Hi! I’m Castell! Here’s a Get-to-Know-Me, Meet-the-Artist thingy.

I’m a fairy-vampire bat hybrid vtuber, but I haven’t streamed yet. My processor fan fails every time I turn the computer on. I’m not sure when I’ll have time to get it fixed.

Where am I from?: The South of North America. I’m very southern. Love tea.

My go-to art supplies: Prismacolored pencils, Derwent pencils, Winstor & Newton charcoal pencils, & acrylic paints.

A little backstory:

Back in 2022, my dad convinced me to start posting my art on Tik Tok and YouTube. He’s the reason I started drawing in the first place. All throughout my life, I remember constantly running to him to critique my art and geek out about whatever. He gave the absolute best feedback! In my eyes, my dad was like a superhero and an art legend.

For a short time during my childhood, he was a manager for a graphic design building before it was shut down and turned into a parking lot. Later that same year I started posting online, my dad had a heart attack. Unfortunately, he didn’t survive surgery. From then on, I’ve made it my life goal to stop the spread of harmful stereotypes surrounding diabetes, while continuing to post my art online, and hopefully help others the same way my dad did with me.

The year after my dad had passed away, I started experiencing strange things. February of 2024, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, which was only the beginning of my health problems.

With that in mind, I hope that some of my posts will feel like a warm hug to the chronically ill people who see it.

The other day I was surfing the internet and I found this specialized painting colour wheel, it shows how real paint colours relate to each other. 

Outside: the purest/brightest colours.

Inside: naturally muted or earthy colors, like browns and ochres.

The Center: dark neutral tones used for mixing shadows.

The Lines: the lines connect colors that are opposites, if you mix them you neutralize the tone creating clean grays or browns instead of muddy puddles.

I want to share this with you because I think it is really illustrative!

“A good artist can always find a way to fix a mistake.”- My late dad

It might not be an exact quote, but he was right! Everyone knows of Bob Ross’ “happy little accidents” speech. It translates to non-art things, too! Creative mishaps teach us problem solving skills.

There really aren’t any mistakes in art. What a lot of artists view as mistakes are really traits of human artists! Unless you’re going for a 100% accurate copy of a photo or another artist’s work (for practice studies only. Please don’t copy another artist’s work without tagging the original artist.), your “mistakes” can, & will, make your art look even more uniquely yours!

I’ve been thinking about my dad and his words a lot. It reminds me of the time he used a hose to temporarily fix a flooding bathroom at work, while everyone else was panicking and waiting for the plumber.

Us artists can be very observant and detail-oriented. That’s a good detail to add on your résumé.

6 Habits I’m Trying to Form, as a Chronically Ill, & ADHD Artist:

1) Scheduling: Due to my symptoms being unpredictable, I never know if I won’t be able to post for however many days. The Scheduling feature on most social media platforms allows me to create, and take care of myself, without the extra stress of planning when to post.

I’ve made the weekend my designated days to schedule posts a week or two in advance. If I feel well enough, that is.

2) Keeping snacks and water near me at all times. I’ve been really struggling with this one… Hydration is difficult.

3) Setting alarms every 10-30 minutes to remind myself to take breaks from creating & take care of myself. This one is also hard to remember. Movement helps a lot, & ADHD burnout is not fun at all.

4) Using a digital art app on extra low energy, & high symptom days. Unless my chronic migraine, eye pain, and stomach issues flare up to a lvl 9-9 1/2, this one is pretty helpful! Sometimes, fibromyalgia flare ups cause my hands to tremor and my grip strength gets low.

I’ve almost dropped my mom’s lovely, glass cups quite a few times.

5) Prescription Calendar: I don’t know if that’s really what those things are called. But, I find it really helpful. I don’t have to play Russian Roulette with my pills anymore.

6) Trying my best to remind myself that it’s okay to step away from art and social media, when needed, and that it’s okay if I can’t get as many things done in a day/week/month, like I used to. This is probably the most important one, besides water. Dehydration can be scary. Lol

Unfinished, & old, acrylic master copy.

Does anyone know who the original artist was?

When I found the original image in a Google search, it said the original artist was Salvador Dali. A high school art teacher was unsure of if the piece was Dali or not. Still, she let me copy the painting. 5 years later, I have not been able to find the original photo to finish this master copy.

I miss the time when I thought my computer could handle a 3D model. She turned out so pretty.

Btw, I’m only showing the top of the model’s face, since the background color of the full body image was…a choice.

Little Update: I still have not rigged my current 2D model. All of the apps I would use are on my desktop computer. It has not worked, since the beginning of last year. The plan is to bring it to a tech bro, but my family has a busy schedule. There’s no telling when it will be fixed. I know it isn’t much of an update. ;u;

This is my current, 2D design. My friends have convinced me to tweak the outfit a little bit to fit my vibes better.

Idk if I will decide to post an updated version before the rig or not. That is a secret for later. That secret is also hidden from myself, for now…

I drew this character back in high school graphic design class, 5 years ago. The prompt was to create an original character. But, I don’t remember if we had to use simple shapes or if that was my choice.

Do you think I should redesign this character for comic purposes?

This was my second attempt at drawing without sketching out the idea in pencil beforehand.

There’s a few details that look a little off. It’s a bit of an old sketch. But, it isn’t too bad for a second attempt, I think.

So, I had been working on this painting I like to call “A Meditation with Jesus”. Life got in the way, but I’m planning to continue when I can.

Once I get back on a prescription that is taking FOREVER, I’ll finish cleaning my room and Livestream some more progress on my YouTube channel for ya’ll! It’s been a while.

Some more details behind the painting:

I’ve always admired baroque artists, like Rembrandt or Caravaggio. But, none of the existing baroque-styled paintings I know of have captured Yeshua’s appearance the way I remember seeing him. The closest image I’ve found has been Akiane’s portrait of Jesus, called “Father Forgive Them”. His face in my painting in progress is based off of that painting.

The most difficult part has been fixing the anatomy and lighting of his mantle (The skirt of his robes, I think? Not sure if the robes were separate from the mantle or not.). I think it’s way too dark to see the highlights. That’ll be fixed later.

Fun fact: The clothes Jesus, and other Nazarenes wore were basically the same as what the Romans wore, during that time.

Also, the dog in the painting is Beignet. He’s my baby and my little, old man. Sometimes we like to meditate with Yeshua in our backyard. Especially on warm, sunny days. Once this painting is complete, it’ll be a nice, mental image brought to life.

My hope is to share the warm and cozy vibes I get from meditating outside with my dog and Yeshua, with whoever views my painting. Perhaps the Livestream will create some good memories all of us can share together, too. I can’t wait to meet and hang out with everyone who joins!

Btw, this is the most detailed and stressful painting I’ve ever done. Yet, I’ve had so much fun with it, so far! Adding symbols and hidden meanings in my art is one of my favorite things.
