May I suggest a silly little HC that Yuna got David into a 5-step skincare routine when they got married, and so the two of them have matching routines they do every night.
Which means that when Shane is a baby teen, David teaches Shane how to shave, and Yuna teaches Shane how to take care of his skin.
Also!
Cut to a decade later, and it's Friday night in the Hollander household, and everyone is wearing a collagen face mask.
Yuna is in a matching pj set, hair up in a bun, popping popcorn in the kitchen.
David is in the living room in his flannel robe, leaning over his puzzle.
Shane and Ilya are on the couch, wearing matching pj pants and plain tees, fighting over the remote.

Mind the tags on this one.
------
“It’s, uh, lunchtime, sir… and I…” Keith doesn’t really know how to go about telling a multi-billionaire ‘I expected you to feed me’ so he just leaves the thought hanging in the air.
Surprise paints across Shiro’s face as he lifts his head and takes a good look at Keith.
“So it is.” He takes a deep breath and calms himself instantly, the angry aura banished from the room. “I’m sorry, Keith. Come in. You must be starving.”
“I am.” Keith gives a weak little laugh.
It makes Shiro smile. He leans back in his chair, surveying Keith with a sharp eye; he raises one hand in the air and snaps his fingers.
The door behind Keith slams closed, and Keith hears the metallic slide of the lock turning into place. He only has a fraction of a moment to feel confused before his thoughts turn fuzzy. In another moment, Keith’s mind is completely blank.
I was thinking about Ilya's depression and how he struggles with keeping to his exercise routine and diet when he's depressed. And how he still manages to beat Shane at races etc and keep up with hockey etc.
And I know TLG suggests some natural athleticism that kinda covers for him during the down spiral. But there's probably also some over-exercising-as-punishment going on, too, eh?
Like, spending two days in bed letting the depression take over. And then spending two days mercilessly overworking your body as punishment for the extra-bad days. Just fluctuating between the two extremes any time Shane (or any teammate) isn't around to unknowingly help even him out.
Stuck in a destructive loop of over and under that appears to even him out but is definitely making everything worse. Plus, it makes it easier for him to hide his depression because he's still playing fine. He's still got acceptable weight and muscle mass to keep the drs and coaches happy.
Just.... I feel for him. Hiding from the world because that's all he can handle. And then punishing himself because he couldn't do better before.
Summary: Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov have been friends since they were five years old. From neighbors, to peewee hockey, to college, and beyond, they've been in one another's orbits for nearly their whole lives. What happens when that level of knowledge and intimacy goes from friendship to... something more?
Excerpt:
November
Ilya was lounging on the couch in Shane’s apartment, waiting for him to get back from his last class of the day.
Ilya got out early on Fridays and it was a rare off week from hockey, so he’d made his way to Montreal to spend the weekend with Shane.
Shane had let him in before going to class and Ilya had napped. Shane had texted and said he was walking from the bus stop now so he’d be back in ten minutes.
Ilya looked up from his phone as the door to the apartment opened, wondering if maybe Shane had gotten back faster than expected, only to see Hayden Pike walk in.
Thank you to @herrmannhalsteadproduction for the tag! I never get tagged for these kinds of things and so I really appreciate it! <3
I have two active WIPs at the moment, but only one that I've been focusing on the most over the last few months.
fanfic or original? title?
It's a fanfic. It doesn't have a title (I usually don't come up with titles until like 5 minutes before I post) but it's called "Omegaverse Hollanov" in my onedrive.
first two sentences of your current project
Photoshoots always seemed to take more energy than playing professional hockey. Or, semi-professional hockey: Shane hasn’t actually played a game for the NHL yet.
most recently written sentence of your current project
Upstairs, Shane follows into Ilya’s guest room and tosses his bag onto a chair beside an empty laundry basket.
favourite line(s) in your current project
Picking my fav lines is difficult, partly because I'm a narcissist and partly because this bastard is 81k and counting, so there's lots to choose from. So here's 3:
1:
Stop. We can’t. This is dangerous.
Shane could say any one of those, end it all right here and right now. But what comes out instead is, “Not here.”
