This is like that time my kid told me that science was for boys and I was like, “You were literally sitting next to me sitting the organic chemistry review. That’s science. I’m a scientist.”
I never saw an unconscious bias change so fast. Not only was science for girls, but she seemed to think we (as in all girls everywhere) were very generous for allowing boys to participate in it from time to time.
The sign of high quality is the fact the book was banned by the government. Trash literature NEVER EVER had any troubles with the law.
FARENHEIT 451 IS ON THE BANNED BOOKS LIST??? IT’S LITERALLY ABOUT THE SOCIETAL DANGERS OF BANNING/OUTLAWING/BURNING BOOKS ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME
That’s the reason it’s on the bloody list.
BECAUSE IT’S ABOUT HOW BANNING AND BURNING BOOKS IS WRONG.
HERE’S ALL THE PDF VERSIONS I COULD FIND SINCE WE’RE ALL IN QUARANTINE AND WE CAN’T PHYSICALLY GET THE BOOKS WE DON’T HAVE
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
The Autobiography of Malcolm X
Beloved
Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (this was the only free version I could find, and it’s a downloadable thing, so do so with caution)
The Call of the Wild
Catch-22 (it was either this version or one where the entire thing was in comic sans font)
The Catcher in the Rye
Fahrenheit 451
For Whom the Bell Tolls
Gone With the Wind
The Grapes of Wrath
The Great Gatsby
Howl
In Cold Blood
Invisible Man
The Jungle (personally I don’t like this formatting, but the site doesn’t look sketchy so…) - there’s also this which is the proper book format in a pdf, but it’s directly photocopied so it might be hard to read some of the print
Leaves of Grass
Moby Dick
Native Son
Our Bodies, Ourselves (we learned about this one in APUSH!)
The Red Badge of Courage
The Scarlet Letter
COULD NOT FIND Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (the ebook is 47 fucking dollars??? and i can’t even find sketchy websites that’ll let me download a pdf. if anyone manages to find a link, lmk please)
Stranger in a Strange Land
A Streetcar Named Desire
Their Eyes Were Watching God
To Kill a Mockingbird
Uncle Tom’s Cabin
Where the Wild Things Are (this is a slideshow!!!! how fun)
COULD NOT FIND The Words of Cesar Chavez (however I did manage to download the first 71 pages of the book from EBSCO and I put it here but I couldn’t get the rest. sorry y’all)
“Salt and Pepper Diner is John Mulaney’s funniest bit” is Xanax/Prostate Exam erasure and I will not stand for it
The overlooking of “The One Thing You Can’t Replace” is a criminal act.
LISTEN, I WAS JUST WATCHING JOHN MULANEY AND I RAISE YOU
HOW COULD YOU NOT SAY DELTA AIRLINES????
Bill Clinton Never Forgets A Bitch, Ever
The responses to this post have been so amazing because it’s reminded me, and I’m sure many others, of just how many hilarious bits John Mulaney has other than s&pd
okay, but eighth graders
….. could be a nursery.
being 12 years old on anotger continent is a great alibi
“Why buy the cow, question mark?”
THAT TALL CHILD LOOKS TERRIBLE
And then. He ordered one black coffee for himself.
And kept driving.
LOOK AT THAT HIGH WAISTED MAN, HE GOT FEMININE HIPS
“We gon play jacks down at the soda fountain”
NOBODY KNOWS WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT YOU IDIOT
Y'know, how you talk to your grandma?
hello? HUSH
Eat ass, suck a dick, and sell drugs.
The comments are just a list of a hundred different bits that made everybody laugh, and that’s how you know John Mulaney is a legend in his own time.
Kills me. Every time.
“I was raised Catholic in case you couldn’t tell from the everything about me”
“college was like a 4 year game show called ‘do my friends hate me, or do I just need to go to sleep?’ but instead of winning money, you lose 120,000 dollars”
“You still have a lot of time to make yourself be what you want.”
— S.E. Hinton
Roses are red, that much is true, but violets are purple, not fucking blue.
I have been waiting for this post all my life.
They are indeed purple, But one thing you’ve missed: The concept of “purple” Didn’t always exist.
Some cultures lack names For a color, you see. Hence good old Homer And his “wine-dark sea.”
A usage so quaint, A phrasing so old, For verses of romance Is sheer fucking gold.
So roses are red. Violets once were called blue. I’m hugely pedantic But what else is new?
My friend you’re not wrong About Homer’s wine-ey sea! Colours are a matter Of cultural contingency;
Words are in flux And meanings they drift But the word purple You’ve given short shrift.
The concept of purple, My friends, is old And refers to a pigment once precious as gold.
By crushing up molluscs From the wine-dark sea You make a dye: Imperial decree
Meant that in Rome, to wear purpura was a privilege reserved
For only the emperor!
The word ‘purple’, for clothes so fancy, Entered English By the ninth century
.
Why then are voilets Not purple in song? The dye from this mollusc, known for so long
Is almost magenta; More red than blue. The concept of purple is old, and yet new.
The dye is red, So this might be true: Roses are purple And violets are blue
.
While this song makes me merry, Tyrian purple dyes many a hue From magenta to berry And a true purple too.
But fun as it is to watch this poetic race The answer is staring you right in the face: Roses are red and violets are blue Because nothing fucking rhymes with purple.
Hirple - To limp or walk awkwardly
Cirple - An old Scots word for the hindquarters of a horse
“Roses are red, violets are purple,
My boner for you has caused me to hirple.”
…
My, how romantic!
DYING. I AM DYING.
Calling theshitpostcalligrapher! We need @theshitpostcalligrapher
@kiranovember u better buy this as a commission lmao
This post has evolved.
I am 100 percent all for every part of this thread. I have laughed loudly and long. Thank you, thou glorious purple-hirple rhyme.
@sebastianstansjawline @captaindibbzy I feel you would delight in this
this is why i’m still on tumblr. where else can i get this caliber of wonderful, magical, batshit weirdness
family members: “so…are you seeing anyone?”
me:
look, if you cannot be in public barefaced without being self-conscious & feeling like shit, then your decision to wear makeup is not a choice freely made
Max is one of the most relatable characters in Stranger Things because when a girl she barely even talks to just showed up at her door asking for advice, girl went so hard. Not only did she give her advice, she was like “babe we’re gonna go get you a whole new wardrobe, get ice cream and do a photo shoot. Fuck your man.” She was literally the equivalent of a drunk girl finding another girl crying in a bathroom
Him: yeah, suck that dick
Me, has authority issues: you boutta suck your own dick if you don’t shut up

