how do policy debaters do the same topic all year

the topics are so big that it would be a nightmare to change every 1-2 months (but by the end of the season i don’t want to hear about the topic for a while)

A good argument for this that won me several bq rounds is the fact that nothing is born knowing math meaning that you can argue because it has to be taught by humans means that humans created it. Like some animals can learn basic math if we teach them but they wont develop it on their own

With that, how did you respond to any rebuttals along the lines of “we don’t have to understand math for it to exist”? And would you define math as the written way of representing mathematical relationships or the mathematical relationships themselves for your neg case?

Usually you can just respond that while things can exist before we understand that it doesn’t mean that the means to understand them do so we must invent them because math is a tool and tools must be created. You can use imaginary numbers and graphs because they don’t exist anywhere in nature and we created them to suit our own needs luckily with this argument you can define math as either

Choose something unique--the judges will get tired of hearing the same types of speeches every round.

People like to hear about things that are slightly taboo or morbid, so I’d say number one sounds good.

Number 3 will perk up the ears of fellow students and maybe younger judges because it sounds like a meme. Ragnorak would have the same effect bc if its reference to pop culture. Even though these two wouldn’t be about the meme or the movie, that connection to what people like will be made and might grab some people’s interest. Even so, remember that it’s the judges we care about, not fellow competitors.

Personally, I think number 1 sounds really interesting, but they’d all be good!

I know this is a long shot, as the speech and debate community here is virtually nonexistent, but I need help:

Tomorrow afternoon I”m judging a junior high congress round for the first time, and I don’t know how to do that. I’ve only ever debated congress in class, never at tourneys.

I’m very tech over truth (ie, dropped arguments are a big no-no), if that affects anything.
