my high horse is actually awesome and fast like the wind
really specific trope i like that i feel like can only be explained in a diagram
Okay I saw the Odyssey (well… most of it. I had a brief escapade in the middle for 15 minutes because of a smallll popcorn fire but whatever)
Non-spoiler review/one small warning:
As someone who is a huge OG Odyssey fan, I was annoyed at first until I realized that the theme/message of the story had been changed, and that change really starts to hit in the second half. I wanted to be a hater but admittedly the parts that got cut out would not have made as much sense with the different theme, and it was a theme that I ended up not being mad about. To put it in a non-spoiler way: the journey wasn’t because of hubris with the Cyclops, it was because of something that happened before that (which didn’t click for me until the second half of the movie). This change does lead to differences in some scenes and Odysseus’s characterization
If I separate it from the original, it was a very good movie, and I thought the actors did a great job. I think the hardest thing for those of us who enjoy the original is going to be that change in theme, and once I figured out what Nolan was going for it made sense.
Is it a faithful adaptation? Not particularly. Were there things in there that only people who’ve read it would pick up on? Absolutely. Did I like the twist that Nolan did with it? Begrudgingly yes.
And now the warning:
DEAR LORD are parts of this movie (the cyclops and Circe in particular) an absolute horror show. I had to cover my eyes for what felt like 20 minutes, and my friend who went with me was doing the same. Please prepare your hearts and minds because oh BOY was I not prepared
as a child i assumed that martha’s vineyard was a fancy private vineyard owned by martha stewart and the reason rich people vacationed there was because they were friends with martha
Sleeping poorly is so embarrassing... sorry im grumpy I stayed up past my bedtime. Like a toddler
when you say something awkward and stupid in a social situation that probably no one will remember except you for the rest of time
give a character your issues it's literally free
having a multi year long character obsession becomes like a abstract thought experiment at some point
hey, don't cry. fictional character in dire & perilous situations. ok?
The fastest way to accomplish The Project is to cease being afraid of The Project. The Project cannot maim you. The Project cannot kill you. The Project is more afraid of you than you are of it. It is okay if The Project turns out differently from how it was in your head, and it is okay if it has flaws. You are capable of engaging with The Project.
I could never go on game changer. If I opened a door and there was a room filled with 50 identically dressed white dudes chanting ominously lit only with stone lights I would have a panic attack.
pov you are sent to hell
you couldnt imagine what it was like to be 10 years old and listen to radioactive by imagine dragons
of course, the best part of any character's corruption arc is their cool new outfit
