaza.
Just a heads up.
You guys are the fearmongering dunces
Trump Heights - Wikipedia
NPR's Mary Louise Kelly talks with Time national politics reporter Eric Cortellessa about his interview with Donald Trump about 2025 and wha
"I can see myself using the National Guard and, if necessary, I'd have to go a step further."
Former President Donald Trump is accusing President Biden of siding with Hamas terrorists by pausing the delivery of bombs to Israel.
I mean… I am literally just repeating things Trump said?
And it took me all of 2 minutes to get these sources all of which are verified through the Associated Press.
But okay 👍 Fearmongering - which is, to you, the same thing as responding to things that the former president and current Republican presidential candidate has done and said he wants to do which have been verified by multiple sources.
Gotcha.
reblog this if you want a LONG (or short) anonymous message saying what they think of you.
pleaaase?
Bullshit. My high school valedictorian /student body president wasn’t allowed to speak at graduation because he led anti war protests.
whoever picks up spn for season 16, i beg you if you do market research, this time please choose the right market you are researching. it ain't the rednecks that are keeping spn in the top 5 most streamed shows 3 years after it ended. it's the gays.
Listen if the study of ancient humans doesn’t make you at least a little bit emotional idk what to say.
I started crying today at the museum because they had reconstructed the shoes of Otzi the iceman.
Either he or someone he knew who cared about him made these shoes out of grass and bear skin and twine and he was wearing them when he died over five thousand years ago.
And a Czech researcher and his students did reconstructions of these shoes and wore them to the same place where he died to test them out and they were like yep! These shoes are really cozy and comfy and didn’t give us blisters while hiking!
Is that not just the coolest shit ever????
(Quietly, with love) We will remember your bread, we will remember your dog, we will remember your shoes
(Quietly, with anger) We will remember your copper
One of the things I love about Leverage is their commitment to continuity, especially when it comes to the characters’ relationships with each other.
Like for example, I just watched the Underground Job and at one point Hardison tries to get Eliot to high five him, which pisses Eliot off (because of course it does) until Hardison says it’s “for morale”, which is a callback to a bit Eliot did a few episodes earlier. And the camera specifically follows Eliot so we see his reaction change from grumpy and annoyed to “oh haha I see what you did there”
And we see it totally go over Nate’s head because he wasn’t there! It’s an inside joke! Because sure, they bicker all the time, but they’re still friends!
There’s other examples too that have more to do with the job. Like Hardison will mention the security system they’re up against is the same one developed by one of the bad guys from last season. Or Parker will bring up a diamond she stole that we last saw 15 episodes and promptly forgot about - because of course she still has it, why wouldn’t she? Idk, I feel like a lot of shows, especially villain-of-the-week style shows, often just ignore continuity because…they can. And they assume the average viewer won’t notice/care. But *I* notice. I just really appreciate the level of detail and care Leverage has for the characters and the audience
I finished that destiel animatic i was talking about!

unsung benefit i think a lot of ppl are sleeping on with using the public library is that i think its a great replacement for the dopamine hit some ppl get from online shopping. it kind of fills that niche of reserving something that you then get to anticipate the arrival of and enjoy when it arrives, but without like, the waste and the money.
bonus it ALSO fills that dopamine hit of in-person shopping. “oh I didn’t go in looking for this but hmm, I’m tempted… I can’t resist… oh ho ho I have made some irresponsible decisions at the library today [carrying my stack of ten random books]” and then it doesn’t even matter if you don’t like them because a) free b) you’re gonna give them back anyway
Librarian here! Please please please please PLEASE do this! We don’t have any way to know if you read them, and we don’t care! We’re happy to see those books go out because that helps our stats. And that affects how much money we can get.
So grab that silly paperback romance, and maybe this new YA fantasy, oh and check for the new movies too! And don’t forget to check Libby and hoopla for music and ebooks and e-audio.
#i love that on the check out reciepts for my library it also says how much the books would have cost to buy#because there are days where ive checked out so much it would have been $100-$200#so i really get that big purchase feeling and didnt spend anything via @mossiestpiglet
Yes!!! And you can ask the librarians to look up how much you've saved since signing up! Since I moved to Florida in 2016, I've saved something like $1300 by using our library system for books and dvds!
I thought I was late to my appointment at the ADHD clinic but the ADHD clinic knows their clients well and the appointment reminded me to be here at 1:30 when my appointment was actually at 2:00.
Me: oh good I'm actually on time! :)
Me, realizing why and being overcome by the mortifying ordeal of being known: >:/
In a startling turn of events that nobody could have foreseen, my doctor, who also has ADHD, was late because he thought my appointment was at 2:30.
What's so fascinating about Toranaga's plan to employ Mariko as Crimson Sky is that it was all there right from the beginning.
When Toranaga first arrives in Osaka the regents demand that he release Ochiba, the mother of the Heir, from where she is being held in Edo. Nothing scares Toranaga quite like Ochiba (no doubt why he held her in the first place), and he knows that once she is able to return to Osaka, she's going to do everything she can to destroy him.
Enter Mariko.
Mariko is perfectly placed: she shares a history with Ochiba, a girlhood bond that grew distant due to time and circumstance, but she is completely loyal to Toranaga, willing, in fact, to die for him and his cause. If the time comes for him to have to negotiate with Ochiba — or he has some need to soften her desire for vengeance — Mariko will serve as the crucial middle ground.
Once he realizes Ochiba will soon be free to move against him, Toranaga summons Mariko, requesting that she serve as a translator to the foreign barbarian. But even more important than her role as a translator, Toranaga wants to bring her closer and cement her place in his inner circle of followers. (As a woman, she is easily overlooked, not being a general or a vassal with an army of retainers, but her importance might be even more vital.) He reminds her of his great admiration for her father and acknowledges that for many years she has been robbed of her purpose. What if he could give it back to her? Like Mariko, we assume that her purpose is to serve as a translator, but Toranaga knows it is far larger: to play her part against the regents and serve as a bridge to Ochiba, when the time comes.
Toranaga is a falconer. He knows the value of caring for a bird, feeding it by hand, having it learn to trust you until it sees you as its only master. And as Toranaga describes his falcon, Lady of Steel, he could also be describing his plan for Mariko: “Conceals herself against the sun. Conserving energy, waiting for her moment.”
