Is one allowed to attach links to itch.io tabletop rpgs on Ao3? Specifically, pay what you want games you didn’t make, but inspired your writing?

My initial thought on this is no.

AO3 has a TOS that disallows commercial promotion. Using that link would likely be considered commercial promotion because itch.io is a marketplace, and the purpose of going to that website would be to buy something.

This is one where I'm going to recommend emailing PAC. You can find their form in the site footer, linked under Policy Questions & Abuse Reports. This is a policy question.

PAC will be able to give you a firm answer on whether it's allowed, and they can also help you figure out what you can say to give credit to the game and its creators without accidentally violating the AO3 TOS.

They're very nice people, and I'm sure they like getting questions like this before an issue occurs instead of needing to deal with the issue afterwards 😆
