Crying bc the events of Pacific's Rim are literally happening right now. January 8 was the day Mako and Raleigh fought those kaijus in the Hong Kong double event. January 12 is the triple event where they close the breach. In two days we cancel the apocalypse.

Hi I have a question about Pacific Rim. Given that the sparring is just A way to test for drift compatibility and any activity that requires people to collaborate and anticipate each others moves works, including stuff like multi player video games

Can you test for drift compatibility via improv comedy

so i watched the movie of all time

my most memorable experience of pacific rim wasn't seeing it in the theater for the first time, but watching it with my dad a few months later

when i described it to him as "giant monsters vs robots" i perhaps undersold just how big these things actually were, so 30 seconds in when he saw trespasser for the first time

he said "oh my god"

and then when he saw gipsy danger to scale for the first time

he shouted "OH MY GOD!"

that TV was maybe 19" across and it was the most satisfying possible experience of watching pacific rim

for clarification: 2025 is Pacific Rim victory year. moreso, January is victory month. in terms of celebratory events, we're actually reaching the end of the film timeline. so for all those drift-compatible, Kaiju groupies still on this site, this is your friendly reminder of the following important dates:

January 8th:

Double Event (Category IV Kaiju, Leatherback and Otachi, emerge from the breach); Newt drifts with a Kaiju brain; RIP Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon

January 12th:

Triple Event (Category IV Kaiju, Scunner and Raiju, and Category V Kaiju, Slattern, emerge from the breach); attack is launched on the breach; RIP Striker Eureka 😭; Lady Danger destroys the breach via self detonation.

so congrats to us! we are finally cancelling the apocalypse!

Are you kidding me? Pacific Rim 100% predicted this kind of thing. That's literally what the Pacific Perimeter Program was about. Once the PPDC decided fighting kaiju was too expensive, they just gave up and chose to ignore the problem by putting it behind a big wall. Pacific Rim is literally about the people who were abandoned by the institutions that were supposed to protect them and kept on trying anyway.
