in the elder scrolls v: skyrim, void salts can be obtained from storm atronachs to be used for potions, forging weapons, smithing, and enchanting armor.

instructions:

begin during the day and hour of saturn and in the presence of a new or dark moon

combine and grind down the salt if you want a more powdery consistency, or leave it as is - add it to your bowl (solid black lava salt looks a bit more like void salts but you do you)

place the amethyst and quartz in the bowl of salt

focus on the intent of crafting these void salts to manifest the intentions listed above as you cast the spell (visual witches, now would be a good time to envision a black, yet somehow glowing, orb of light surrounding the bowl)

whenever you're ready, close out the spell however you wish

allow to sit overnight in the darkness of the new moon - bonus points if there's a thunderstorm going on!

when ready, remove the crystals and add your void salts to a small jar for ease of use

safely tuck the crystals away to be used again for this particular method of enchantment

some ideas:

add a pinch of void salt to each corner of your home for protection during bad weather

add to spell jars and sachets

place inside of a poppet for sympathetic magic - baneful or benefic (imagine programming it for either cursing OR improving someone else's magical abilities, for example)

add to storm water for an extra boost

Trickster Halloween (Aug. 31st)

Long story short, I'm celebrating a variant of Halloween on the 31st of every month that has a 31st.

Neewollah Inspiration

Right, so off the bat, I do not care for Lammas or Lughnasadh. No hate, but no resonance.

There is, however, a Roman festival in August called Portunalia that honors Portunus, a two-faced counterpart of Janus, both gods of doors and portals, both symbolized by keys. Portunalia is celebrated by throwing keys in a fire while being very sad and upset.

Simultaneously, I have always been fascinated by Lying Contests and ritual obfuscation, and Portunas is literally two-faced (yes, i'm applying modernity to classicity, it's a choice), and we got ourselves a theme.

Neewollah Rituals, Rites, & Traditions

The Two Faced Mask

For Neewollah, and possibly workings of similar nature going forward, I'm going to want to create a mask that gives me two faces. Ideally, I would like this to be a permanent tool/icon/idol in its own right, but for now I'll be making temps.

The plan for the moment is the classic comedy/tragedy dichotomy, but when I create the permanent idol, I'll probably dive deeper into warring duality.

The purpose of the Duality Mask is to take on a trickster guise, saying one thing to manifest the opposite on the principle of, "anything that can go wrong, will." Essentially, I'm going to feint in one direction, then run like hell for the thing I actually desire.

The Seven Trickster Keys

To manifest my desires, I'm going to create Seven Trickster Keys. One for each of the seven major senses: sight, sound, taste, touch, smell, movement, and self.

The Keys are meant to be destroyed, and will be made specifically from paper. In the future, I may go for really ornate ones, but simplicity is also fine.

However they're made, I'm going to write on one side of each key a good thing for that sense I want to call, and on the opposite a bad thing to banish.

Burning The Keys

My goal is to hit a liminal time, sundown or midnight. I will, one at a time in the above listed order, burn the keys. As I burn them, I will loudly talk about what a shame it is to lose the thing I want to banish. Just, making a big deal of it going away. Big show. Lay it on with a trowel.

No mention of the good stuff yet.

Once they're all burned, I'm going to begin talking about the things I do want, but in the same terms.

"Gee, how am I going to handle all this financial success, however will I cope with finding true love, how even can I stand having stability, gosh that new car is gonna be really a big responsibility," and so on.

As I do, I'm going to take a bit of the ash and tap it on the forehead of the mask to capture the knowledge of how to gain what I desire, the backs of my hands to grasp it, and the tops of my feet to set me walking the path to my goals.

Once I have very thoroughly assured the universe that the best way to screw with me is to give me those good things and steal away the bad things, I'll gather the ash for future use in ritual, unmask, and either dispose of the temp, or when I have a permanent duality mask, return it to its place.

The Backhand Bowl

Wouldn't be a Halloween without candy, but Neewollah is not about just having things. I've checked and I'm definitely on my own for the Keys unless my twin joins in (obfuscation rituals being uncomfy for my partner), so the Backhand Bowl may also be me on my own unless one or both choose to partake in this part.

