Prayer Request for the Grieving and the Innocent

Normally I don't make these kinds of posts but this one's a pretty bad shake up. My cousin and her husband had an early birth of only 23 weeks, and just lost their baby on the 28th week not too long ago.

Every moment of his life was filled with love, anticipation, and valiant struggle for everyone involved. The parents bear witness to his awareness even when he was supposed to be in the womb. They could tell he could react and respond to his surroundings, and within him there was life, love, and a willingness to live.

Even in his short time, his strength touched all of our hearts, and his loss pains our hearts all the more. The faith of the parents themselves is just as inspiring as they look to God for comfort in this painful time.

Please keep him in your prayers, for his memory to be kept alive within us, for the Lord to have mercy on his soul, that he may pray for us also, and that his parents will be able to recover and continue to honor him and God with their lives

Paul, Pharisee of the Pharisees becoming all things to all men, and Peter though bold and impulsive acting with humility and trust when called to preach to the Gentiles Both have done amazing work in bringing the faith of Christ to all mankind, and it is not only them but all the Apostles who's lives and legacies reign among us to this day

How long you’ve been Christian: My answer to this is kind of long 😂 I grew up Catholic and have always know of Jesus my whole life. However, my relationship with Jesus really grew once I became Protestant and got baptized as an adult. To be honest, I don’t remember the exact date. But it was in 2024 that I was baptized. So, I would personally say I’ve been Christian for 2 years.

Favourite verse/verses: Oooh. I really like Matthew 6:25-27

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” NIV Version

As someone who struggles with anxiety, I just love what Jesus is saying here. It’s a good reminder that God has everything under control, and that my life is incredibly valuable to Him.

Favourite book: I find Revelation fascinating personally, so I think that might be my favorite book! I also enjoy reading through Matthew.

Currently reading: I’ve been reading through Genesis all year with my Women’s Bible Study group, but that study recently ended. So I might read through Exodus next. Or I might go over some parts of my Genesis study. To be determined 😊

A helpful resource (if you have one): There is a website called Got Questions that I LOVE! It’s great for pretty much any questions you have! And they have an app also! Speaking of apps, I also enjoy the YouVersion Bible App! Great for having a Bible on the go, and for starting daily Bible reading plans on things you’re interested in! For example, I’m starting an 8 day plan on Evangelism.

Wanted to learn about God; started the Bible and got introduced to the Orthodox Church in late 2020

Attended first Liturgy in 2022

Finished most of the Bible in 2023, drawing out Psalm and Revelation for another 2 years

Started Catechumenate in 2024

Still currently on track for Baptism and Chrismation

Notice these resources are not only listed by priority but are mostly action oriented because faith in Christ is an actionable, lived in reality.

The best thing you can do to live out your relationship with God is to ask God to transform you and help you live the faith, to attend services, to build a prayer habit that reflects the services, to stay and meet with fellow Christian people, and to remember at the end of the day what matters is not any head knowledge or piety you might display but rather it is the love you show for God, people, creation, and life itself.

The New Skete monks’ path from Catholic to Orthodox: The small community — today comprising 10 monks and about the same number of adult German shepherds — was started by Franciscan friars who were seeking a more contemplative yet rooted spiritual structure than the Catholic orders were providing them, said Brother Marc. One of the founders — and now 82 — he directs the choir at New Skete together with Brother Luke.

They were inspired by the “explosion of wonderfulness” of the Second Vatican Council to return to ancient but simpler and more accessible practices, like those of the first ascetics in the Egyptian desert, from whom the name skete derives, and who also received pilgrims and performed other community services. Whoo this story’s fun. When I was little my sona was called Lee so that became my nickname/handle for a lot of things, and when I joined tumblr I decided that stars were my thing so it was Starlee246 (my favourite numbers). So, my friend actually helped to inspire my username. In college, outside my dorm room I had a little whiteboard on my door. We were hanging out in my room one day and as she left, she wrote “Rockelle” on my door. Just as a silly way of spelling Raquel. Sometimes people call me Raquel as a nickname since my name is Rachel. Anyway, I really liked “Rockelle” and decided to use it as a username. I added the x cause I thought it was cool lol 😂