2:
Shane pulls Ilya into a kiss. Slow. Loving. Possessive.
His thumb rubs away a tear from the corner of Ilya’s eye, and Ilya sinks deeper into the kiss. Crack his chest open and pull out his heart, because it’s not his own. It belongs to Shane Hollander.
Tattoo the name on his left ventricle. Sear a brand with a hot poker.
Do whatever Shane wants with it – it’s his now.
It’s probably been his for a long time.
3:
“Your parents love you, yes? They just want to know you are okay. You can tell them this, hm? Unless,” Ilya raises a teasing eyebrow, “you are not okay? Are you unhappy, lyubimyy? Your alpha is too handsome? Your nest too big and soft and wonderful? Huh? Tell me your problems.”
It works. Shane’s smile is bright and mischievous.
“Too handsome. Definitely.” He leans up and sniffs intently at Ilya’s neck. “Smells too good, too.”
“Such hardships you face, Hollander. They will write stories of your torment.”
how close is your project to the end?
Very close. I'm in the last chapter, finally! Though this fic has really long chapters and they've been taking me ages. But we're on the home stretch now! All that's left is to tie up all the loose ends.

tbh I will defend Hayden's skill as a player all day, no one mediocre is able to keep up with Shane Hollander for a decade. that man is skilled, he has the on ice chemistry and trophies to back it up.
I still don't like his character bc I think the trope where people hate their bestie's partner is boring and overdone, especially for queer people, and the long game doesn't exactly make him look good. but he is a brilliant player.
Okay im gonna use this to make an entirely far too long post that no one cares about that is essentially an entire legal defense for my boy Hayden Pike. Strap in.
First, I think it is important to establish that Hayden does NOT actually hate Ilya. He trusts him enough with his kids. If he truly hated him, he would not do that. Does Ilya annoy him? Yes, but that is understandable given the fact that we can assume Ilya has been terrorizing him on the ice for 10 years and they've had basically no interactions outside of that. And Ilya absolutely does it on purpose anyways.
So, what are his crimes?
(if i forgot one, lmk. I'm ignoring the outing because that was entirely accidental)
CRIME 1 - Letting J.J. Set Shane Up With Other Men
I see the fandom talking about this one a lot, and I really think it's been misinterpreted. J.J. goes into this conversation with Hayden very concerned about Shane. As far as he knows, Shane spends all of his time outside of Hockey alone at home. He doesn't really have close friends, he doesn't go out, and J.J. cares so he wants to help. What is Hayden supposed to say to this that doesn't reveal private information to J.J. that Shane has asked him to keep secret? He can't even suggest that Shane has a partner, because that would be risky and would lead to more questions. He can't lie on Shane's behalf, because knowing Shane, having to conform to this random lie about who he hangs out with would probably be worse for him. It is genuinely for the best to just let Shane handle this.
In the book, we see Shane's internal monologue:
The point was that Shane had a perfectly good secret boyfriend, so obviously it was rude of J.J. to try to set Shane up with other men. Even if J.J. didn’t know Shane was with anyone, and probably assumed Shane hadn’t had sex in years. Or ever.
People talk about this moment a lot in a "how dare Hayden let J.J. do this" way, but my question is, do what? This passage isn't about Shane being mad that J.J. tried to set him up, not really. It is acknowledging that Shane is upset at J.J. by this even though he knows he has no right to be, because J.J. doesn't know. That's the problem -- Shane's frustrated that he has to hide this. He doesn't give a fuck about being set up. It's entirely inconsequential. Shane is a grown man, he can reject J.J.'s efforts very easily (which he does, and then moves on without issue). This is a perfectly normal conversation to have, the problem is the broader context of Shane having to keep Ilya a secret, which has nothing to do with Hayden.
When Hayden comes back in, they have this conversation:
“Why didn’t you, like, discourage him?”
“Because the dude sounded perfect for you.” Hayden held his arms out when Shane’s mouth dropped open. “What? I think you can do better!”
“For fuck’s sake. Thanks, Hayden.”
Hayden sat next to him, and nudged his arm with his elbow. “I’m kidding. Mostly. Besides.” He leaned in. “I know you and Ilya are married now, so…”
Shane closed his eyes. “Oh my god.”
