There's a way to remove it~
Go into the power shell
then paste in:
reg add HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsCopilot /v "TurnOffWindowsCopilot" /t REG_DWORD /f /d 1
like this
Then restart. Also here is how to turn off the awful search suggestions:
Stop the OS from pulling up web results when you just want files and apps.
incase anyone didnt know there's some great free software to handle disabling windows bloatware without needing to mess with the command line
With the freeware O&O ShutUp10++, unwanted Windows 10 and 11 features can be disabled and the transfer of sensitive personal data onto Micro
O&O AppBuster gives you the control back over your Windows again! Now you decide which apps you want on your computer.
these are a mandatory part of every windows install for me. been using them for years and it's such a lifesaver
Because this has mostly been talked about with Windows 11, heads-up that this installed itself on every Windows 10 computer in our house with this week's update.
Edit: This appears to only apply to Copilot+, not regular Copilot (which is what hit my Windows 10 pcs). Still not a bad idea to axe Copilot anyway.
I'm a big fan of wizards-as-programmers, but I think it's so much better when you lean into programming tropes.
A spell the wizard uses to light the group's campfire has an error somewhere in its depths, and sometimes it doesn't work at all. The wizard spends a lot of his time trying to track down the exact conditions that cause the failure.
The wizard is attempting to create a new spell that marries two older spells together, but while they were both written within the context of Zephyrus the Starweaver's foundational work, they each used a slightly different version, and untangling the collisions make a short project take months of work.
The wizard has grown too comfortable reusing old spells, and in particular, his teleportation spell keeps finding its components rearranged and remixed, its parts copied into a dozen different places in the spellbook. This is overall not actually a problem per se, but the party's rogue grows a bit concerned when the wizard's "drying spell" seems to just be a special case of teleportation where you teleport five feet to the left and leave the wetness behind.
A wizard is constantly fiddling with his spells, making minor tweaks and changes, getting them easier to cast, with better effects, adding bells and whistles. The "shelter for the night" spell includes a tea kettle that brings itself to a boil at dawn, which the wizard is inordinately pleased with. He reports on efficiency improvements to the indifference of anyone listening.
A different wizard immediately forgets all details of his spells after he's written them. He could not begin to tell you how any of it works, at least not without sitting down for a few hours or days to figure out how he set things up. The point is that it works, and once it does, the wizard can safely stop thinking about it.
Wizards enjoy each other's company, but you must be circumspect about spellwork. Having another wizard look through your spellbook makes you aware of every minor flaw, and you might not be able to answer questions about why a spell was written in a certain way, if you remember at all.
Wizards all have their own preferences as far as which scripts they write in, the formatting of their spellbook, its dimensions and material quality, and of course which famous wizards they've taken the most foundational knowledge from. The enlightened view is that all approaches have their strengths and weaknesses, but this has never stopped anyone from getting into a protracted argument.
Sometimes a wizard will sit down with an ancient tome attempting to find answers to a complicated problem, and finally find someone from across time who was trying to do the same thing, only for the final note to be "nevermind, fixed it".
"This spell causes the hair to fall off cats." "It works with my tome"
"This spell causes the hair to fall off cats." "That's fixed in Xaranthius' latest publication, you just have to rewrite your entire spellbook for compatibility."
"This spell causes the hair to fall of cats." "Magister Olaus of Writhington uses it to help with his allergies. WORKING AS INTENDED."
I want to see wizards snarking at each other over different magical languages/scripts, the same way programmers do it over different languages.
Sure, "High Tower is a powerful language, but it's such a pain to write. I just use Unity* as it's simple to write and can do nearly everything I need" "cranky because you can't memorize all the conjugations and declensions, aren't you?" "LOOK MAN, I CAN MEMORIZE ANYTHING, INCLUDING THE FACE OF YOUR MOTHER IN ECSTASY. IN FACT, BEHOLD!" *a little time window appears between them, demonstrating exactly that. The first wizard (seen through the window) turns around and winks at the "camera".
"you kids today with your lizardman. How can you get anything done in a language without gendered pronouns? It's like fingerpainting. Sure you can learn on it but once you've got the basics you should switch over to a REAL language"
"the Kalic have been here already. We better get out before the rest of their army marches in." "how can you be sure?" "you see that teleport?" "no" "well, if you COULD see it, you'd see it's written in Adevic Yevi. That's the Kalic magic language." "couldn't it be someone else? We saw those Monon traders, maybe one of them..." "no. No one writes Adevic Yevi unless they're being paid to. It's a language written by committee."