Either way, the idea is that to take a candy, you must ask to take a candy and be told no...while the person telling you no gives you the candy. This is actually a joke in my circle, of dramatically refusing a request while performing it, so I'm not fussed about this one.

But assuming solo practice, in my case I will likely just announce that I don't want a piece of candy while I eat that tasty lie candy.

Food, Drink, & Celebrating

Neewollah is largely about the Trickster Keys, so there's nothing I have planned for ritual feasts or drink at this time. First year, first time, so I may develop traditional Neewollah foods later.

I do have the idea that, if I find myself in a place to celebrate with others, I'll probs see about games like Two Truths & A Lie, Never Have I Ever, or a Lying Contest.

Obviously, though, I may still have like, pizza and a couple drinks, it's a Halloween, after all.

📚Dorm Room Witch Tips📦

While you’re getting ready to move into your dorm room, keep these tips in mind to help create a witchy experience for you in the dorm.

📦 Take a small box with you. Fill it with your tools and keep it under the bed or on your desk. It conceals it from others’ eyes (you can also have it open if you’re open with your craft) while it’s near you and it helps to keep things organized and out of the way. 📦 Bring a blanket, rug, towel, or tapestry with you. You can keep these things folded under your bed and then lay them out when you feel like meditating or praying. You can also use these for your work space if your desk doesn’t have enough room to work with. 📦 Change your alarm clock noise to sound like a bell if it’s possible. Each time it goes off, it will cleanse the room. 📦 Use an essential oil diffuser as a substitute to incense or candle smoke. A cheap way to diffuse oils is to pour the essential oil of your choice on some Himalayan pink salt. This will also cover up any gross smells from the cafeteria or other peoples’ microwaves. 📦 If you have a window, keep crystals on the windowsill (unless they fade in sunlight). This keeps them off your desk and it also looks really pretty! 📦 You can also make a mobile with your crystals as long as they aren’t too big. You can hang this anywhere in your room and it won’t take up a lot of space. 📦 Use fake candles or fire salt instead of real candles. Most dorms don’t allow open flames, so do not risk getting caught for a spell. Use a substitute instead, which can be fake candles, fire salt, chili pepper, or any other symbol of the element.  📦 Enchant, like, everything. If you can find a purpose for an object, enchant it. Want to enchant your desk chair to be more comfortable? Do it. Want to enchant your desk to help you get your homework done? Do it. Want to enchant your clothes to keep attention away from you? Go ahead. Make life easier with some enchantments! 📦 Bring a chalkboard or a dry erase board. It doesn’t have to be huge, but these can be really handy, especially if you use them for sigils. You can draw whatever sigils on them whenever you like and erase those you don’t want to have around anymore. Simply charge them (perhaps with an enchanted marker) after you draw them! 📦 Bring something to motivate or reconnect you with witchcraft. During school, we may fall out of practice. School gets busy and tough, so don’t feel down about not being able to practice 24/7, but definitely bring something to motivate you for those days when you are free and could be practicing, but you don’t because you may be feeling disconnected or something. It could be a poster, crystal, sachet, or a charm. Have it where you can see and touch it- it could be above your bed, on your desk, wherever. Use it to help you practice again.

interpreting Boethiah and the daedra

i'm mostly basing this on my understanding of lore from playing skyrim and a little bit of morrowind, oblivion and eso. if anything i say is inaccurate, feel free to correct me.

as i've been going through sources and building my worship of the aedra and daedra in the last few days i've noticed something. the way that especially the daedra are presented in the lore feels extremely one-sided. that is not to say this is true for every single piece of lore, as i have definitely not gone through all of them but the daedra are very often just seen as the "evil" gods, especially in the later games, making it hard to build any kind of "not evil" worship.

i can see this as a kind of storytelling choice made for the games and other related media but what i seem to very strongly miss is the interpretations of deities from their worshippers and more neutral or even positive points of view. the majority opinion within the games seems to be of the daedra as purely evil and even in doing the daedric quests, i'm particularly thinking of skyrim here, the player is constantly reminded of this perceived "evil" and the tasks given by the daedra often include murder, deception and other unsavoury acts.

