*sigh* fine, fine, i'll be the new doctor who showrunner. bring me two twinks, britain's tallest woman, and 1000 pounds worth of alumininamian foil
Which one will be the Doctor?
Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.
It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.
It's rude.
It's not just rude to make me read something you didn't want to write. It is that you expect me to respond to your email written by Claude. You don't even want me to talk to you. You want me to talk to Claude so that you can make Claude respond for you. It is rude to expect me to talk to a chatbot when I wanted to talk to you.
Learning that Pokemon Go was using user data to build model of the world that was then being sold to a military contractor to build a no-GPS positioning system for the newest generation of military drones has been incredibly heartbreaking. The more details that come out the more disturbed I become.
While this article is a lot more pro-military than I'd prefer (though unsurprising given the source) it still gives a pretty good summary of the situation.
Pokémon Go players' 30 billion scans trained navigation tech now bound for military drones, via Niantic Spatial's defense partnership with V

Like so many people, one of my fondest memories was Pokemon Go with my friends in Summer 2016. This feels like a betrayal.
In case anyone finds it helpful because mobility aids are horrifically expensive and inaccessibleâŠ
And for those people who have access to mobility devices but might benefit from a second chair they can abuse without risking expensive damageâŠ
Erik Kondo has made a website, Open Source Innovations, that details plans for DIY wheelchairs. These wheelchairs can be made from common materials like wood, plastic, and pvc. They are lightweight and can be custom fit to the user allowing from the same degree of movement you would get from a custom chair. And they are durable and easily repairable. (he has been stress testing his latest design by dropping it down stairs, dropping it out of a car, launching it across a driveway, and throwing it off a deck). Its 12lbs and I think he said its was in the $200 ish range for parts.
He also is working on cheap, open source, accessible designs for beach chairs, off road chairs, motorized attachments (think smart drive), and so on. Plus he skateboards in his wheelchair. Cool dude, helpful info, pass it on.
It's incredibly sad people have to resort to this, but it's a damn good resource. Use it. Spread awareness. Maybe one day people with physical disabilities won't need DIYs like this. But until then, reblog and share.
This is Accessibility!
That's so amazing! It is unfortunate that so many people will need this, but very very cool that it exists
That other link seems to be broken.
Thank you so much for putting the working one!
I will add it to my original reblog as well.

Do you ever think about how so much of the deadly anti-science rhetoric that fills America today and is killing countless vulnerable people can be directly traced back to one fucking guy who decided to just straight-up lie about vaccines causing autism because it would make him a profit? Do you ever think about that? Because I think about it a lot.

Nichelle Nichols (December 28, 1932 - )
âUhura never had another name during the series. One of the fan writers wrote âUpendaâ - which means âpeaceâ in Swahili, I understand â not officially, but in some of their fan writings. And it sort of took hold. But when they were going to do the official history of Star Trek in a published book, the writer called Gene and asked him was âUhuraâ her first name or her last name? Gene said, âWell, Nichelle and I never decided.â We always leaned towards it being her last name because itâs taken from the Swahili âuhuruâ which means freedom. So it would sort of be like the same as âFreeman.â So he said, âYou can make it her last name.â The writer said, âWhat about her first name? Iâve come up with one in Swahili. Itâs Nyota.â Gene said, âI canât give you that permission because Nichelle and I named her together, and she has rights to that, so youâll have to call her and get her permission.â So he gave him my number, and he called me and I laughed and was delighted. He said, âI have a name and itâs Nyota.â I said, âThatâs quite beautiful. What does it mean?â He said, âIt means âstarâ.â I said, âYou can have my permission!â So I have since said that her name is Nyota Upenda Uhura, which would mean a free-floating star: âstar of freedom and peaceâ. I like that.â   â NICHELLE NICHOLS
the problem with movie remakes is that they always remake something that was already good, meaning at worst you ruin it and at best your remake is largely redundant. to make a truly good remake you need to start with source material that is absolute dogwater. ignore the pull of nostalgia. redeem the sins of moviemaking past.
My latest cartoon for New Scientist
To be clear, this isn't a bit. This is what they actually did. "Its too late" is the new "Climate change isn't real"... And its still a lie!
Every serious climate scientist agrees that there is no such as thing as too late, just as there is no such thing as too early. We should have done a lot more than we have to fight climate change, and the world will suffer for our inaction, but there is no point of no return. We can always work to reduce the amount of suffering that occurs, and eventually turn things around to the point where our planet is healing once again. Do not believe anyone who says it's "too late".
normally petty arguments about small cultural differences are whatever, its just what youre used to normally but
there is literally no advantage at all to a bag of milk and a designated milk bag pitcher
like if the milk MUST be in a bag for whatever reason, at least put a spigot on it like a bag of wine or those emergency water bags
i -really- need to clarify that the bag milk people would be much less annoying if they were just like âyeah its what im used to i like itâ but instead you bring up bag milk and they will each give you a different, imagined, and often conflicting personal reason why they are actually better
if one person says easier to pour, one person says more recyclable, and one person says efficient storage (especially if all three have an alternative that is better than both bags and jugs, glass) then you know that its cope and each reason is made up. (also i almost forgot that one lunatic who said it makes the milk expire slower????)
anyway recycling plastic in any form is a myth and the best milk experience ive ever had was rectangular and stackable glass bottles that are completely recyclable
We really had it right in the 40s with the milk man stuff
AND you could fuck the milk man!!!
And you could fuck the milk man.
Getting into Of The Devil is crazy because people will sell it to you on the premise of âItâs toxic yuri Death Note!â And the you check it out and itâs some of the most dense and engaging cyberpunk fiction to be written in the last decade and also itâs like if Death Note was written by someone who doesnât hate women.
Not to mention its depictions of neurodivergence being some of the most empathetic and emotionally powerful I've seen pretty much anywhere
