i can’t stop talking about this but midnights by taylor swift was misunderstood by a lot of people online who thought that it wasn’t thematically cohesive.

it’s an ALMOST concept album. that’s it. it’s an album that you have to imagine through the lens of being up at night and unable to sleep. the songs (mostly) fit pretty neatly into one of three categories. it’s either about a current love (lavender haze, sweet nothing, the great war etc.), an ex (question, maroon, midnight rain etc.) , or about people you hate/want revenge on (karma, vigilante shit etc.) that’s the shit EVERYONE thinks about when theyre trying to fall asleep and can’t.

and even the songs that don’t fit into those categories like anti hero or bigger than the whole sky are 100% can’t sleep thoughts. oh so you hate urself? great. oh you’ve experienced deep undying grief??? it’s a baby concept album. that’s it.

ALSO what holds midnights together is the sonic palette. it SOUNDS like one album. the way she does her synth on the album fits both the concept and runs across everything on it. (except you’re losing me. i love you’re losing me but it doesnt sound like the rest of the album but also it lowkey was her joe alwyn breakup song so)

overall i <3 midnights its my favourite album.

Truly believes in magic. His roommate is a ghost. Captain of the rowing team. Everyone at his fancy private school knows his name, everyone thinks he’s cool but also very very weird. The absolute aura on this guy.