for example, on the unofficial elder scrolls pages site, Boethiah is described as presiding over "deceit, conspiracy, secret plots of murder, assassination, treason, and unlawful overthrow of authority" (introduction, link). at face value, this seems like a deity concerned with a lot of things harmful both to an individual worshipper and their society. practically, maybe this deity would be invoked in specific situations where those domains are relevant, but would not be appropriate for regular or daily worship. though we do know that at least the ashlanders, and the dunmer more generally did worship them regularly, together with the other "good daedra" Mephala and Azura.

so, how can we interpret the daedra, and here Boethiah specifically as an example, to be more reflective of such a regular worship? well, first we need to let go of the "evil god" label. while many daedra may be associated with outright evil domains and acts, we are basically engaging with TES lore as mythology here and thus can view them as just that - myths, stories designed to share a deity's domain and/or personality, and can contain the storyteller's personal opinions and biases. i'm drawing on my understanding of the norse deity Loki and how he is often framed as "the norse devil" by the christian author of the prose edda, and the work i personally did in finding a differing interpretation of Loki besides "the guy who i basically responsible for the end of the world".

anyways, so how else could we see Boethiah? well, from the list i shared earlier from the UESP Wiki it seems that Boethiah could be broadly associated with politics, violence and upheaval. in the current political climate which is, generally speaking, tense and volatile, Boethiah could be a deity associated with resistance to the status quo, with bringing about a new, better world. this could also be on a smaller scale, Boethiah could be associated with rebellion against authority and those in power who use it against the less fortunate, or in personal relationships, dealing with someone who is restrictive or oppressive. more individually, i've seen others associate Boethiah with becoming the best version of yourself and rising above your hardships. really, the theme seems to be fighting some adversary, often bigger than you and coming out on top.

of course, in interactions with the deity people can come to many differing and individualised interpretations. i think this kind of re-interpretation is even more important when approaching the daedra that are not labeled "good", and who may seem as presiding over a lot of bad stuff, though who many people can find value in worshipping. anyways i thought it necessary to point out the bad rep that a lot of the daedra have and how we can engage with them and interpret them differently from the text of the games, letting go of a lot of the stigma that is found around daedra worship.

🎃Wheel of Halloween🎃

There's a post of a tweet saying that every 31st of the month should be a Halloween, and you know what? I'm a Halloween Witch. I'm an Idolater. I'm an urban techno witch who lives an air conditioned life, can't stand nature bigger than a park or local landscaping, and hates leaving the city except to drive to another damn city.

I have been struggling to connect to the Wheel of the Year or the Solstices/Equinoxes for freaking years.

But a cycle of Halloweens?

That.

That I can fucking do.

So, without further ado, I present the shit I will be actually celebrating. Ya don't have to join me, but I will be posting about it for those that wanna follow along, with options and cutouts for those who don't want to or can't do the more party elements.

With luck, I'll pick up on August 31st and go from there, if not, I'll start with actual Halloween.

Halloween

It's muthafucking Halloween. I have ideas and will post about them more as we get closer, but you know what this one is.

New Year's Eve

December 31st

This one actually also exists, but I have plans for tying it to the January 31st one to bookend the year. The primary purpose of this Eve is gratitude and sharing the good things from the year before, casting off the trappings of the old year, and to bring the new one in with luck and prosperity.

Candle's Eve

January 31st

One month from the casting out of the old year, it's time to set things for the new. Cleansing and cleaning, setting intentions (not resolutions) for the year to come, making the Mask of the Year to call on who I aspire to be, burning the intentions set last year with last years candle, and blessing a candle to burn this years intentions next year are all features. Food and drink suggestions available when I actually post this up.

Hallow Ides

March 31st

Couple of these have fun names, and this is one of them. It's a party holiday, involving a picnic and a special cake/cupcakes/muffins.

The costume element is that I'll swap clothes or looks with someone I'm celebrating with (or dress up as someone else if celebrating solo).

There's a drinking element (non-alcoholic is fine) that results in a stack o' good luck charms.

And for my trick, I can and will sing the filthiest songs, tell the dirtiest jokes, read a romance novel or erotica, just go ham on the bawdy shit.

Alternatives for ace and non-sexing folk will be forthcoming in the relevant post, but it's my damn Wheel and I'm doing bawdy shit for myself.