“Jade told me it was a beautiful ceremony. I’m a little hurt that I wasn’t invited but, y’know. I’m happy for you kids.”
“Shut up.”
Hayden laughed, and eventually Shane joined him.
“You know,” Hayden said seriously, “even though I give you shit about him, I do hope that I’d be invited. If you ever did get married for real.”
When Shane asks why Hayden didn't discourage J.J., Hayden gives a non-answer. He is joking, and the use of physical contact shows that he is reassuring Shane here, then he immediately turns the topic to Shane and Ilya's not-wedding wedding. He's affirming the relationship here -- affirming that his kids love Ilya too, and yes, he doesn't ever give a real answer to Shane's question, but he doesn't need to. Shane isn't actually mad, and they both know J.J. - J.J. is the guy who, as established in HR, does not take no for an answer when it comes to pushing Shane out of his comfort zone. We know this about J.J.'s character, Shane knows it, Hayden knows it. No discouragement would have worked without Hayden revealing something. My clients hands were tied here.
CRIME 2 - Nailpolishgate
Hayden tells his son that nail polish is for girls. Hayden is wrong, obviously, and is guilty of the crime of perpetuating gender roles. My client is not perfect and has some fragile masculinity to unpack. But don't we all (Shane sure as hell does).
CRIME 3 - Not Checking On Him After The Plane Crash
This one, imo, is a rachel reid fumble, and I do think Jacob will fix this in the show. We do not know that Hayden explicitly did not check in on Shane, we just know that we didn't see it happen in the book. But we also didn't see Shane coming out to the voyageurs. I do not think adding a scene like this to the book would have been very interesting or relevant, nor did I think RR anticipated people reading into Hayden so much, so I think it makes sense that it was skipped, and doesn't necessarily mean that it Did Not Happen. My client pleads not guilty due to lack of evidence.
CRIME 4 - The Outing
This was a very understandable accident. Matter adjourned.
CRIME 5 - The Trip
This is probably the most talked about of the 5, and it really does confuse me. I think the issue is that Hayden didn't defend him quickly enough", but we don't actually know anything about what Hayden is thinking or where he is up until he is next to Shane and defending him. When Shane first trips we get this:
He watched miserably, on one knee, as the Ottawa bench spilled onto the ice and piled on top of Ilya in celebration. Eventually he felt a hand on his shoulder, and he knew without looking that it was Hayden.
“It’s over, buddy,” Hayden said. “Come line up for the handshakes.”
And then Hayden isn't mentioned again until:
Suddenly, Hayden was at Shane’s side. “Of course we don’t fucking think that. Come on, guys. Shane would never betray his team.”
So we know that Hayden immediately reassures him. He calls him "buddy", and "it's over" shows that he is comforting Shane about the loss of the game. If he thought Shane lost the game on purpose - why would he do this?
Shane appearing at Shane's side tells us that he wasn't there before. Hayden's locker is next to Shane's - where else would he be? For all we know, he was taking a second to take stock of what was happening and assess the situation, but the second he was there and next to Shane, he jumped in to defend him. Nothing here indicates he had any doubt. Again, lack of evidence. Client pleads innocent on account of libel.
To conclude...
Hayden keeps Shane and Ilya's secret for over a year. He and Jackie act as one of the only spaces where Shane and Ilya can exist as a normal couple. And pre-TLG, Hayden was essentially Shane's only support system outside of his parents. Hayden spotted that Shane needed a friend, and he gave him that and more. He gave him Jackie, and the kids, and a second family. Is he the most attentive guy? No. Is he the most mature guy? No. Is he particularly woke? No. But he cares deeply about Shane, is invested in his happiness, and he's just a normal guy. He has flaws, but so does Shane. So does everyone.
Anyways that is all. If I got anything wrong pls call me out, it's been a while since my last reread.
Playing on the fun HC I saw where Shane thinks everything he and Ilya get up to is fully normal because his reference point for sex is Jackie and Hayden having the wildest, freakiest sex imaginable.
