Megatron’s Fate in Lost Light
(Spoilers for the end of Transformers: Lost Light)
In the final issue, it’s left vague whether Megatron receives a life sentence or the death penalty, but there’s one piece of evidence that I often see people point to as proof of death and I really don’t get it.
At Ratchet’s memorial, Rodimus leaves Megatron’s Rodimus Star, implying he’s had it since the trial.
People have taken that to mean Megatron was executed and Rodimus had the Star ever since. BUT! I took it to mean that there’s no personal belongings in prison and that’s why Rodimus had it. More specifically, I assumed if Megatron was dead the Star would be buried or cremated or launched into space along with his body. The fact it was ultimately left at a memorial just raises the question of why not Megatron’s memorial?
Of course, in the story itself it’s vague, and what’s the point of leaving it open and then giving a definitive answer? I remember what Frank Darabont said about Blade Runner, the only correct answer to whether or not Deckard is a replicant is ‘maybe’.
(I’ve got a much more complicated post about Lost Light’s end in the works, along with one on Blade Runner, so I like how they sort of tied together here)
