I need everyone who makes music to spontaneously take on a sort of creative writing exercise/challenge where they're not allowed to write song about romantic relationships for like. A year. Just long enough to get some variety in the mix. Other things happen to people
this bitch is so iconic fr
“trans men don’t experience misogyny because they’re men thus cannot experience women’s oppression”
I hate to tell you this but even cis men experience misogyny if they step a toe over the line of what our incredibly sexist society sees as “proper” for a man. You really don’t think that a man with interests or expression the world sees as “female” aren’t treated with violence?
“would you say that of other privileged groups? do you think white people experience racism?”
I mean sometimes they do yeah. I know a white guy with monolid eyes and zero known Asian ancestors and he absolutely experiences anti-Asian racism on a fairly regular basis because people think he’s mixed Asian/white. I know a woman who was told throughout her life that she was Native as an adoptee with no known history or background who experienced incredibly violent amounts of anti-Native racism until she discovered as an adult through DNA test that she is 100% white. I know white people who tan incredibly dark in the summer comparatively that are constantly accused of being mixed race and experiencing racism due to that, usually anti-Mexican racism perpetrated against white people with Greek or Italian ancestors.
Their ability to make it stop by saying “hey, I’m white actually” only goes as far as the person enacting violence on them is willing to believe them. They still have to live with the trauma and physical scars from the altercations. We live in a racist world and thus there will be violent people who force all others to pass a whiteness test and eliminating or harming the rest.
Got an ask that I just block/deleted but it was basically “so you think cis people experience transphobia!?!?!?!?” and uh
If you think cis butches don’t experience both transphobia and misogyny and homophobia for daring to be women who break gender roles while still holding onto their womanhood you’ve sorely misunderstood just how bad butches have it in this world sorry. If you don’t think cis queens experience transphobia and homophobia and misogyny for daring to be men who break gender roles while being loud and proud about it and still holding onto their manhood then you’ve sorely mistaken just how bad they have it in this world as well.
Not to mention all of the cis men who wear dresses and skirts and makeup and nail polish and heels simply because they like them who experience all of these things. All of the cis straight women who simply just exist but something about them doesn’t pass society’s “woman enough” test, leading to them being caught in bathroom bills and sporting rules and being attacked by people who mistake them for being transgender or gay.
Just like how straight people experience homophobia to such a degree that they literally beat their children out of any potential deviance from rigidly upheld gender roles and let politicians make jokes on national TV about how they’d drown their pre-teen kids if they came out as LGBT. Do you really think a straight kid still figuring themselves out hears that and doesn’t internalize that homophobia? Doesn’t rigidly hold themselves to some impossible standard so that no one could ever possibly think they’re gay? You don’t think straight teenage boys who maybe don’t pass some bully’s straightness test are getting the shit kicked out of them for “being gay” when, surprise, they aren’t? You don’t think all those kids being attacked by their priests and coaches and teachers are being told “this wouldn’t have happened if you weren’t gay” when they’re literally not gay? Do you know how many straight kids had close calls at my school that famously expels all gay kids, because someone made up a believable enough rumor? Do you know how many of them still got their shit kicked in even though administration ultimately decided to let them stay?
All bigotry is violent and all bigotry catches people it doesn’t “intend” to and hurts them as well. It doesn’t matter what someone’s label is, or if they even have one. It matters if the person enacting the violence is doing it because their victim didn’t pass whatever “acceptable enough” test they didn’t know they were being subjected to.
Everyone is at risk. Oppression doesn’t care what your label is. Some people are more visible targets than others, and as a result those people are the more common targets. That doesn’t mean no one else experiences it.

it’s fun that Mormonism is based off pseudo-archeology and Scientology is based off pseudo-psychiatry. By that logic the big American New Religious Movement of the 21st century is gonna be based on… pseudo-computer science?
Hang on I need to look something up
ok people say that [tumblr] disproportionately bans trans women. common wisdom. but, like question: has anyone ever, like, proven that? because, what sticks out to me, is that if the rate of tumblr banning users was consistent across all demographics then it would certainly look a lot like the bans were skewed towards trans women, simply because tumblr's userbase is skewed towards trans women.
like if cis women were getting banned at the same rate, how would you even know??? 90% of your mutuals are trans girls!!
I think that it is real, but I think most people have the causation wildly backwards. An ex-employee gave some explanations for this and the current Trust & Safety head largely agreed.
💬 0 🔁 198 ❤️ 312 · so do trans women keep getting banned because theres a handful of moderators who need to get a life, or because theyre
Tumblr's moderation is both very broad and very buggy, and people are fairly cavalier about breaking the rules because most of the time you don't get moderated. Almost every blog has something that could probably get it moderated or banned if it was brought to the attention of the moderation team.
Also Tumblr flags seemingly random images as adult content, some of which are definitely brigading by malicious users and some of which is just glitches in the categorizer.