It takes a long time before Hayden and Jackie open up enough to let Ilya see that side of them. Jackie would have been willing sooner, but she waits until Hayden really trusts Ilya before they let their guard down and go back to referencing what they get up to, or Jackie casually domming Hayden in front of them.
For Shane, it's a relief when they start going back to normal, and he doesn't need to keep quiet about them.
For Ilya, it's a big lightbulb moment. But he's also pretty quickly like "do you invite others to play? I know a beautiful woman who loves to bully men and please women. I think she'd be perfect."
He's calling Sveta that night to see when she can visit next.
And it ends up being a very perfect arrangement for them. A trusted person to play with regularly, who fits well into their dynamic, but doesn't want to be part of it full time. And Sveta gets to keep all her freedom to do and play as she pleases while also having a good, solid thing to come back to whenever she starts to crave that stability. Similar to how she was with Ilya before he became a one-man man.
Just... Hayden being stepped on and degraded by two beautiful women.
Jackie getting eaten out by Sveta while Hayden worships her feet.
Sveta getting rocked by Jackie with a double-ended dildo while Hayden whimpers in the corner, both of their underwear stuffed in his mouth.
Hayden with a cock-ring being used like a dildo to make Jackie and Sveta come multiple times while he begs them to spit in his mouth.
Learning Sveta is into spanking, so draping her over Hayden's lap so he can spank her with his big, hockey-rough hands, while Jackie directs each and every hit, and pets both their heads, alternating between praising them and shaming them.
Tying Hayden to the bed so Jackie and Sveta can make out on top of him. Maybe use his dick to cockwarm while Sveta eats Jackie out. And when Hayden is crying and begging, they lay down treat his dick like a lollipop, making it so slow it's almost excruciating, and he's pulling at the binds, whole body shaking, when he finally comes.
Sveta holding Hayden's head down between Jackie's legs and not letting him up until Jackie's had "enough" orgasms. And when Jackie's finally so exhausted (and satisfied) she turns to jelly, Sveta takes Hayden by the scruff of the neck and gets him to fuck Sveta into the mattress.
Just the three of them having so much dirty fun, whenever they get the chance to all be together!
The way I can see Hayden, face down in the pillows, fists clenched tight around the sheets, moaning and grunting, while Shane is knelt beside him, whispering "you're doing great, Hayd. He's almost in. Just a little more. You're doing so good. Doesn't he feel amazing?"
And Ilya is behind him, sweating, gripping Hayden's slutty little waist, forcing himself to go slow in a way he hasn't had to do in years. Jaw open, eyes closed, desperately holding back the urge to slam inside because it's tight and hot and TIGHT.

Shane has been in and out all night. He’s torn, as always, between wanting to be in the room and chatting with their friends, and being jealous he can’t play. He loves, loves, to sneak a peak at Ilya’s hole cards (pun not intended, but always welcome) and lean over his chair, whispering strategy in Ilya’s ear. It’s adorable, and arousing, and, honestly, frustrating because Shane is absolutely genius at calculating the statistics of each hand and absolutely abysmal at reading the players at the table.
He’ll say things like “With six people at the table, an Ace in the hole has a probability of blah-dee-blah% of being the best hand, and also, smart-people stuff and math-terms. So, I think you should raise the bet.” And completely ignore the fact that at least three other people at the table have made clear signs that they’re sitting on gold.
I keep thinking about Yuna and David and how they thought, maybe Shane might be gay because they know him pretty well, and just all the innocent, ill-conceived, and hilarious ways they tried to hint at it before the Rozanov-Cottage-Ass-Grab Incident.
---
David: Work had us do some inclusivity training today. It was pretty interesting.
Shane: That's cool, dad *doesn't know what that means, but never knows what anything related to his dad's work means*
---
Yuna: That Anderson Cooper. He's such a cutie.
Shane: who?
---
Yuna: You know, I hear the actor who plays Sheldon is gay.
Shane: Who? *but in an alarmed way because she said the word that should never be said*
Yuna: Big Bang Theory?
Shane: What?
---
David: You know who has good music? That Lady Gaga.
Shane: Sure *can't name a number Lady Gaga song (though would recognize some if played to him)*
---
Yuna, internally: Ok, i got this one.