Wizards going on a quest to get the spellbooks for a lost spell, only to find out that it was written in skydove cant. No one can read that shit! The creator must have been one of those weird "functional wizards". (They're obsessed with making sure their spells have no side effects)
There's a small library on the outskirts of Freeport which tries to collect versions of basic spells in every language. The Adevic Yevi version of "fireball" takes up 7 pages, mostly boilerplate setting up the interfaces with fire and explosions and ExplodingMagicalBallFactorySingletons. The Lizardman version is basically "AHAHAHA, YOU GO BOOM!"
There's a bunch of wizard apprentices working on porting an old "Summon Bread and Fishes" spell from the absolutely archaic language it was written in. Once it's in Unity, it'll be easy to modify and teach to more wizards, which'll obviously be good for disaster areas. It's just too expensive to keep paying the ancient guys who can still do magic in TRAN-FOR.
Eccentric wizards keep inventing new languages for spells. You look at them and they're neat, but it'll never catch on. And either you're right, or the next time you're applying to be a court wizard, the advisors want to know if you have at least 5 years experience in Tilted Runic and you're like "it only came out 2 years ago!" "aren't you a chronomancer?" "oh good point. Yeah I've been using it for 20-30 years."
There's wizards who will spend incredible amounts of time doing silly things with spells in strange ways. There's this guy (Vorth) who made his own language where there's only one basic spell: fireball. Everything else is basic magic glue tying multiple fireballs together. So like, he's got a breakfast spell. Stand back (good advice for all his spells), and you'll see a fish get knocked out of the local pond, flung through the air by successive explosions, and eventually it lands on his plate, nicely cooked and deboned, if slightly charred (the glass of milk is harder to explain). His magical door locks involve a quicksilver sphere and molten lead changing shape when heated... It's tricky but it seems to work. He's working on a teleport spell, but so far it's mainly just killed test subjects (primarily sheep from a nearby farm).
* so the funny thing here is that this isn't a reference to the unity game engine. The main country in my One Hundred and One Magical Pistols setting is called "the union" and their language is called "unity".
It's wands vs staves vs bare hands.
Wanders are like "they're available everywhere and once you learn how to do it it's so powerful!"
Staffguys always talk about how you can do ANYTHING with a staff. Wanders claim it's a pain to carry around an overpowered device that can do ANYTHING when you just need to cast fireball or a simple one man teleport.
Meanwhile the bare wizards are showing off how they don't need any magical tools and can just do hand motions.
Wanders and staffguys retort that when a spell goes wrong, THEY need to go to store for a new magical tool. YOU need new hands.
you’re doing a good job. even if no one notices, you’re doing a damn good job.
i'm sure you'll see this. i want you to know i'm proud of you. :)
right ok hello !! so I couldn't contain my hype and made some adhd creature reactions !!! yes they are best friends

Confirmed creature post
When I was a (unmedicated, undiagnosed ADHD) kid, like, under 12, my room was a mess all the time. Not shocking.
I struggled keeping it clean.
I struggled getting it clean.
I would sincerely put in quite a bit of effort and be really proud of the progress I made. Then one of my parents would come check and see how I was doing.
"Well, you've still got a long way to go."
That sentence. I was like, 11 when my parents were saying that to me. It was crushing. All my pride and satisfaction with my work was completely gone. All my effort was worthless to them. All they saw what everything I didn't do.
At the age of ELEVEN, I knew that wasn't right. That wasn't fair. I swore to myself I would never invalidate someone's work like that.
Now, at 30, I catch myself thinking 'I cleaned up, but my apartment is still so messy.' and I flashback to standing in my bedroom as a child, hearing those fucking words from my parents.
'No. I wouldn't invalidate someone else's work. I'm not going to invalidate my own. I did good. I made progress.' and I'll list the things that I DID get done to myself.
You deserve credit for all the progress you make.
You deserve credit for all the work you do.
It doesn't matter how much work you have left.
What you accomplish, no matter how small, counts. Even when what you accomplished was taking a day to rest and recharge and give yourself a break.
