we gotta get back to torrent distribution, i just watched someone eat eight grand in bandwidth charges because they ran a direct-download piracy site with local file hosting through cloudflare. torrents were invented literally for this exact reason
torrents work like this
i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3
unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it
i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map
i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs
this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.
crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.
please learn to torrent
An expert guide to get started using torrentsTorrents are one of the most popular forms of file sharing on the internet, accounting for over
always use qbittorrent, do not use bittorrent or utorrent.
Thank you so much
Trans people deserve to grow old.
Within the past month, 2 trans college students were murdered.
Rest in Peace Juniper Blessing and Murray Foust
Juniper was 19 and stabbed to death doing her laundry at the University of Washington in Seattle
Murray was 22 when he went missing, he was found dead a month later, he was set to Graduate from Northern Kentucky University on May 9th
your pinned has a dni for basically everything and yet i don't see one for murderers #whatdatmean
I want murderers to interact with me
This brought tears to my conservationist heart today.
The continued existence of these species is the legacy of so many people whose names we will never know--some of who never lived to see the impacts of their work.
When you count up the flaws of our species, you have to count the good things too--out of the many species throughout Earth's history that have caused the demise or endangerment of other species, we are the only one that tries to fix it out of our fascination and love for other life forms.
(Big thank you to the anonymous asker who sent this in!)
Earth Day reblog of this thing that made me cry.
And I'll add some other recent good conservation news.
•Green sea turtles are no longer endangered
•Giant pandas are no longer endangered
•Panamanian golden frogs were returned to the wild for the first time since they were wiped out by chytrid 17 years ago
•The Eastern humpback whale population has exceeded pre-whaling numbers and many other whale species are showing strong signs of recovery
•Salmon and bison have been returned to their former habitat in multiple parts of the US through dam removal, habitat restoration, and reintroduction
•The Western monarch migration was up 60% compared to last year
•Galapagos tortoises were reintroduced to Floreana for the first time in 180 years
•Attenborough's long beaked echidna was rediscovered after being though extinct for decades
•Five "lost" island bird species were documented by citizen scientist birders in 2025
Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die.
It's the 2nd of may as I'm writing this, and just in case anyone needs to hear this:
Brushing your teeth 3-4 times a year is still better than nothing. If you promised yourself that you'd do better this year and already fell off the wagon in january, go do it now, even if you can't manage it every day.
Once a week is better than never. Once a month is better than never. Hell, once a year is better than never. If you can't do perfect, better than nothing is better than nothing. Go brush your teeth.
This has inspired me to brush my teeth. Something i dont normally do in the mornings, but know i should
The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.
Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.
So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.
Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.
oh shit
As the OP of this post, I’m going to threaten that if this gets to one million notes by the 10 year anniversary on 1 June 2026, one year from today, I will get a lower back tattoo of the loch ness bear monster.
Y'all know what to do Tumblr.
Oh my god its so close to 1 million
starting to feel like the transandrophobia discourse is mostly happening because "transandrophobia" is kinda a misleading word. it's not about an intersection of transphobia and a supposed "androphobia" (most people talking about transandrophobia do not think men are oppressed) it's an intersection of transphobia and misogyny. the obvious issue there though is that "transmisogyny" is already an existing term that refers to a different intersection of misogyny and transphobia, so you can't just call it that, because the issues mostly lumped into transandrophobia are distinctly different ones from transmisogyny. the issue is i really can't for the life of me think of a more intuitive term for this specific intersection of transphobia and misogyny. input appreciated.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
A few years ago while trying to find ways to commit suicide as painlessly as possible, I came across a PDF of Dr. Paul Quinnett's The Forever Decision. Thinking it might go into actual methods of suicide (I read an article once that actually did that and was trying to find it again) I started to read it, and I think I only got about two pages in before I was crying too much to actually see the words.
I downloaded the PDF to my hard drive and I open it again whenever I'm feeling too suicidal to do much else, but not enough to start booking a ride to the hospital. And every time without fail I only go up to a few pages before backing off and choosing to live another day just because suicide suddenly seems even more unbearable than whatever the hell upset me in the first place.
All the book really does is [I'm pulling a summary from GoodReads here as, again, I've read no more than 5 pages] "discusses the social aspects of suicide, the right to die, anger, loneliness, depression, stress, hopelessness, drug and alcohol abuse, the consequences of a suicide attempt, and how to get help."
But it also starts with the author kindly asking the reader to complete the book before going through with anything, and for some reason I'm compelled to really just try to read it all before finalizing everything. Despite not yet completing it (hopefully never will) I think I can safely say it's saved my life at least a few times now.
It's intentionally legal to copy and redistribute this book to keep it as accessible as possible, and it's very easy to find, but here's a link for it anyways.
Finished Project Hail Mary earlier today and how come nobody told me this was a platonic Orpheus and Eurydice type situation between two alien species? The crew crying as they become the furthest people from earth, the naming of the Integrity crater and that bright spot Carroll after Reid's wife...
I love humanity, I love how we go to the moon and we name that bright spot after someone loved. We name that crater after the little craft that carried them so far.
Something about us being so small, barely making a dent in the universe, but still going with love.