Blessed Eve

May 31st

Not a bonfire person, but I'm definitely gonna have a cookout and grill up some burgers! Also a neat drink and cookies that both double as offerings!

Flower masks and crowns are involved to hide from the spring spirits that might fux me upa.

There's a Blessing Bouquet that goes up early, is used to exorcise and re-bless my property/house, and then is ceremonially burned.

An ash blessing to seal the prosperity into my house ties the whole thing off.

Fortune's Eve

July 31st

This one pretty heavily revolves around a ritual game of betting and chance that I came up with based on a cool concept tied into the holiday I'm aiming at. Game generates lucky candy and a good luck charm.

Hella apples involved including a ceremonial apple and cider. Veils worn for the blindness of luck, and a strong theme of having a game day.

I'm actually pretty stoked for this one, and will do a more expansive post on it later this week. I really hope I can pull this together in time this year.

Idea is a bit Opposite Day, a bit of LiarWeen vibe.

Trick the cosmos into taking away the bad shit and giving me good shit through a ritual lying ceremony, wearing a mask of duality to further confuse the issue. Ritual ash anointing to lock things down and ensure I get the stuff I want and ward off the shit I got rid of.

Candy (obvs) but I (and anyone celebrating with me) has to ask, and the person giving it has to make a point of saying no...while forking over.

And of course, games like Never Have I Ever or Two Truths & A Lie, drinking optional. (I will...probably...drink. Just saying.)

Cause they had a religious festival for everything, there's records I can squint at, and they had a strong mystery tradition that plays well with my schtick.

I am not a dedicated Rome fanby, to be clear, the empire is just very much gone, very well attested, and I can most likely swipe the shape of their shit without worrying about stepping on anyone.

And even then, I'm mixing time periods, even up to hijacking Medieval Xtian shit where and when I see fit. Cause I was baptized Catholic, and that shit is my culture to use.

Please please help Uncle Tigger find a home! We don't have a lot of time.

Urgent help needed, diabetic kitty, I can drive several hours from Tulsa. I will try to find a way to get him to you. We have until the end of September.

Look at this man! Skrunkly, well-loved, full of so so so much love and devotion. Please help me find him a home. I can't keep him more than a month, and after that, he will need to be put to sleep.

I will drive him out to you. I can go as far as 5 hours if you want to come meet me, and maybe try to get a caravan going if you're further.

Tigger's people's living situation changed for the worse and they are now in a really unsafe unsanitary house, and also cannot afford to keep up with his diabetes meds. They were going to have to euthanize because of it but I agreed to take him and try to find him a home. To give him a chance. This cat raised their youngest from an infant, was in the crib with him. He has given this world and his humans everything he has. They are absolutely devastated to part with him, but they have to.

He is super sweet and friendly, okay with dogs, okay with other cats, VERY VERY okay with kids. He gives love bites, but they are a bit too hard if you let him keep going, so he will need to be taught not to do that. More than that I cannot say. I don't know him super well but he is sweet. He mostly just wants human contact and love.

He is about 12, diabetic, and untreated for it. I have put him on diabetic food and am going to see about Senvelgo for a medication. He is neutered. He is a big ol' fatty, a real chungus. I think he has a respiratory infection, which I did not notice until after he saw the vet yesterday. I don't know that he might have other issues. I can't give any guarantees. He will need medical care to stabilize him and a clean safe home where he can live out his senior years.

Please, please help! He's in my back room right now and can't be allowed out because he needs to be quarantined. It's bare bones in there as we were clearing it out to repair the wall from some storm damage, and so he's alone a lot. He is lonely. He is used to TONS of love.

I can't keep him. I don't have the money to keep up with his meds or the ability to get him to the vet appointments he will need, or the ability to care for a fhronically ill cat right now. And he looks so damn much like a cat I had to have put down very suddenly and tragically last year that it is very painful for me to spend as much time with him as he needs. I keep crying. He is breaking my heart in every way.

Local shelters are stuffed and can't take a chronically ill older cat, so I'm stuck doing this on my own.

I know I keep saying please, but PLEASE. Tigger has given humans so much. He could have a lot of good time left!