Shane: OMG, did you know... *proceeds to info dump all of Poulin's stats and awards and all the awesome goals he's ever seen her make*
AU where Shane and Ilya don't hook up or have a decades-long secret. They don't really know each other at all, except to play each other.
Shane comes out of the closet sometime after Scott does, and in some random, lighthearted interview, they ask him what he's looking for in a man. And Shane's just, off-hand like, "Well, he'd have to have at least one Stanley Cup. Obviously." And when he gets a good reaction from that, he keeps going, like "Needs to be amazing at hockey. Definitely needs to be at least an All-Star, if not a captain. Hot too. If he can't bench-press me, I'm not interested."
And it's all in fun, except two days after the interview prints, Ilya Rozanov shows up at his door like "knock, knock. I am here to apply for boyfriend position. Do you need resume? I brought my Stanley Cup ring, just in case."
JJ would also be there, but as a contestant. he would absolutely fight for his bff's hand in marriage, and to keep his friends honor intact.
Scott does the same. he's in a committed relationship, so he's not a contender, he's more like the bar you have to clear. You gotta be at least Scott Hunter or better to date the 'rookie'
also the actual all-star event gets so fucking hijacked, the homophobes are big mad. after every contest the players look at Shane expectantly, hoping for a smile or some kind of gesture of goodwill or favor. it's like an actual medieval tourney, or some kind of romance game show.
Shane is hockey's golden boy, their gold standard. he's the hottest man alive and he has three Stanley cups. most straight men would suck his dick if given half a chance.
It all eventually ends when Shane makes his decision by kissing the top of Ilya's hockey stick before passing it to him. it's the happiest moment of Ilya's life. JJ is big mad.
Ilya and Shane fuck nasty after that.
Now I low key want to write a media au fanfic about this, fuck.
The Hollander Boyfriend Checklist
Hollanov | Rated: T | Chapter One
Inspired by this post by @watermelontuesdays!
Summary:
In a world where Shane & Ilya never hooked up and were only ever rivals and colleagues, Shane does eventually come out (after Scott and Kip’s kiss that changed everything.) He keeps the media at bay by teasing what he’s looking for in an ideal boyfriend.
Ilya starts taking notes.
He’s not the only one.
Excerpt:
Shane
Shane’s life was hockey. As soon as he’d learned to skate, he lived and breathed the game. Knew the rules. Understood them in a way that was a head-rush of relief in a world that usually offered him nothing, but stress and discomfort. Hockey helped him carve out a space for himself and he loved it for that.
He knew the love he got in return was always conditional, but over the years he’d convinced himself it was enough. It had to be.
And then he watched Scott Hunter kiss his boyfriend out on the ice, after winning the Cup, and Shane realized not only did he want more…
He needed it.
That place inside of himself where he’d packed away everything that didn’t fit into the world he loved—everything he’d tried so desperately to ignore—cracked wide open and it all poured out.
Aching loneliness.
Bitter jealousy.
A deep, yearning want.
And the worst one—the one that he never seemed to be able to stamp out, no matter how hard he tried: a spark of hope.
Could I have that?
Staring at Hunter, who was fully fucking making out with his boyfriend between declarations of love, Shane didn’t even realize he’d started crying until his mom reached over to swipe a gentle finger down his cheek. He startled, huffing out a laugh as he scrubbed a hand across his face, suddenly aware of how the cheers from the TV were the only sound in the room.
“Sweetheart,” she began and Shane shook his head.
“I’m okay. I’m—” Fine? Happy for Hunter? Any answer would be good enough in its own way, something his parents would accept, but he couldn’t sit there in this moment and bring himself to say anything but the truth.
“…I’m gay.”
Silence fell over the living room again and Shane held his breath. He couldn’t take the words back, wasn’t even sure if he wanted to, but this—this would change everything. Every scenario he’d run through his brain before was purely theoretical. Ready or not, he was about to find out if their love was conditional too.
His dad cleared his throat, leaning forward to brace his elbows on his knees as he dipped his head to meet Shane’s gaze. “Hi, gay,” he said. “I’m Dad.”
