Even if the US government actually did try to do a real, effective lockdown and wasn’t just pissing in the wind of our fragmented nightmare of state and local governments, I’m entirely convinced it still wouldn’t work since this shithole country is full to the tits with literally the worst people the human race has ever produced who will fight every fucking public health ordinance put in place for their god-given right to yell at waiters and retail staff maskless. I mean where I live (California) a shitty little town near me just declared that it seceded from the state so they wouldn’t have to follow our (flimsy as fuck) state COVID regulations. I simply can’t stress enough how this pandemic is being indefinitely prolonged by America (and american manufacturers) hoarding vaccines. This could have been over now, but we refused to help India when they were in desperate need of vaccines, so the Delta variant popped up there. Then Pfizer tried to bleed South Africa dry of anything and everything valuable they have down there before doing anything to help the population, and now we have the Omicron variant.

And people in America still act morally superior for not taking the very vaccines they’ve been hoarding! Like jfc just have some compassion how fucking hard is it

I’ve seen a number of good activist write-ups on this correctly pointing out that the protests last summer are literally called the George Floyd Revolution and that this conviction is the system circling the wagons, trying to basically pin all racism on Chauvin and/or that particular police department, so that policing as a system can more or less continue as is.

It took massive nation and worldwide protests just to get the conviction of one cop.

That’s not justice. That’s not even a tiny step in the right direction of systemic reform.
