Jason: There’s precedent for gravestones being reclassified as cenotaphs if the body is later removed and reinterred elsewhere. There’s no rule that says the body itself can’t do the removing.

Dick: And naturally our greatest concern is avoiding semantic ambiguity.

Jason: Semantic ambiguity is how they get you.

Consider: Tommy running into Buck+Theo+Eddie staged as a callback to Buck seeing Abby again and finding out she's engaged (not necessarily the whole rescue element but just the way Abby didn't want to settle down only to come back having clearly settles down fast with someone else, Tommy was convinced Buck didn't know what he wants but oh look Buck does when it's coming from someone else). Played right it could even have the sense of a karmic domino effect for Tommy leading Abby on.

When I say I want a reverse-tsunami with Eddie and Theo, I don't actually mean I want a tsunami, I want an emergency where Eddie and Theo are together and Eddie has to protect him alone while Buck is not there.

The emergency can be anything.

the thing about eddie and religion and I've been trying to believe is that I don't mind him going back to religion but it just does not feel like that is what he actually wants and I don't like, know if the writers are aware of that. because I can appreciate eddie finding a connection to bobby and abuela through religion but what we actually have in canon is eddie not quite being able to believe and abuela telling him that he shouldn't be looking for faith in a church, eddie finding peace by sharing mourning with chris specifically culturally and not in a religious ceremony, eddie saving a girl that reminds him of himself from being trapped by religion, eddie praying and immediately getting stabbed. like eddie have you considered alternative means of belief, because right now the closest you're getting to a breakthrough is god exists but hates you specifically.

I think the real weakness of DD and SoJ is the big final case twists are final case twists/reveals rather than being the climax of a full game story that come to fruition in the final case.

In AA1 DL-6 was introduced in case 2 via Maya's family and Mia's motives as a lawyer, so as well as the internal twists and Edgeworth's characters arc 1-4 serves to provide some answers to those questions.

In JFA the magatama is introduced in case 2 then subverted in finale, serving as a thematic payoff.

In TT we finally learn more about Maya's mother, resolving a mystery set up in 1-2, and Dahlia is involved 3/5 cases, so the finale is the conclusion to years of Fay family drama we have been invested in.

Both the Investigations games have an overarching mystery/conspiracy (1 has the clear throughline of who broke into Edgeworth's office and why, 2 is less apparent in the early cases but multiple individuals from those cases come back and have their earlier actions relevant in the climax).

GAAC was clearly written as a 2 game storyline and multiple elements set up in game 1 don't pay off until part 2.

AA4 the final case is where we learn how Phoenix came to be disbarred and adopt Trucy, a question established in the first case of the game.

But as much as I love the phantom twist and the Blackquill reveals in DD there's really little set up, we know that Blackquill is in prison for something but it is only retroactively that we have a reason to care. You could play case 4/5 in isolation and get the same experience, same with case 5 of SoJ. They aren't bad cases but they don't deliver a payoff the whole game in the same way.

the stab wound was there. it didnt change anything. it didn’t kill him. it didn’t cause him to have any kind of life-altering realizations. it literally had no bearing on the plot whatsoever. but it still matters that the stab wound was there

tbh the whole elevator door opening to reveal Eddie who has been bleeding out for an unknown length of time but is somehow okay and whose absence didn’t really have any large impact on the rest of the plot except to those of us who love Eddie (and given this doesn’t seem to have had a big impact on Eddie himself it kinda is in line with the whole “Eddie doesn’t love himself as much as he should” of it all) is pretty representative of how this show often treats Eddie

like. Eddie was there. it didn’t change anything (to the plot). but it matters (to us) that he was there.

Seriously though, if Buck adopts this pre-schooler, who is gonna watch that kid while he is at work? All the other characters with kids have partners and/or local extended family to help out, most professional childcare providers are not set up to work with the kind of shift pattern a firefighter must have. Is Buck going part time? Has Maddie (with a toddler and baby of her own!) offered unlimited babysitting 🤨 ? Because right now it seems like the basic practically of 'a child is not a toy you can just put in a cupboard when you aren't playing with it' does not seem to have occured to anyone involved in the show.

I want to see Shane go full villain era. Like I feel like him getting signed to Ottowa, where Ilya is captain and has already established a life and relationships that Shane will slot into and the culture is accommodating and the one notoriously bigoted bully has been reformed and come out and is accepted & accepting now, is a plot development that I totally get why it could appeal to some people as a fantasy of going somewhere all the problems are already solved for you without you having to act, but for me it lands more as smothering Shane's reaction to any of his own experiences. It's a case of Montreal was shitty but we're gonna just remove you from that situation and your boyfriend has made a nice safe but constricting box for you where we can just ignore the fact the problem is still out there you can just play niceys with us and we'll pretend your bad experiences never happened.

I would fucking feast on an AU where for some reason the Ottowa trade doesn't work out and Shane is instead left either with the mess of Montreal and settling on if you wanna burn me for my percieved betrayal well i'm burning the house down with me, or traded somewhere distant and now he's not rookie prodigy Shane thankful to his drafting team he's a three time cup winning hockey icon and he's here to be a stone cold winner and they can keep up or shut up.

Still not watching 9-1-1 but from what I've picked up from my dash: Connor and Kameron blame Buck's genes for the fact their toddler is challenging? a) has someone explained how toddlers work to them, b) those two were such messy bitches, Connor was like hey I want sperm from this guy I claim to really like and respect but also haven't stayed in touch with for years and then I'm going to freak out about my wife's pregnancy and bail on her for an extended period and Kameron went along with all that and also invited her heavily pregnant self to move into Buck's apartment because she apparently had no friends of her own, so if the kid is hard work frankly I think we need to consider that nurture has something to do with it

I stepped away from 911 bc i wasn't having fun anymore but also wdym it's on a break again with just 2 episodes left in the season??? If I were still watching I'd be getting pissed with it for that reason alone.

I have only watched the HR show and I liked Hayden in that and thought he was a nice if humanly imperfect friend for Shane, but I've seen a lot of posts about how he and JJ suck in the books and are bad friends so now I have to hope the show adapts away from that bc I cannot with the trope of "all your supposed 'friends' are actually selfish traitors and your lover is the only person who gets you or cares about you" like it is bad enough that the series seems to be setting Shane and Ilya up so that the only way the relationship can succeed is if they both uproot themselves choose it over their careers and everything they currently have going on in their lives. I want love to be a part of their lives not something they get at the expense of everything else, to me that is not a happy ending.
