I don’t think it’s a coincidence how we’ve gotten chapters in quick succession where Yuri, Yor and Twilight wondered what the death of someone in their family could impact everyone else.

Yuri could not bear to imagine Yor’s grief if Anya ever died. Yor stops in her tracks fantasy of killing Loid because she knows Anya would cry her heart out (and also because the waiter told her to not leave the restaurant with the cutlery, but let’s go with the Anya thing). And Twilight hesitated when he is given a chance to kill Yuri.

I’ve noted before here and there that SxF is fun because for a good stretch of the beginning of the series, everybody would be unlikely to kill everybody else. Anya is safe, but also probably not, given Yuri did just recently wish his niece could be ‘out of the picture’.

By this stage of the manga though, we have definitive proof that none of the adults are now capable of doing what they have been trained to do. Twilight cannot kill Yuri, an SSS agent and an enemy. Yor cannot stay a dispassionate assassin when it comes to her husband, who she once thought as disposable. And Yuri… he would disobey orders because can’t let Anya die, even as being secret police, state security should come first.

The real question is - if all three of them discovered each other’s real identities, would they still hesitate to kill?

I can try. Because the moment you stop living you don’t get a chance to fix anything any more, because the sun can never come out, because nobody can smile at you and you can’t smile at them. Because deciding to stop living is a very permanent solution to what are sometimes, especially in retrospect, very temporary problems. Because, often, time heals and things get better.
