Pesterlog Auto-Formatter (for the Ao3 homestuck skin)
If you were wondering why @lillikoifish was singing my praises earlier, it's because they got to beta test my latest lil project inspired by our convo, where they mentioned how annoying it is going through lots of pesterlog scripts and formatting em for ao3... even with the homestuck skin... and I was like, oh, surely there's a tool somewhere that can look at your chatlog, see which character is typing and add it in for you??
Nope, apparently that didn't already exist? So figured I'd make one. I'm still messing around with it rn, but you can try it here: https://viridiancubist.tumblr.com/pesterlogformatter
Most of the kids share shortened handles, like Dirk and Rose both being 'TT' so one of them is the default TT and on is 'TT2' - you can toggle which one that is. The output script removes the '2' part.
So you can put in a chatlog like this;
TT: Hi.
TT2: Sup.
and it will give you this:
<p><span class="rose">TT: Hi.</p> <p><span class="dirk">TT: Sup.</p> or <span class="rose">TT: Hi.</span><br> <span class="dirk">TT: Sup.</span> (depending on whether you want line breaks or not)
which will end up looking something like this in Ao3:
TT: Hi. TT: Sup.
So long as the character handle/name at the start of the line is followed by a colon (:) and matches one of the aliases in the drop-down menu, that character's style should be automatically provided in the output. You can add new characters and aliases via the 'character name + aliases' drop-down menu.
I'm still tinkering with it, and I'm gonna add a Davepeta and Jasprose with their multicoloured text style soon. If theres any other suggested improvements lmk and I'll see what I can do :)
I probably shoulda gone into more detail about what I was doing, but I'm lazy at explaining things... and now that I've updated I can just show ya'll what what I'm tinkering with!
There are more features than just the workskin colour formatting - you can also toggle/create multi-colour and other typing quirks that will be added in the output. Your customisations should be remembered in localstorage (until you clear your cache/cookies), so you won't have to redo them each time you visit. I'm sure there may still be some bugs I haven't ironed out yet, so do lmk if you find any issues, or if there's any other features that could be added for max pesterlogging convenience!
Also! This site was suggested, and looks better suited for formatting larger amounts of text for the ao3 work skin or MSPA fan adventures. It doesnt seem (?) to have quirk formatting, but it does have other Homestuck-style text options beyond the pesterlogs, more output options, and allows you to generate your own ao3 skin with both custom characters and homestuck skin presets which sounds super handy!
Tumblr has disabled themes+sidepages on my main for some reason, and it hasn't been reinstated yet.
You can still access the formatter here:
