Just want to say Dick has been homeless multiple times in comics. Dick's homeless stories are still different from Jason's though, but I wouldn't really say making Dick homeless is giving Dick Jason's story.
Some times when Dick has been homeless:
Talked about this one in tags already, so not going to talk about it TOO much here again: In one take on Dick's origin where Bruce didn't save Dick until somewhat later. Dick ends up in a really bad orphanage/kind of a juvie where he is treated awfully and then escapes and runs away and that is part of how Dick and Bruce end up meeting (again/more formally/etc.).
Like I said, they could more from this take/origin, while connecting Dick and Jason more and having them be on streets together and stuff. So Dick's origin remains more intact, as well, as hopefully Jason's too. And I hope they do something like this or something, though my hopes sadly aren't too high that they will (I will still hope though).
In Robin: Year One after Dick almost gets beaten to death by Two-Face and basically gets fired from being Robin. Dick ends up running away because of how Bruce was being and stuff. And is kind of/is homeless for a bit, and then gets training by assassins and/or the LoA.
When he was around 16 years old or so, Dick becomes homeless again, and then he gets treated horribly and well, not going to get too much into it, because it gets pretty heavy and dark, so let's just say Dick gets treated horribly, like I was saying by a couple of people named Liu and Eddie.
During all the Blockbuster stuff (and the Catalina stuff was ongoing at that point even before the incident) Dick becomes homeless after losing (and many lives, including friends' lives were lost too) his circus that he owned and the apartment buildings he took care of were burned down and/or blown up.
So I defin. think there are homeless stories that could be told with Dick, that are his. Including again, an origin one, that the movie could so easily take from (and hopefully does), and do something good and cool with it, while keeping Dick's character and origins more intact, while still trying to explore different stuff too.
The thief stuff is more new though. And I think could be done well and interestingly with Dick too, but yeah, it was more new for Dick, and like I said, Dick fans aren't super happy either, because again, Dick also has his own stories and origins', that are great like Jason's too.
Maybe, hopefully they could still do something good with them both being thieves, that keeps their characters and origins more intact, while still doing different stuff with them, and is respectful for both characters. And maybe the homeless story they do with Dick and Jason, actually takes from some both Dick and Jason's homeless stories, and not just Jason's. And/or etc.
Though again, keeping my hopes for this movie low somewhat, even if I still really hope for this stuff. And for the movie to be good in general and for both Dick and Jason to be done well.
Also, yeah, Jason has had some bad and classist and stuff writing with him sometimes.
Don't really think that would case them decide to write or treat Dick better, since he has had classist writing with him sometimes too.
And he is also more lower and/or working (with Dick literally working since he was a child) class.
With the circus sometimes in some stuff and takes just barely staying afloat.
But yeah, classist writing when it happens to Jason and/or Dick and/or etc. sucks, and shouldn't happen.
(They both sometimes get weirdly and/or badly written for other reasons too, which I am not going to get into much here currently)
And also, while I say some Dick fans aren't particularly happy with some of the stuff involving this movie either, I totally understand some Jason fans aren't happy either, and it would make sense why.
Hopefully some of the description for this movie ends up wrong and/or better in context, and both Jason and Dick as characters, their relationship with each other, with Bruce, etc. can be done well, in-character, respectfully, while keeping characters and origins intact and/or fairly intact, while doing more new and different stuff and also taking affect how certain newer situations and circumstances they are in, may have affect them (and hopefully that is done well too).
But again, like I said, I understand people's frustations and/or worries about this movie still.
I am trying to hope for the best, but I also have worries and frustartions too.
