The worst types of cookbook:
The Ottolenghi - it is vital that you use 1g of this very expensive ingredient. It comes from a 500g bag with a one-week shelf life.
The time machine - 15-minute recipe! First, leave to marinate overnight...
The dishwasher - one-pot recipe! Now decant your ingredients and wipe out your pot. And again. And again. And again.
The optimist - cook the onions until caramelised (2 minutes).
The kindergarten teacher - get one nommable little tree of broccoli and bosh that into boiling water. Delish!
The brand names only - ingredients: Ritz crackers, Philadelphia cheese, Cool Whip, orange Jell-o...
The 1950s palate - use one (1) clove of garlic and a small pinch of chili flakes (omit if preferred).
The why bother with a cookbook - to make beans on toast, gently heat a tin of beans and put on top of freshly buttered toast.
#the overachiever: make this very time consuming ingredient from scratch even though it'll end up tasting worse than store bought
Amen to this @akasanata. "Now make your puff pastry from scratch". How about no❤️
The machinist's cookbook - Requires twenty different pieces of bulky and expensive kitchen equipment that the author is inexplicably certain you own.
The multitasker - And while your water is boiling, your vegetables are blanching, your onions which you hopefully remembered to stir every 15 seconds are caramelizing and your sauce that will split if you look at it funny are cooking, get another pot ready and start chopping the vegetables.
know the difference!
If your entire multi-paragraph post is in this font size, I'm not reading it.
No, I do not care how important you think it is. If the entire post is important enough for this font size, you don't need multiple paragraphs. Use it for the headline and then add context below.

That post about death note being "everyone's first anime" (untrue statement) made me curious and now I want to gather data for science
Can you reblog this and tell me where are you from and what was your starter anime?

Right, considering the current state of corporate politics on this site, and that it seems that only those affected seem to be actively speaking on the matter, it is up to I, the only fucking cishet on tumblr, to drag this out to a wider audience.

We need to show these higher ups how much we truly value them.
The midjourney stuff just reminds of when we were trying to find a new platform to host the ao3 donation form, and companies kept trying to tell me about all their "ai" features that would track donor engagement, and figure out the optimal pattern to email individual donors asking for follow up donations, and all the ways they suggest we manipulate people into staying on our websites. It was a great way to filter out who either wasn't listening to us when we described our ethics and donor base, or just didn't believe us.
Now granted ao3 is a unique case based on a) the amount of page views we get in any given time period and b) the fact that most donors absolutely do Not want to be identified as such anywhere, (the default "list of recent donors" module got nuked Immediately) but it surprised me some that the concept of "donors who value their privacy and would be furious at even the whiff of AI" is unique. Some of us really are just existing in different worlds.

#I just started dropping '2.5 Billion page views a month'#into conversations as early as possible bc they would Not believe me otherwise#it was right up there with having to say 'csam attacks' to get them to take my compartmentalization of information concerns seriously#turns out those are the magic words#otw#op
The last part was kind of insane, honestly. When we started changing platforms for the donor database, I kept telling them that yes I was aware we already had an account for the volunteer database, and no that could not be connected to the donor database. And they said yes fine sure and then connected them anyway. And I called them back and said, excuse me, I'm confused, I can see both databases. And they said, well, yeah, but it's only you, someone has to be able to see both databases to give other users access. The other users can't see both. And I said, no, we have been asking for a completely separate database. I should not be able to see both. And they said, you are one organization, one organization can't have two databases. And I said, last year someone used our volunteer email list to commit approximately one thousand felonies. Please feel free to imagine how much worse it could have been had they had a way to use volunteers' email addresses to get their legal names. We do not want this to be something anyone can do no matter how much we trust them. Let me describe those felonies to you in more detail. And they emailed me two hours later and said, you can have two separate databases.
This post feels like watching an iceberg go by in clear water. The amount of stuff going on beneath the surface of AO3 just astonishes.

beautiful like to reblog ratio on this
That's because people are reblogging it every time they see it. Like I'm doing right now lmao

I draw everything on my phone so it's probably a reason why I feel somewhat inferior to my art peers but I will become better with what I have at my own pace. this art piece is ok there's more I could do, but overall it's decent and I hope to become a better artist soon.
sorry I lack confidence sometimes. I just wanna push myself harder as an artist. here's a lil comparison for how my art got cohesive overtime
In case anyone finds it helpful because mobility aids are horrifically expensive and inaccessible…
And for those people who have access to mobility devices but might benefit from a second chair they can abuse without risking expensive damage…
Erik Kondo has made a website, Open Source Innovations, that details plans for DIY wheelchairs. These wheelchairs can be made from common materials like wood, plastic, and pvc. They are lightweight and can be custom fit to the user allowing from the same degree of movement you would get from a custom chair. And they are durable and easily repairable. (he has been stress testing his latest design by dropping it down stairs, dropping it out of a car, launching it across a driveway, and throwing it off a deck). Its 12lbs and I think he said its was in the $200 ish range for parts.
He also is working on cheap, open source, accessible designs for beach chairs, off road chairs, motorized attachments (think smart drive), and so on. Plus he skateboards in his wheelchair. Cool dude, helpful info, pass it on.
It's incredibly sad people have to resort to this, but it's a damn good resource. Use it. Spread awareness. Maybe one day people with physical disabilities won't need DIYs like this. But until then, reblog and share.
This is Accessibility!
That's so amazing! It is unfortunate that so many people will need this, but very very cool that it exists
That other link seems to be broken.
Thank you so much for putting the working one!
I will add it to my original reblog as well.
"poc person" you are saying person of color person. "poc artist poc writer poc media" that's not what it means!! stop that!!!
why are you guys acting like i'm asking you to move heaven and earth to change how you use one term
this is the internet. better yet, this is the progressive internet. everyone is being bombarded with requests to change their language all the time. each individual one is small but it's not nothing. with enough of them it adds up to be a real task. and to be honest there are real harms out there that take precedence over eliminating tautologies in my "carefully curate my vocabulary to please the internet" priority list.

For my European followers:
- DRINK WATER!!!! Lots of it. More than you think you need. Use a metal water bottle to keep it cold. If it’s not cold, put ice in it.
- A good way to cool down your face and other exposed body parts is to put water on them (via a spray bottle or your hands) and then fan it off. The heat transfers to the water and then to the air going by and it can be a pretty dramatic effect
- You can also wet a t-shirt with cold water and put it around your neck
- When outside, protect yourself from the sun with a hat (the wider-brimmed the better) and sunglasses
- Dress as light as you can. Tank top and shorts.
- Stay inside in air conditioning as much as you can. If you don’t have it in your house, see if you can find a public building that does (though I don’t know how many public buildings have it in different places)
- If you have a basement, head down there, it will be cooler.
- If you don’t have access to any of that, get in water. A pool, a lake, a river, the ocean. If you can’t do that, get in the shower and put the water on cold.
- Another good place to go is somewhere with a lot of tree cover. A forest, the woods, a park with a lot of trees. Days that are unbearable out in the sun or under covered structures can be hot but not terrible if you’re in the woods.
Addendum: The one place that is guaranteed to be climate controlled no matter where you go is supermarkets. Go to the supermarket to cool down if you need to and you have nowhere else to go.
