I honestly think that the reason that twitter and tik tok think that tumblr is dead is that it does not have an algorythym that spoon feeds you content in the same way, there's no fyp and there's no news feed in the same way and people come here not realising they actually have to follow creators to see content.

It's actually harder to get echo chambered on Tumblr, because posts travel organically and are bound to attract people you never expected to attract, while the algorithm-based feeds tend to feed you what you already consume.

People will watch things like parasite and squid game, media that blatantly calls out capitalism and the effect that it has on the lower class and still come out of it like "wow I can't believe poor people are morally bad because they're poor and there's no other outside influence"

Actually Rebecca Black always was a pretty talented singer. What happened with her was that she fell for a record label scam when she was a teen and said record label is to blame for the lack in quality of her early work.

Record label scams heavily exaggerate the skill levels of the young adults they make money off of to them and then intentionally set them up to fail so they wouldn't need to genuinely start managing them.

They will produce one or two songs for you knowing full well they won't gain much traction nor make a return on your investment.

Rebecca was fortunate in the sense that her debute song became a meme, which helped kick of her career but also sadly to this day left a stain on her reputation and even lead to a bunch of pathetic low lives to make threats for a cringy song, might I remind you, she was like 16 back then.

She was never a bad singer, she was inexperienced and had no idea what making a professional music video would lead to. She was just a teenager who decided to make a music video with a label for the experience, said lable butchered her voice with autotune and directed a awfull music video to a nonesensical song because it never cared to deliver a good product for the money their client payed them and said product managed to be so bad that it became a giant joke

Which is how we got to this point where Rebecca is starting to tip her toes back into the industry due to having the means and connections now but she also is still dealing with the fall out of having been publicly humiliated, bad mouthed and threatened for years over a cringy song she sung as a teen which will forever be part of her legacy.

I love that in the ten years I've been on tumblr, tumblr users' attitude towards tumblr has come full circle, now we're back where we started at "tumblr is our beloved home, no other social media can compare, no other website has what we have, do not trust other websites, do not tell the outsiders about us", only this time we're like. Really exhausted and with a sense of irony about it.