Never let anyone invalidate your work. Not even you.
so matt's absolutely giving scorched earth orders behind the scenes right. Not only are publically visible transfems dropping like flies, but every third person who musters up the audacity to comment negatively on Staff or Matt about this vanishes fucking instantly
Wuhoh this is quickly catching on. If I'm deactivated anytime soon, it's cuz I got nuked. I'm not going down without a fight. Y'all remember that.
someone reblog this version for posterity. If the only copy is on my blog, that vanishes with me. I honestly doubt i'll get smote but better safe than sorry yeah? I'll be fine, but if I'm not, I'm making sure the crime scene is as damning as it gets.
If you live in the EU are or an EU citizen and your account gets deleted for any reason you think isn't justified, please consider doing the following:
1. Make sure to collect evidence of what happened on your end.
2. Contact Tumblr support and tell them you are requesting your data under the GDPR and that as part of the request you want them to state what specific personal data they collected justified the deletion of your account. If they refuse to do either, state that they are under a legal obligation to provide this data to you, that they should forward your request to and put you in contact with their "Data Protections Officer", and that if they do not comply, you will alert the relevant "Data Protection Authority".
3. If in step 2 they showed evidence of some kind of discrimination or did not furnish reasonable information, or you suspect they are lying, do the following: Find either the data protection authority (DPA) of your country of residence or that of Ireland (may be a better choice if your government discriminates against queer people) on the EU website, on the website of the DPA you should be able to find guidance on how to submit a complaint. Try to follow their guidelines but also make sure that in your complaint you state that: your account was unjustifiably deleted, what measures you took under step 2, and what Tumblr responded with.
Basically your goal with the above should be to get Tumblr to show that they either had no reason to delete your account or discriminated against you when deleting it. With substantiated claims, the DPA can essentially force the company to fix their behaviour (reinstate your account) and if there is a pattern, the DPA may fine the company. You can also usually claim monetary compensation (including for e.g emotional damage) for such discrimination or other violations of the GDPR in small claims or similar court (contact a lawyer in your jurisdiction, there are quite a few that offer consumers advice who don't charge fees unless you win compensation).
If you live in the EU are or an EU citizen and your account gets deleted for any reason you think isn't justified, please consider doing the
So, there's apparently research coming out now about microplastics being found in people's bloodstreams and the possible negative effects of that and I feel the need to get out ahead of the wave of corporate sponsored "be sure to recycle your bottles!" or "ban glitter!" campaigns and remind everyone: It's fishing nets. It's fishing nets. It is overwhelming fishing nets It always has been fishing nets. Unless regulations are changed, it will continue to be fishing nets. The plastic in the ocean in largely discarded nets from industrial fishing. The microplastics are the result of these nets breaking down. The "trash islands" are also, you guessed it. Mostly fishing nets and other discarded fishing industry equipment. Do not allow them to continue to twist the story. Do not come after disabled people who require single use plastics. Do not come after people using glitter in art projects and makeup. These things make up a negligible amount of the issue compared to corporate waste, specifically in the fishing industry. Do not let them shift the blame to the individual so they can continue to destroy the planet and our bodies without regulation.
“lol Arthur Conan Doyle clearly didn’t know anything about drugs. Sherlock Holmes did cocaine but it calmed him down. That’s not how cocaine works!”
There are two options: Arthur Conan Doyle had never met someone addicted to cocaine or he met some with ADHD who was addicted to cocaine
#you cannot convince me sherlock 'i don't see a use for this common knowledge i shall forget it immediately' holmes wasn't adhd as hell #sherlock 'if i have nothing to do for a day i will literally start shooting the walls out of boredom' holmes #sherlock 'i have built a perfect wax replica of myself - why? iunno' holmes
He specifically took drugs when he didn't have a case to occupy himself, that man was ADHD as fuck
ACD was a practicing doctor and ship's surgeon during the period where cocaine was routinely used as medicine and described by medical journals as "the blessed instrument of Christ," so not only is there exactly zero chance that he'd never met anyone addicted to cocaine, he also almost certainly administered cocaine to people.
It's also definitely not a stretch at all to say he'd probably met people who self-medicated with cocaine to deal with what we'd now call ADHD. Like, the second ever Sherlock Holmes story begins with Watson protesting Holmes' overuse of cocaine, and Holmes replying that he needs it to deal with his overactive brain -- it's entirely plausible that ACD had had that exact conversation with someone or multiple someones.
