Orodreth, Gwindor & Finduilas
Valar please help me to finish that and don't give up again I feel my seasonal depression is crawling close already I DON'T WANT TO FALL FOR IT—
Some Orodreth hcs
Healing.
So I was thinking about how I often imagine Finrod with healing skills, because Finrod, but this isn't supported by the silm, and I realized that Orodreth was much more likely to be a healer.
not competent in combat (lost an island to Sauron; did not kill a werewolf; no military victories given; even in the battle when Nargothrond fell he did nothing of note… I mean he did try, that's good. I'm not criticizing his morals, just his skills)
not competent in tactics (the. bridge.)
C&C didn't respect him
nice
seemingly had no issue with the Elves of Nargothrond being sneaky poison-users, which also feels like a healer thing. I mean, healers do know many poisons, by necessity.
So. Orodreth was a healer, either as his main skill or at least one of the things he was good at.
How to fit Gil-Galad as his son, ie why would he send Gil-Galad to Cirdan and keep Finduilas at home?
I still prefer Gg son of Fingon but anyway let's think about the alternative. I would let Orodreth have a not-yet-dead wife, and let his wife be a Noldo-Teler mix, kin of Cirdan, but also quite Noldorin temperament.
So C&C scare the whole city, and the people of Nargothrond move to ninja tactics, and then Orodreth is restored to the throne but he keeps the ninja tactics… I think they have an argument. I think she takes their son and leaves (not as dramatically as Feanor, but still, it's not entirely polite). She won't have the prince stay here with the cowards, she's going to her granduncle (or whatever Cirdan is).
And I imagine Finduilas is much more like her father, and so she stays.
Hmm, also earlier, the 10 years when C&C were there, she (I need to think of a name someday) would provoke them and argue with them (they murdered her close kin after all) and Finrod would diffuse it and Orodreth would sulk.
(I respect Orodreth, ok? He's just bad with confrontations. Just like me.)
Good fic material for someone who likes writing OCs and family dramas, not just philosophy going brrr XD [feel free to take this idea and run with it anywhere you like]
And yea, the wife lives and is there to help Gil-Galad make decisions (mothers are rarely mentioned in the text so it's not really against the canon) and sails after his death. Or dies in one of the battles earlier, maybe even in the War of Wrath. I want her to die in a battle, or to live. She's a fierce warrior.
I don't care if Orodreth has a canon wife in some niche note, everything around Gil-Galad is a mess and I refuse to accept it as canon.
and a jellybean for @elyksina
alright where are you all sitting
Orodreth and:
1: Celegorm "when being impudent means being happy for you"
2: his wife. BC I adore them despite the fact she didn't even have a name in lore.
3: Beleg. Drawn for LOTR ask, so. "What questions do you have for Beleg? He literally stole Resto and now is running on the grass".
Resto is a long-lost Disney prince. I know it. Now you know it.
Share that fact.
We must know who they hid from us.
Aight besties I’m politely asking that everyone drops everything they know about Orodreth in my ask box/in a reblog/in the chat/ whatever, please please pretty please. It’s for fic purposes
coffeeshop!AU Orodreth
bc I wanted him like that
there's more memes about such a modern AU, but Idc if I'd try to do more
maybe it'll be left like that ❤️❤️ just a pic and nothing more to show
an attempt at drawing almost every named character in the silmarillion (minus a bunch of Men characters bc i didnt have designs for them, as well as assorted minor elves like salgant or elenmire + the valar and most maiar cuz im still redesigning them) 😙
been really busy these past months but i worked on this on and off in-between (you can see a process gif here!!). since ive got a bit of free time for now, ill try to get back to being more active :D sorry for disappearing out of the blue again but happy almost half a year... wait wdym we're almost halfway through 2025 already...?!?! ToT
been going insane about orodreth recently. he never wanted to be king. he was never equipped to lead nargothrond, much less while still grieving the death of his brother. he knew he was a placeholder, a band-aid on the bullethole of the inevitable assault of morgoth. he knew he was the lesser son of finarfin, the discount finrod, the one everyone’s eyes swept over. it was a relief to him when túrin came, despite half his council arguing against his battle plans—he wanted someone to tell him how to fight, how to rule, how to be what finrod was, what he never could be. he died nameless in a melee as nargothrod came toppling down around him, a ghost ruler of a city he had never been meant to have.
Do you think there’s a direct link between Orodreth not sending a single soldier to the Nirnaeth (like dude. Even Gondolin showed up.) and letting himself be convinced to build that bridge two decades later? How he went from so extremely cautious to much too reckless? Do you think he saw how the Nirnaeth ended (in defeat like he predicted, only so much worse) and felt guilt that he hadn’t even tried? Do you think he saw the consequences of Morgoth’s victory and knew that he could have done something to stop it? That he tells himself they’d still have lost and Nargothrond would’ve been no more if they’d joined the fight, but it doesn’t matter what he tells himself because he’ll never know if he could’ve made a difference, so the guilt eats him alive. That when he takes Turin in he doesn’t see only this one Man, but rather all Morgoth’s victims since the Nirnaeth. That perhaps he feels that Turin's misfortune, like all the others’, is blood on his own hands. Like he’s now faced (literally) with the consequences of his inaction. That none of it would have happened if only he’d fought, or at least he could have mitigated the damage. And that’s why, when Turin argues so strongly for the bridge, for the offense, Orodreth ignores all other advice? Because it’s Turin. Turin who has lost everything to Morgoth, but might not have if only Nargothrond had fought. Because this is Orodreth’s chance to fight and make right. To stop Morgoth from ravaging the land; to do something good? And how the direct consequence of this decision is Nargothrond’s destruction and the death of everybody he wanted to protect in the first place
because I do
It's important to me, in versions of the story where Orodreth is a son of Finarfin, that he's younger than Galadriel. I don't care that Jolkien says that she's the youngest Finwean grandchild, that guy is nobody's older sibling. Undisputed king of put-upon babies-of-the-family.

'The necklace stays on'
The WIP title of this was "Finrod in red" because Curufin likes that because it symbolizes Curufin's growing influence over Nargothrond (and its king?). Also made 2 alt versions because I'm not Curufin and usually prefer Finrod in blues and greens.
Ok so I've been working on this for like half a year and set myself a deadline to finish this in time for @silmsmutweek when I saw how well it matched some of the prompts, but well…I failed.
But in case it still counts, here is a super late Curufinrod submission for @silmsmutweek - day 6 (complicated relationships, jewellery, hair, politics, oaths)