Tumblr does have an huge brigading issue. Because moderation is so broad and because there are real organized, malicious brigading groups who specifically target people they don't like, and often that's radfem groups, lolcow/kiwifarmers, callouts etc. who want to try and bully people out of their social space. It's also not uncommon in the more heated fandom communities but for this, radfem and kiwifarms brigading are the main factors. You can dig through someones blog and report their porn reblogs, and also just pick on someone until they say something that breaks the rules and then report them, keep doing that long enough to build up the kind of report history that might make a harried moderator press the "ban account" button.
in general I think that highly visible users are much more likely to get banned, because people get mad at them and report them, and they make a lot of posts that are more likely to give you something to get banned over.
Too many videos of cis comics with the caption “THIS is how you make respectful jokes about trans people!” and then the joke is just “trans women are real women because [misogynistic statement]” like idk buddy maybe we should workshop that one a bit more, huh?
Not fully related but in a similar note, I remember seeing a video from a supposed trans ally queer comic who was doing some crowdwork and one of the audience members shouted out a witty response and the comic went “that must have been a man lol.”
It was not a man. The audience member was a trans woman, and the comic spent the next minute or so profusely apologising for misgendering her and cracking some trans-inclusive jokes but ended up saying something along the lines of “trans women are great, if all women were socialised as men I think all of our problems would be solved.”
And when a few trans women in the comments POLITELY pointed out that this was blatant TERF rhetoric, the comic went “well the trans women in my audience seemed to enjoy my jokes 🤷♂️” instead of like… taking it on board.
And she is yet another cis comic that people will repost saying shit like “THIS is how you make jokes about trans people” but then you watch the jokes and it’s still transphobia but they’re gendering trans people correctly so apparently it’s okay.
disco elysium does a good job of filtering out the 'alpine witch' cozy crowd by showing us, before anything else, a mostly nude bloated alcoholic man groaning to himself on the floor. and also you have to be him, and also if you do a bad job of grabbing your necktie off the ceiling fan then your heart gives out and you get a game over. like it's such a beautiful and intelligent game, but I wonder if part of the universal praise it gets is from that highly vocal section of the populace getting yucked out at the start. or maybe I'm just stupid and overthinking things
this is why Dream Daddy got cancelled for having a canned halloween plotline, while in Disco Elysium you get to walk around in a jacket with piss f*ggot sprayed on the back and everyone loves it (rightfully, it's a really good jacket)
it’s a shame more vampire media doesn’t pull from vampire bat behavior because they’re such sweeties. they can only survive their incredibly specialized diet because bats will share blood with colony members that didn’t find a meal! there’s evidence that suggests the donors sometimes initiate this behavior themselves by approaching hungry bats! the colonies are mostly harems of females with a few males but they’ve been observed letting unrelated males in when it gets cold so they can all stay warm! cute little social critters!
@yupekosi your tags have created such a beautiful world
Lines of thought that seem Normal but are actually rooted in extreme puritanism:
-Seeing the nude human body is inherently traumatic -Sex scenes in art are pointless -Wearing kink-related clothing in public is the similar to performing a sex scene in front of unwilling participants -Depicting female characters expressing sexuality is always degrading -People's sexual fantasies are always an endorsement of the behavior they want to see in real life -Sex work is more traumatic and coercive than other types of work The goal is to treat sex as just another thing people do. That is a much healthier attitude than hiding it! It's not uniquely traumatic, it's not weird to talk about it or include it in society.
A lot of people don't realize just how much space car infrastructure takes up. So I've decided to provide everyone a visual aid!
I've presented two maps at the exact same zoom level, as indicated by the big red arrow. They also each have a red area circled, of approximately the same area.
In the first image, I've circled one of eightish parking lots at a US mall. A normal amount of distance for even Americans who drive everywhere to walk through.
In the second image, I've circled:
a subway station
a park
like twenty apartment buildings
like twenty restaurants
three convenience stores (which, being Japanese, can also handle banking, copying/printing, and a variety of governmental paperwork)
one grocery store (another two right outside the circle)
seven medical clinics, two pharmacies
a fire station
a post office
two preschools and three cram schools
a Shintō shrine
a Buddhist temple
multiple parking lots
This wasn't even a particularly cherry-picked part of Tokyo! I just picked the area around my house.
No, we don't need to get "regular porn" back on this website. I mean, sure it should be permitted, but esoteric bizarrely sensual videos of industrial processes & oozing goops which challenge the very notion of "pornography" are actually far superior to the derivative drivel from profit-oriented studios like Brazzers and Bang Bros
no need for tags this'll find its audience
Unironically I've come to love tumblrs surreal exploration of the erotic and explicit in the face of a draconian ban on adult content.
The Machine That Will Eat Your Hand crushing fifteen cans of paint captures more of a primal sexual feeling than I could ever get from standard porn
Also to be real, even when normal porn was allowed on here we were already eroticizing and abstract and surreal. Returning normal porn won't change this at all and if anything it'll make things get weirder actually.
The least useful online space to hang out in is the type that's designated for "aspiring [creative skill]" with no users in them who actually make a living doing that skill. Someone who's been aspiring to create something without actually making anything for significant amounts of time has no useful advice for you if you actually want to do it.
Don't get stuck preparing to make something forever. Start making something, finish it quickly and move on. The first thing you make will suck, and then in the process of making it you'll have learned a whole bunch of stuff, which will make the next thing better.