Like, the man had been a ship's surgeon. On a whaling ship. The number one place in Victorian times to find men who either couldn't get or couldn't hold down work elsewhere. He was almost certainly extremely familiar with a pretty broad spectrum of neurodivergence and self-medication thereof, even if medical science didn't yet have the terminology to apply to it.
Not only did ACD probably have this conversation with someone in real life, he clearly knew and understood how dangerous cocaine was.
At a time when cocaine was regularly administered by other doctors, Doyle wrote Watson to have a clear aversion and dislike of the drug and understood that it was bad for you. It’s written as a clear indication that Sherlock, despite all his brilliance and genius, is still a human being who can make very bad decisions for himself.
Not only that, but Watson does ultimately win and gets Sherlock off of his addition to cocaine in the end. It takes him a while, but Sherlock is weened off the drug and this is seen as a good thing for everyone involved. In fact in a later story Watson comes home and sees a needle and fears that Sherlock might’ve had a relapse (he didn’t, the needle was just being used for something else involving a case).
Doyle knew what he was doing. He wasn’t writing it as an endorsement or as an indication that Sherlock knew better than Watson. It’s made very clear in the books that Sherlock is highly limited in a lot of ways that Watson is not. Watson was a skilled physician and both he and ACD knew cocaine was not good for someone like Holmes.
Conan Doyle was hyperfixated on history and very mad his excited infodumping historical fiction didn't get the attention the Holmes stories did. He wrote bestselling serialized novels and short stories (that all tend to follow a specific structure) while full time practicing medicine, and by all accounts had a Holmes-like way of Noticing Fucking Everything.
He had a clear disdain for social convention while understanding deeply how to conform to it in order to survive; a lot of Holmes' deductions actually depend on assumptions about typical human behavior in a given situation rather than physical evidence alone. It's the kind of encyclopedic conscious knowledge of unwritten social rules you might develop in order to mask successfully.
He was almost certainly neurodivergent himself. There's a reason classic Holmes fans tend to be Like That. Game recognize game.
Reblog this if you support sex-averse and sex-repulsed aces, including:
Aces who never want to have sex
Aces who had sex in the past but don't desire it anymore
Aces with sexual trauma who feel like their trauma ties into their asexuality
Aces with sexual trauma who don't feel like their trauma caused their asexuality
Aces who don't want to talk to you about sex
Aces who don't want to hear about sex
Yes even aces who do not want to engage with any sexual content and don't want it in their own personal spaces
Yes even aces who express the desire to have more spaces for queer adults where their boundaries are met (on top of the queer spaces that exist, we do not want to sanitize your existing spaces ffs)
If you cannot be normal about these people existing, if you believe they're a threat to our community and to how we're viewed by people who aren't aspec and the rest of the LGBTQ+ community, you are not an asexual ally. Yes, even if you're aspec yourself. Especially if you're aspec yourself.
Because it's been pride month for 4 days and I'm already seeing people trying to throw us under the bus or pretend we don't exist because that makes the ace community more palatable to exclusionists and people who swallowed too much "aces are puritans" propaganda.
today in "google AI is fucking useless because it hallucinates things that never happened", i bought a couple CVS thermometers that have both been acting up, tried to search if there had been a problem with the whole product line:
there is no record of this product recall. it did not happen. the date "feb 8 2024" is the date someone listed a thermometer for sale on ebay.
Google's trying to save you the time spent clicking on a site full of AI-generated SEO garbage by presenting the AI-generated garbage right up front! Such efficiency.
#so google probably uses chatgpt right? #because for some time now chatgpt has done this #become utterly insane and make up random bullshit #and nobody knows why
I was under the impression that we did know why: AI isn't actually a brain and can't actually think or understand information, so it has no concept of something being true or not, or what markers indicate truth or falsity, or how to synthesize information. It's putting a bunch of words in a jar, shaking the jar, and then dumping it out, and acting like that means the jar knows how to talk.
Like, in this case, OP asked for information about a recall. The AI knows that, throughout the entire internet, the word "recall" usually is surrounded by information like a date or a number, so it gives you a date and a number. It doesn't know what a date is or what it's for or what it means. (It also apparently doesn't know the difference between "recall" as in "removing a dangerous product from the shelves" and "recall" as in "remembering," since it smooshes the two together)
what's that thing again that you can put into ublock that blocks all the ai results from google?
