the thing about polyamory is it tends to raise your standards
like. it's so easy to think all relationships have to be an exercise in managing everyone's emotions and jealousy. that whatever connections you've managed to eke out are all you can get and you have to cling on for dear life.
but the more relationships you have in your life the more possibilities get opened up to you. maybe your girl didn't leave you because she found someone she liked better, but because they treated her in ways she preferred and you didn't want to change with the times.
like it's really hard to understate the repeated shocks we've had this year, of seeing people doing polyamory and like, actually meaning it
like oh i can come over to hang out and your partner is chill about that? i don't have to hide that we're fucking? oh you want to like, introduce me to the other people you're having sex with because you think we're cool? or because you think we'd have shared interests? you're telling me im not feeling uncomfortable at the gay sauna public sex event with my friends, because im secure enough in these relationships and everyone wants to make sure we're all having a good time? oh i can describe sex im having with other people to you and that doesn't make you feel weird? i can post about sex we're having where other partners can see it and no-one's getting uncomfortable about that? you can post about me where your partners can see and they aren't uncomfortable and also like the posts? you mentioned me to other people in your life? i can make out with your ex in front of you? im walking in on you sexting friends and instead of having to stop we can just move that to a group chat and i can join in? you're dragging me out to bars with mutual acquaintances to break the ice? you've got me collared and leashed at a sex on premises event like your dog and you're letting some person you knew from uni play with my mouth? we're hanging out in groups where everyone's fucked and it's chill and also there's no pressure to hook up or have it be sexual if not everyone's vibing? wait everyone im fucking thinks im attractive? like when they see pictures of me they think im cute or hot? they like that?
always waiting for the other shoe to drop on any or all of that. but safe to say it kinda reconfigures your brain and what you think is possible out of life.

Polyamory is fucking fantastic. I am in love with the concepts and seeing people engage with polyamory is so beautiful to me. I get so much joy from it and every time I see some bs monogamous rule being broken my heart grows
not sure how folks in the tags managed to clock this was an aromantic thing for us too, but. not treating "romantic feelings" as their own special class of thing was definitely a big part of this for us too.
the kind of insecurity i was bitching about at the end of the second post, the idea that other relationships can threaten yours. will be a possibility whether or not your partner is allowed to fuck or have romantic feelings about those people. the amount of time you spend with someone doesn't actually always correlate to if you're having feelings or leaving your cum on them. and treating "romance" (or sex, tbh) as this big mystical thing often just serves to cloud this fact.
every time I've seen someone get jealous of someone's other partners it's so obviously been a matter of needing more attention or security in their own relationship. sometimes the breakup is about your own relationship not being good and not anyone elses - not every relationship works out and this is fine.
and im not saying you have to be poly (i've definitely had times where only seeing one person, or even none, was a better idea for me). or that this is easy. or trying to brag here.
i've been the person in relationships who needed to hear minimal information about other partners, treat all that information carefully, avoid knowing about partners' plans.
what changed that was a lot of the stuff i talked about in this post though. being taken by the hand and told partners cared about us and valued our relationship, getting help building up the social infrastructure we needed to get our needs met, getting introduced to our friends' broader social networks. in many ways the salacious gay sex is less important here than the "being taken to a bar to get introduced to a friend of a friend" of it all.
not every relationship is going to become a permanent fixture in your life. sometimes you hook up once or twice and then just talk occasionally. sometimes you click hard and fast and need to see each other constantly. but getting to meet more people and feel out what you actually want from your relationships is an absolute good, even if it means some of your relationships need to adapt and change over time.
i know this is hard. im an autistic tranny who was literally too scared to leave her room a decade ago. but i promise it's possible. you can go from feeling like every relationship is a life raft you need to cling to. to being genuinely happy when someone you meet has other partners, because you know that means they have other places to meet their needs and it's not all on you. you start having a community.

a delightful part of leverage to me is also how much of the stuff they pull off is so insane that if the marks try to explain how they ended up in that situation noone ever believes them because who the fuck would even do something like that. they get away with it just because of that so often and it's awesome
I think about this all the time. They show it once in "The Bank Job" where the corrupt judge just gets written off because of how terrible he is. How did Kanack explain the aliens? Because half the time they also don't know how they got found out or fucked over, either.
This has been driving me insane.
I used to be *good* at search. It was a whole thing - I found people's "lost songs" or their unknown-source childhood stuffed toy or whatever from Google.
Now, you can't search for the exact brand/design name of something and get accurate answers. It drives me spare on Amazon - if I search for XYZ and you don't have any, or you only have 2, tell me that.
I wouldn't mind if it said "Here are 2 XYZ. Shoppers also searched for..." Instead it'll just throw a random, barely-linked pile of results and you have to wade through every single one to see if the thing you want exists.
THIS. For ages I used to say that I had "high Google-Fu". I could find *anything* because I knew how to use strings to enhance searches. The string commands haven't even worked for well over a year or more, far before they put in this infernal (and often wrong!) AI BS on top.
I used to be able to search for recipes and easily eliminate unwanted ingredients with a -. For example I'd look for low-carb desserts but without the zillions that use peanut butter simply by searching for something like:
low carb chocolate dessert recipe -peanut
And I'd get a slew of on-point suggestions. For some time now if you do -peanut Google ignores the - and assumes you want recipes stuffed with peanuts.
Where it's even worse now is now you get directed to sites full of bogus AI recipes that don't even make sense. But they have peanuts in them.
I used to be able to use reverse image searches to find out who made that awesome art so I could give credit in my share. They've removed that ability entirely and replaced it with Lens, which is AI BS just showing you more like what you looked for. (Rebecca Watson complained about this in her recent video about JD Vance jizz cup rumours and I apologise for that sentence but...yeah. Watson is great, go find her on Youtube and subscribe because she went into detail about how Google has become less and less useful for debunking.)
This isn't just about Google inserting shopping ads instead of what you wanted to learn about. That's bad. But the results now are just *broken*. The tools we used to have to make searches better have been removed. Google no longer wants us to find the answers we seek, but the answers they want us to have, and that's super creepy and dangerous.
And the alternatives are either using Google in the back end or have other significant barriers to use.
This sucks.
Duckduckgo and all the other alternatives work this way too, now.
Verbatim search, guys!! Go to "Tools," and enable "Verbatim."

I have a tendency to beat myself up whenever something I make doesn’t meet my expectations (which is always). The result is that finishing something = bad feelings: I am effectively punishing myself for having created something. The natural reaction to this punishment is an aversion to creation, meaning that my perfectionism is harming me, not only by causing me to despise what I do make and by impeding the creative process, but by attacking even my desire to create.

leverage truly has some of the most random side plots. sophie can't stand midwestern food until she gets hungry enough to understand the appeal of pork rinds. parker gets put on antidepressants and experiences one episode of being sociable and happy. parker overcomes her fear of horses which she has because as a child she witnessed a horse beat a clown to death (to be clear, a murder committed by a man dressed as a horse, not an accident involving a real horse). actually parker mostly just seems to be experiencing different emotional stakes than everyone else
Let's also talk about how Alec made orange soda beer that was vile. Presumably the man likes beer. He had to have known. Or him making Eliot walk around with the satellite transmitter and basically doing the Cha Cha Slide. Also the plot-but-also-somehow-a-side-plot of The Sandwich. Every single side plot for Hardison is just to knowingly piss of Eliot while also being shocked that Eliot is mad.
