Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

people are always saying "oh better than staring at a blank page" "nothing's worse than staring at a blank page" "AT LEAST IT'S NOT A BLANK PAGE" but I'm trying to rewrite the first fanfic I posted on my ao3 and the people are wrong. And it's not a lack of ideas really. like. there are so many ideas up here. If it was a blank page it would be easier almost? But in fact there are parts I want to keep. Most of it can go to the scrap pile but starting over isn't exactly right for this situation. At one point in time this was a passion project and now there's nothing but PAIN. Call that a pain project. And, to exacerbate the issue: the original fanfic is terrible terrible written in one night bad bad bad BUT an ao3 author awesome amazing writer commented very positively and detailed on it. The fanfic did not deserve it. But herein lies another dilemma. If I change it too much (even very much for the better), then it's not the same fanfiction that maybe some people really quite enjoyed even though I get no satisfaction nothing but shame from it.

SO I leave it and feel like I cannot move on and write what I truly desire to write [many such things...] because it's like a roadblock or something OR I orphan it, setting it loose in the wind; it's out there and it haunts me but it's no longer attached to me except for the dusty google doc that contains the I guess ground zero or maybe epicenter of this calamity OR I rewrite it and try to keep it faithful while still changing it for the better until I'm no longer ashamed of it and in this way I set myself free and can now write whatever I want until I feel like the 2nd fanfic I ever posted to ao3 is no longer safe and needs to be delt with, lest the shame overcome me and scare away anyone who happens upon me or it.

starting to not make sense so I must stop my circumlocution! or whatever and make the choice to rewrite it anyway even though it's agonizing but valuable lesson here, passion can be fulfilling where it is not fun. will update unless death comes first