On Github is The Huge AI Blocklist for UblockOrigin. You can import it, the linked ReadMe gives a description on howto.
[ID mostly by @homunculusalphonse : A photo of the Google search results for the phrase "cvs thermometers recall": "On February 8, 2024, CVS Health recalled its rigid tip digital thermometer with memory recall and fever alarm. The thermometers have a memory recall feature that stores the previous temperature. The item number for the recall is 375235991489." Both the links attached to this text are from eBay and Pinterest. This module does say "AI overviews are experimental", in much smaller font. /End ID]

Have you ever thought about how much of human nature could just be a star’s nature?
All the elements for life were created in stars, and scatted throughout the universe when they died. If all life came from stars, is our nature just a reflection of theirs? Is this why humanity instinctively fears the dark? Because some part of us remembers being light? Or do we fear the dark because that means we are alone? Like those first few stars that lived in this dark universe, did they wish for light to chase away that lonely dark? Or do we fear the dark because of the chance that we are not alone, and something lurks in the abyss waiting to devour us? Like a star fearing the dark because it might hide a black hole that could swallow them.
What if star’s have a consciousness that we can not perceive, because our own consciousness is only a small speck of theirs. Do stars group together the same way people do? Humans use gravity as a way to explain why stars are pulled together, but could gravity simply be stars seeking community? Are galaxies like cities or countries? What about types of stars? Is a pulsar simply sending a message to another star in another galaxy? The same way humans do with first letters, then phones and now social media? Does a neutron star simply have a fear of being left behind and alone, so things around the neutron star stay to reassure them that they won’t be alone? Do humans not do the same for those we care about? Are binary stars simply locked into orbit because of gravity? Or are they dancing the same way humans do?
And what of black holes? Black holes are created from the death of the biggest stars, and they have gravity that not even light can escape from. But once again, do humans use gravity to describe a pull they do not understand? What if we replace gravity with grief? For a star that big, would other stars not have known them and perhaps loved them? Do they orbit a black hole not because they can not escape their gravity, but because they can not escape the grief of loss? And perhaps stars that are consumed by black holes are instead consumed by grief, does the same not happen to humans?
And what of this? Am I projecting humanity onto the stars, or did the stars give us our humanity? Are humans fascinated by the stars, because we unconsciously remember being one? Humans have watched the stars with wonder and curiosity for millennium, but I have to wonder, do they watch us just the same?

Dave is catching me up to the latest tumblr CEO news and uhhhh what is happening ?????
TO WHIT:
Tumblr's CEO, @photomatt, was asked a question in regards to restoring @predstrogen's account. notice how i could not tag predstrogen.
predstrogen had a sideblog, predstosterone (iirc?), in which she made a post saying she wanted to throw a bag of exploding hammers at matt's car. a very cartoonish and facetious expression of frustration
matt responds to this by permabanning her, threatening to call the FBI on her, and when pressed, repeatedly misgenders her (first they/them, then when corrected it/its and "she"/"her", the grossest ones imo!)
matt answers another ask with an "apology" ("sorry i made you feel that way :(")
matt then DIRECT MESSAGES MULTIPLE TRANS WOMEN with the posts in question. why? who knows. to try to be a debatebro? that's my guess
ex-staff reveals matt is the worst version of the millennial CEO. the type to follow "self-help" books written by corpo gurus. but more importantly, forced mass layoffs, several staff want to jump ship
matt meanwhile continues to throw a tantrum the likes of which i have seen compared to elon musk, compared to lowtax, and honestly i hope lowtax is the one that rings more familiar in the end if you get what i mean
those of us who believe in trans unity need to not let this be swept under the rug. several users, including predstrogen, have reduced this to the very popular game of "TME" vs "TMA" again when this is so much bigger than our fake gender wars.
which is to say i'm very upset about that going on. we need to be unified now more than ever, not further divided. we all need to speak for our sisters and brothers effected by this.
Yup that's about everything I've seen so far. Very much interested in seeing the posts from ex staff though, since I seem to have missed that stuff.
here is one such post from @tinystepsforward, it's the longest/most comprehensive look behind the curtain of tumblr i've seen!
