Character Introduction Interview: Samson Conrad (01.15.2026)
Disclaimer: These interviews are not canon and are used to introduce the characters and world that The Loremaster and I have made.
[SCRIBE] Okay, Samson. Feeling ready to answer a few questions?
[SCRIBE] Firstly, tell us a bit about yourself.
[SAMSON] God, alright. My name is Samson Conrad. I'm 19 as of the beginning of the year, and I've got a bachelor's degree in psychology. My cat Trout is my best friend, and I'm really into music.
[SCIRBE] Great! The researcher position, you didn't apply for it, right?
[SAMSON] No- I mean, correct. I didn't apply. I just got invited I guess.
[SCRIBE] Will this be your first real job you've had outside of school?
[SAMSON] I suppose it depends on what you call "real." I worked at Baskin Robbins finishing up my degree and diploma, but as for something in the "real adult world," this is the first.
[SCRIBE] What did your parents say when you told them?
[SAMSON] My dad seemed excited enough? We don't talk as much as you might figure. I think he might have told his girlfriend, but I'm not sure.
[SAMSON] My mom died in 2020.
[SCRIBE] I'm- I'm so sorry. When then do you head up for onboarding?
[SAMSON] End of the month. It'll be a full move. I've worked the details out with the person who gave me the offer in the first place.
[SCRIBE] With Simon Knyles?
[SAMSON] No, with Ms. Sarah Montgomery. I don't know if I'll speak to Mr. Knyles after I'm hired or something, but I think Ms. Montgomery acts as my direct supervisor.
[SCRIBE] Sure, okay. Since this is your first official "degree relevant" job, do you think you're ready for it, being as young as you are?
[SAMSON] I think so. My job description seems pretty simple, and spending all day in a library and near research laboratories sounds like a dream.
[SCRIBE] Is that your favorite part of psychology then? The research?
[SAMSON] Sort of? Obviously ethical guidelines are really important in a discipline like psychology, and I really enjoy the challenge of acting within them for the safety of everyone studied and still producing something that changes the overall understanding of the field. That's what I want to do.
[SCRIBE] What about coworkers? Are you worried about getting along with them?
[SAMSON] Not really. I'd like to think I'm pretty friendly and easygoing. The biggest hurdle I imagine is being taken seriously, and I guess I'll just need to be helpful enough to stop that concern before it starts.
[SCRIBE] You've mentioned you're disabled. Do you think that disability will affect your performance?
[SAMSON] If I was paying for it myself it might, but since the Institute is willing to cover all of the costs of my oxygen, not at all. It's not like I'll be sprinting all over the office. I'm not a track star, I'm a researcher. I won't need to be an athlete for it. I think the thing that worries me the most is how scattered I can get. ADHD doesn't exactly make memory easy for me.
[SCRIBE] That makes sense. Thanks so much for answering my questions today. Best of luck at The Nocturne Institute. Do keep us posted.
[SAMSON] Yeah, sure. Not a problem at all.
