it's not that I need a quiet day or a day off exactly; it's that I need a pocket of time that exists entirely outside of linear time as we know it that would allow me to get things done without time passing in the real world, and frankly, I don't think that's too much to ask.
honestly it’s kind of upsetting how much of the autism experience is just being shamed out expressing yourself in any way that’s normal for you and learning to keep everything to yourself so you’re not shamed for being weird and then being shamed for being so quiet because it’s also weird to be quiet but if you tell this to anyone else they’ll say “why do you care so much what people think” and that’s when the ancient ape part of your brain gets ready to beat them to death

In one of my film classes last semester we had to tell a story in 3 pictures for a mini assignment so my friend and I did this
Happy 10 year anniversary to this post!
When Everything Everywhere All at Once said “The only thing I do know is that we have to be kind. Please, be kind, especially when we don’t know what’s going on"
When the Good Place said “Why choose to be good every day when there is no guaranteed reward now or in the afterlife… I argue that we choose to be good because of our bonds with other people and our innate desire to treat them with dignity. Simply put, we are not in this alone.”
When Jean-Paul Sartre said ”‘Hell is other people’ is only one side of the coin. The other side, which no one seems to mention, is also ‘Heaven is each other’. Hell is separateness, uncommunicability, self-centeredness, lust for power, for riches, for fame. Heaven on the other hand is very simple, and very hard: caring about your fellow beings.“
Not every story is about seeing yourself in it. Sometimes it’s about learning to see other people too.
@tearyeyedcat this was beautifully written, thank you for adding it!
Another excuse for me to post Head Writer of ATLA Aaron Ehasz’s great characters board:
I'M CRUCIFIED, CRUCIFIED LIKE MY SAVIOUR SAINTLIKE BEHAVIOUR, A LIFETIME I PRAYED
every day of my life i read someone being like “why doesn’t this story just solve the problem immediately and casually? they just drag it out and make it an issue” well. because that’s the Story

Reblogging this three times in a row? Take a deep breath and take care of yourself!
idk what neurodivergent young adult needs to hear this but you are NOT supposed to give 100% at your job. I've gotten more promotions and raises since I started giving 40-60%, which my evil CEO uncle informed me is what bosses actually expect when they say 110%. My mental health has improved tremendously. I've spent 2 out of 5 workdays secretly writing my novel for the last 2 years and I've never been more respected and appreciated. Also--when you see glaring wasteful errors in the company's operating systems, say absolutely nothing! Embrace inefficiency. It is your friend in this capitalist hellscape.
This neurodivergent non young adult needed this reminder today. Been feeling like a slacker for not killing myself for work lately and like yeah. That’s how it’s supposed to be. Right. Thank you.
This is why Pride is not just a party. It's a joyful celebration, but it's also a pointed and colourful two-finger salute to a world that stood back whilst so many of us died. And we'll never go quietly, never again.
mind palace that was formerly a palace until the ruling family was killed mercilessly for its crimes. and now it's the thinking woman's socialist republic.
“You save me!”
“Yes. I caught the Taumoeba in time. I still have fuel. Set up the tunnel. Im taking you to Erid.”
“You save me and you save Erid!” He squeaks.
if you're a trans woman it is very important that you're friends with people who are interested in living and living well. Find gym rats, painters, academics, devoted gardeners, gourmands, cinephiles, audiophiles, wine snobs, fashionistas... anyone who is deeply devoted to something in life, that fascinates them, brings them peace, and compels them to live. Learn from them, ask them to show you what's so good about ____. Imagine yourself as one of those anime slice of life characters who've learned that they can be satisfied (fulfilled even) with life as long as they pursue their love of __. The world is full of so much misery for us, and so many of us let that misery and hatred eat away at us until we're depressed, angry shells of people. Refuse that, choose life, choose learning how to live well. Choose enriching your senses by training them.
