The thing with reading about historical figures who were regarded as Big Fucking Weirdos in their day is that in practice, a lot of them were merely eccentric by modern standards and their contemporaries were just judgmental pricks, so it kind of takes you by surprise when you bump into one who was, like, legit a Big Fucking Weirdo.
Roger Ackwilde was often simply known as "Wilde" for his many strange and sometimes off-putting habits. Modern historians; after reviewing both Ackwilde's personal writings and accounts left behind by his family, friends, and countrymen; have proposed that Roger most likely suffered from autism some 150 years before the condition was properly recognized. Roger Ackwilde - despite his abundant strangeness - held a lifelong career as an architect and had a wife and four children before his death at the age of 65 from tuberculosis.
Daniel Potemkin was described by his peers as "the most racist man in the world" who would cry and scream and even urinate at the mere sight of any man, woman, child, food, or cultural artifact that was not from his hometown of Brighton UK. Aside from his crippling racism Daniel Potemkin was also known for attempting to start a new branch of the Christian church after a near-death experience due to falling from a bridge while fleeing from what he believed to be a Belgian man.
I told my little nephew that I'd wave at his airplane when it flew over my house today, and he very calmly and politely explained that it wouldn't be possible to see me due to the limitations of human vision. I said he just had to squint real hard, and he took a deep breath and went into the toddler version of "see, what you're not understanding–"
one time i was making potato soup and i needed broth for it but i was out of broth. but in my dog food cabinet there was a carton of chicken broth that i had bought for my dog. now the box did say HUMAN GRADE and the ingredients were just bog standard chicken broth. it did say something about joint health for dogs on there. but the ingredients were normal. i even compared the ingredients list to some normal person broth and they were the same. so i did put dog broth in that soup and it did taste completely normal. but i did use the dog broth.
Solid life advice from Sue the T. Rex.
rip to the guy who posted his very expensive yixing teapot to r/tea, only for the comments to be not compliments on his taste as he expected, but instead GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY and I SHOULD CALL HER. he then crossposted it to r/gongfutea, which is ordinarily more dignified and self-serious, but was it? was it?? of course not, because this is reddit, and this was the teapot
One thing about the post-finale wave of new Jax haters that frustrates yet amuses me is that a lot of them are actually former Jax simps.
Like, 6/10 new haters I've encounter in the past two-ish months used to adore Jax.
You can search the Jax tag on their blog and they were making thirst posts about her.
They were selfshipping with her.
They were trying to justify every misdeed and woobify her.
They were demonizing Ragatha and Gangle for standing up to her.
They were taking their Jax plushies on dates to restaurants, and movies, and fairs, and etc.
They were exploring their fetishes and kinks using her character.
They unironically wanted the "I can fix him shirt."
They were unironically using Pomni and Ragatha to self-insert into the show to be with her.
They were making OCs who's sole purpose for existing was to date her.
They were writing fics about marrying her.
But the revelation that she was in fact a woman the whole time broke their brains.
Now they're back tracking hard and trying to hide the transphobia behind performative "lib speak" (for lack of a better term) so they don't lose their ally points.
They want to be seen as an ally because it makes them feel good, but they're not willing to put in any of the actual work, including the self-work of addressing why being attracted to a trans woman makes them so uncomfortable.
They just want credit while being given a pass to be transphobic. Which they're not getting, and a lot of them are having temper tantrums about it.
On days where it doesn't outright piss me off, it's really entertaining to watch them flounder in a hell of their own making.
WTF this is masterful, 10/10.
Other people have said this in notes, but the Bulwer-Lytton contest involves writing the most absurd opener you can think of and submitting it to the contest. It's not a judgment like the Razzies or the bad sex in books award or something; it's a game. Diana Murtaugh of Baltimore is to be congratulated for this win.
@pangur-and-grim
I feel like you'd have a great shot at this contest

I had a dream last night that I ran away from fascists and ended up at this farm that was full of this weird but very large prehistoric animal that was like a fluffy Tapir and I want to know if it actually exists. It was about the size of a Dairy Cow.
Like this but with big fluffy hair with white streaks

imagine waking up and u found out the Game Grumps got killed by crips
Alright y'all I’m big mad about this information being spread because I cannot find ANY evidence that his tweet was either real, or that his account was not hacked during the time this was posted (which apparently the date on the tweet is around the same time that a lot of other youtubers’ accounts got hacked). I cannot find that screencap tweet anywhere outside of tumblr which is extremely suspicious to begin with, nor can I find any articles talking about it??? I tried googling the tweet word for word, I looked up problematic arin hanson tweets, and more…and I have found nothing about this supposed post. Like it just seems like it was spread by this hellsite because it thrives on the blood of cancel culture.
There are a lot of shitty people that should be called out for their problematic behaviour, but the Game Grumps have made an effort in the last several years to be as inclusive and PC as possible. Arin has publically acknowledged and apologized for the shitty things he has said in the past. They make a point to be inclusive in their language. Even if they arent the heads of pc culture and social justice, they are trying and I think that is important to recognize. And if you still dont like him or the Game Grumps for those things, that’s fine…but stop spreading misinformation on the account of your own agenda.
Instead of ostracizing people for things you have no evidence of, try going out and actually contributing to society by voting and focusing on things that actually fucking matter.
