Dongria Kondh Tribe, Odhisa. Also known as 'The real Avatar Tribe', Yes, the 2009 multi billion blockbuster film Avatar made by James Cameron was based on the struggle and culture this tribal group. It was threatened few years ago because of a mining industry project. In 2006, A British private mining company Vedanta set up a factory in Lanjigarg to extract Bauxite with partnership as a joint venture to Odhisa Mining Corporation. The openpit mining and refinery caused negative impact on the environment, the Brown residual liquid polluted the streams of this tribal homeland. Deforestation occurred and many new diseases among locals erupted. Dongria gather almost 200 different foods from their forests and harvest over a hundred crops from their fields. They follow Sarna relegion and speak Kui language. If their lands would be misused the whole community can be threatened for survival in few more years, and with capitalism exploitation comes inevitably. The tribe vowed to save their Niyamgiri Hills and their self-sufficient way of life. So In 2013 the Supreme Court of India ordered the Odisha Government to consult the local tribespeople, citing the protection afforded to the rights of tribal and forest groups under the Forest Rights Act 2006. There's a huge discussion on the topic "Reservation for Scheduled Tribes." Reservation in India is the process of facilitating a person in education, scholarship, jobs, and in promotions who has category certificates. Reservation is a form of quota-based affirmative action. It aims to uplift the tribals so that they could also become a part of mainstream culture. They were oppressed and kept away from the mainstream, because of Casteism, which dates since 2nd century B.C. After Independence, B.R. Ambedkar agreed to reservation because, Tribals were the people who lived in forests and worshipped the mother earth (p.s. Religion should not be confused with Caste, every citizen of India has their own right to choose their desired religion, but caste is biologically inherited) So for the small communities of tribals, their land and language is the heritage. Education system totally differs In their lifestyle. Today after 71 years of independence, even though we have reservations for education but the tribal people working in the industry is still comparatively less. Comment if you feel something is missing or something is wrong. A discussion open to all. Laal Paad Saree, worn by tribal women across states of East and North-East in India. It's a feature of our tribal outlook. The colour red on white symbolises royalty and purity. Photo credit @aadivimbtrust #tribalrights #tribalculture #laalpaadsaree
Happy Independence Day. A collaboration on concept of Independence, by @ranchi_waala @nayna_dungdung and @ace4ekka We are too glad to say that our tribal people are coming up with creative and strong contents. The emotions and the understanding of Art is above par in the tribals, as they've been living close to the nature. Since centuries they been trying to understand the signs given by the mother earth, hence adopting a very Sustainable Lifestyle. Tribal Rights. A page to promote and uplift the Scheduled Tribes of India who've been facing injustice, oppression and exploitation since centuries. "A tribe is a social group of a simple kind, the member of which speak a common dialect, have a single government, and act together for such common purposes as war."(Padma Shri S.S. Shashi) The aim is to show their sustainable lifestyle and the diversity in cultures. From folk-lores, to modern day situation, trivias to stereotypes, everything will be covered in this page. Focusing on the nationwide Scheduled Tribes culture, and propagating it globally. The photograph is of Tribal kids (Munda Tribe) from Ghaghra, Jharkhand, were kids are moving out boarding schools for education, as it's challenging in the remote villages, also the area affected by Naxalites. #tribalrights #tribalculture #jharkhand #indians #incredibleindia #beinghuman #instagram
