Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
This opens up a lot of possibilities for what a haiku can be
i think it is important to recognize the ways in which your favorite thing sucks. i think it keeps u normal

I mean, in some very interesting Technically Correct ways, they didn't actually die? Now, they're very much no longer alive. But the forces involved are such that they didn't get any of the usual cellular processes of death, they simply went from biology to physics in less time than it takes a signal to travel down your optic nerve.
"they went from biology to physics" is an AMAZING turn of phrase
i love declining birth rates 🥰 "what a horrible problem! society will collapse!" oopsie it looks like you're gonna have to make having children worth it 😊 teehee you're gonna have to improve society in order to fix this problem, or it will all collapse. oh noooooo. how horrible. :3c

I think the best way Grace and Stratt's views on the whole project can be described as is simply this:
Grace liked earth. He liked his students. He liked his work. But he didn't love it. He loved living. He didn't love the individual things, but he sure as hell loved living with them.
Stratt on the other hand, she likes living. But she loves earth. She loves the world. The people. She loves it. And that's why her actions have so much meaning behind it.
I think that Grace loves humans and Stratt loves humanity. Grace was motivated to enter the project out of love for his students. And even his sacrifice in the end of the book was motivated by his love for Rocky. He can't be motivated by his love for earth and human survival in the abstract non-tangible sense.
Stratt on the other hand has trouble connecting with individual humans. She isn't cruel but she isn't particularly warm. What she loves is Humanity with a capital H and she would give everything to save it

I THOUGHT AFTER FOUR YEARS YOU PEOPLE WOULD LET THIS DIE AND YET AGAIN I OPEN THIS CURSED APP TO FIND MORE NOTES ON THIS POST
does anyone know if being kept in a state of constant anxiety and insecurity for 25 years is bad for you??
According to psychology: yes
It's absolutely crazy that intellectual labor can wipe you out. It seems like it shouldn't be a thing, like your stores of brain juice shouldn't be able to be depleted in that way.
I feel like a wizard that's out of spell slots, and to me that's a hackish mechanical limitation put in place to try to balance the classes.
#it's fucked and it's bad design #i should be able to write and edit for 20 hours a day #i'm just sitting there how are we even using energy #feels made up (via @softest-punk, emphasis mine)
Your brain is an incredibly energy-intensive organ. It makes up approximately 2% of your total body mass, but at rest it's using 22% of your total energy intake. The only thing that uses the same percentage of energy is all of your skeletal muscle (which is about 40% of your total body mass), with the liver (about 2.6% of your total mass) close behind at 21% (Aragon et al, 2017).
And that's how much energy it's using at rest.
That's the baseline.
So if you're doing lots of intellectual labour, your brain - which already has disproportionately huge energy demand - is going to use even more energy to keep up with the work. That's why you feel so wiped/drained/like you're out of spell slots after high intellectual demand - because your brain is an organ, and you've just done a lot of high-energy work with a high-energy organ.
Feed your brain.

hey there welcome to superpower school, where we teach you to use your dangerous superpowers in a school-like environment. here's your syllabus. as you can see, this class will consistent entirely of occasional world building lectures of no use to anyone who has actually lived in this world for more than a day, and unsupervised practical assignments that place your life and the lives of everyone near you at risk. also we have a tournament arc in around 50 chapters that will inevitably be rife with cheating and will be infiltrated by people who actually for real want to kill you. grading will be on a curve.
