A violent storm rolled through our area last Wednesday evening knocking out power and flattening trees in a hit and miss pattern across our region. Rural homes that were once nestled in thick woods are now looking out at an entirely different landscape filled with bright sunshine and weeks of cleanup work. These properties will never look the same again in our lifetime and I really feel for those affected while the rest of us suffered very little or no damage at all. I am one of the lucky ones right now because as an introvert, my personality is naturally well suited to social distancing. As a writer and artist, I thrive in solitude. My partner, on the other hand, is very much an extrovert who likes to be out doing things, but he’s doing his part and staying home so we can all get back to normal sooner. I used to wait until my birthday each year to assess my life and see what was serving me and what was not, but I do this much more often now. I embrace change and as I age I am happy to let go of things in me that have served their purpose but no longer fit with who I am, and who I am becoming. I still enjoy taking a good look at myself and my life on my birthday, but I no longer look to cut what I don’t like, instead, I choose to celebrate what I love, and in doing that, what no longer serves me seems to just fall away on its own now. I love the feeling of starting a new chapter in my life and my birthday is always a great day to begin anew.