DONT YOU KNOW KOREAN oh snap
Rebloging to again add:
Seriously, it’s easy to just see this as pro-women. But it is so very much more.
I adore my homeland, but let’s be real. The very very vast majority of violent crimes that are reported are against women. This is not some sudden nor recent thing, either. South Korea ranks 117 of 142 countries for gender equality - even the wage gap is absolutely absurd. Women are literally dragged into nightclubs by staff to attract men. Nearly 90% of violent crime reports are women. Accusing a rapist is often met with defamation suits. Criticizing the police and government for failing to take this problem seriously similarly encounters resistance, legal action, and social ostracism. Mothers out of wedlock are often forced to have abortions by their family on threat of being disowned - and are often disowned afterwards regardless. Children of unwed parents can find great difficulty finding employment.
THIS IS NOT JUST A MOMENT OF ATTITUDE AND EMPOWERMENT.
From an asian perspective, especially a Korean one, this is a revolutionary and violent response to the misogynistic attitude in South Korean and much of Asia.
Where westerners are seeing something to cheer with a smile, I see something to cheer with a fist in the air. My sisters in Korea are literally facing rape, exclusion, and death simply for being my sisters.
Yes, please be thrilled to see this sort of thing. Absolutely! But please understand the culture this comes from is very different from your experiences.

I love how the body structure and the decor of the larger bone fairy creates a nice area of concentration that leads the viewer’s eye towards the tooth fairy. This, aside from the obvious glow and design contrast, help direct the attention where needed and is a brilliant move by the artist.
I went to the artist’s website and they are the same one who made this:

This is probably the cutest
