Jeremy is learning French, and he and Jean start speaking it. Jean corrects his pronunciation, and Jeremy shows him his progress.
Jeremy tells Jean the vocabulary he learned that day.
And Jeremy says:
"I've learned more words and expressions. Mon amour?"
Jean stares at him, frozen. Jeremy is delighted by Jean's expression of astonishment. He senses a hint of curiosity and longing in his eyes.
Jeremy moves a little closer, testing the waters. Never intrusively. Jean doesn't complain. Jeremy smiles.
"Mom coeur?"
Jean closes his eyes for a second and takes a deep breath.
"Am I saying it right, mon cheri?"
Jean raises his hand and immediately covers Jeremy's mouth. Jeremy continues smiling, his hand in his own.
"Damn it."
But Jean never tells him to shut up.

sometimes i wonder if andrew sometimes tests neil. not because he needs to, but to prove to himself that neil will actually listen.
listen i get this compulsion sometimes, to make sure everything is real and what i remember it to be. sometimes its reasonable, sometimes its not. all the same though it has to be proved before i can move on.
so, andrew makes neil sleep on the floor for a week in the summer before his senior year. at the columbia house. neil doesn't complain, doesn't ask why or to switch places. he curls up on the cool wooden floor with a spare blanket and has the nerve to smile up at andrew who's watching him from the safety of the elevated bed.
he smiles like he's grateful for this, to be given a chance to sleep on the floor next to andrew. he smiles like he's been handed a gift the equivalent of the sun incarnated in the form of the hard boards digging into his shoulders.
but andrew needs to prove this, he needs to know that neil's quiet following of his rules won't break at the first crash. so he continues; he lets his apathy shroud his care for the red haired menace.
but at the end of the week, the bags under neil's eyes are just a tad bit deeper; the twitching of his hands a bit more prominent. the hardness of the floor probably reminds him of his time on the run, making sleep harder to find and grasp, andrew thinks.
after this, he'll never make neil sleep on the floor again, even if it means he himself ends up in his place. he refuses to let his choices be the one to hurt neil, even if its willing on neil's part. and he keeps to his self promise
meanwhile neils pov is like: andrew wants me to sleep on the floor for until he says so. he probably wants to keep me in his vision and make sure im safe, he wants me sooooooo bad
(bros too busy being giddy over andrew caring to care really about the floor)
i have this theory that jean's big cathartic moment at the end of tgr when he breaks down and admits he didn't deserve the sexual abuse he experienced is actually preceded by a more subtle version of this moment, one made possible by the fact that it involves the only other person who can understand what he's been through. when andrew realizes that neil could have been similarly abused at evermore, he asks jean to confirm or deny it. jean tells him that it would not have been an appropriate punishment for neil, and andrew, clearly shaken and unimpressed with this answer, presses the issue, asking what circumstances would have made it appropriate. it is jean's response to this that i find most revealing: he says, "you of all people should not have to ask." yes, this is a pointed reference to andrew's own experiences with sexual abuse, but what is jean actually saying? i think he's saying, "you of all people should know there is nothing that could possibly justify it. of course there isn't. but your abusers will tell you there is, and you'll believe them because how else can you make sense of what is happening to you." after he says this, jean digs a thumb into andrew's wrist and drags it up his forearm, where he knows from riko that andrew has self-harm scars. this is him driving home the point, saying "you've had to do things to survive too." because that's what jean's deep-seated conviction of "deserving it" isā a survival mechanism. and at the end of tgr, he finally feels safe enough to let it go.

Neil sat to the side watching him, all three of their eyes watering and Andrew keeps grinding his teeth and snapping āYou can LEAVE you know,ā but all three refuse like their lives depend on just watching Andrew and being a pain in his ass
Andrew would be a catch and release type of guy when it comes to all bugs btw. no way this man sees a wasp who has the ability to defend herself and is like āshe is evil for doing so and must dieā
this might be a controversial opinion but. i have seen the song āweāll never have sexā by leith ross on one too many andreil playlists. in fact, i donāt think it should be on any andreil playlists. to be clear, this is not a judgement of the song itself. itās a beautiful song, and iāve been moved to tears while listening to it. however, that song features someone expressing their desire to engage in physical intimacy that is not building up to sex, and how appreciative they are that their partner is happy to do that. when people associate this song with andreil, i assume itās in reference to andrewās complicated relationship with sex and the patience with which neil is willing to navigate it. but the lyrics of the song are antithetical to canon in two major ways. first off, andrew is touch-averse, and doesnāt engage in much non-sexual physical intimacy (i know people have been making the case lately that he actually is tactile because he is sometimes tactile with neilā¦.and no. to reference my goat @andrewminyard-josten again, andrewās behavior toward neil cannot be used as metric for his general behavior, because neil is an exception to it. and even then, we do not see him asking neil to engage in non-sexual physical intimacy). second, itās not that andrew doesnāt want to have sex, itās that his trauma makes it difficult for himā which is a very important distinction. the beauty of him and neilās relationship is that for the first time, he trusts someone enough to try to push his own boundaries, to work up to having sex in the way most people can. thereās a critical moment at the end of tkm when, upon learning the true extent of andrew's sexual trauma, neil asks how he can stand to do anything physical with him, and andrew, displeased to be having this conversation, explains that it's because he trusts neil to respect a "no." all this to say, i think in a scenario like the one this song evokes, aka neil reassuring andrew that their relationship would not be endangered if he never wanted to have sex, andrew would be genuinely offended. because like. yes. but that's not the case here. the best thing neil can (and does) do for andrew is to trust him to know his own desires, to treat him as the autonomous sexual being that he is.

Everyone loves Rooafzah. It's a cultural icon.
I think it's disgusting. I hated it. I was like the only 6 year old at the club (read: friend's birthday party) who wouldn't touch the stuff. Loathing isn't even a strong enough word. I think Rooafzah is gross. Sorry. It's awful. It's popular because it looks absolutely stunning and god i really WISH i liked it because just freaking look at it. It looks magical.
