Aged up designs of the IZ and TGaMM cast!!
Had an idea for a few dumb crossover comics that required aged-up designs for these guys, but it may or may not have evolved into a full-on AU sort of thing that takes place about 20 years after the ends of each respective series

What did Andross do to himself?
Most of us are used to seeing Andross like this:
Just a giant head and hands with no body to connect them. It is believed Andross became this way due to his experiments. However, in Star Fox Zero we were given this render:
A full body Andross! The only look we get at him with a body. We can see this towards the end of Hidden Plans, the Corneria revisit. It's the hologram that's projected when he talks to Star Fox after the Gigarilla's defeat.
Once Fox actually faces Andross however, he is once again just a floating head and hands. Albeit a very metal version of the head and hands.
I don't think Zero Andross actually ever had a body. The robes obscure this well. Making it appear as though there is a body beneath. However Mighty Andross 64 on Bluesky gave us a better look at the renders here.
I wanted to highlight this image in particular:
What looked a bit like a pedestal or base that Andross is standing on in the full body render is actually a bunch of cords and wires. All of which go up into the robes.
These aren't the only tubes we see on Andross. You can clearly see them hanging under his arms. The full sheet by Mighty Andross 64 also gives us a look at one coming out his back.
Whatever Andross has done to himself, I don't think there's a body under those robes. I think it's a machine. This is further supported by his lack of feet beneath the robe. (Though I acknowledge that might be because no one was ever supposed to look up there so maybe they didn't think adding the feet was necessary? At the same time though, we don't even see the full model in the game. They didn't need to include all the tubes and wires down there either.)
Also, when you fight Andross, his head and hands are all made of metal. The head has a phase where it looks organic still, but then it shifts to the metal one.
Mighty Andross 64 has another post showing that in the shape you shoot to damage the head, Andross' brain can just barely be seen. I suspect Andross reduced himself to his 'true form' from 64. His brain.
The head and hands we see - the full body we see - is just a machine meant to house and protect this brain. Perhaps the full body is a sort of life support system that he can separate from temporarily? We'll never know.
It is interesting to think about, however. Just what was Andross trying to do with his experiments? Did he mean to reduce himself to being just a brain or was it an accident? His unchecked experiments going too far?
If Andross must come back again in yet another reboot for the series, I hope this idea gets some exploration. Though I doubt it will. (Also if we could keep the story moving forward instead of rebooting again, that'd be great.)

Out of all the Nintendo villains, Andross confuses me the most because of this. It’s never explained how he became a giant floating head and I want to know why. So something like this helps provide some context (in addition to a theory I heard, where Venom’s atmosphere is so bad that he took drastic measures to survive it.)
I admit-it would be wild if Star Fox gets its own movie and it’s Illumination that actually gives the proper answers to how this body horror came to be. (Also the idea of the same studio who gave us all those Minion films dabbling in the body horror genre ? Yes I would love to see that.)
While I can’t answer directly, I think there are some hints scattered around towards what he was trying to accomplish, especially with some of the info in the new remake-
The Venom 1 variant is heavily implied to have been a hasty decoy created as soon as he caught wind of the Star Fox team coming to take him out. Because neither he, nor these decoys end up being used in the actual war, I believe it’s safe to say his body wasn’t fully complete, even if his mind was.
We can assume, thanks to the Venom 1 golem and the Spyborg, that he was experimenting with actually constructing a new body for himself. [It’s possible the Spyborg was ‘incomplete’ because it was supposed to contain Andross, but there’s no proof of that]
It’s also safe to assume that increasing the size of his brain was a ploy to increase his intellect. If his stupid pun didn’t spell it out already, the analysis of his brain in the new holoviewer seems to imply that the new brain has vastly increased processing speed and storage capacity. Being an expert in biomechanics, it makes sense he was able to integrate the hovering, warping, and tethering tech used in the original seamlessly.
The underground area in which he’s contained seems to have its own atmosphere in 64, which might explain the exposed brain tissue, but there’s remake shows the biomechanical bits more overtly, with his brain being contained in some kind of sealed stasis tank.
The skin utilized by the main body and the decoys appears to be naturally grown tissues of some kind, probably derived from actual samples of his original body.
Basically, I think he was trying to enhance his intellect over anything else and abandoned his body at some point before completing the process. It can be assumed the process was completed relatively recently based on how primitive or minimal his attempts at replacing his body parts actually are.
Then again, I’m probably missing something, idk

the thing about art is that sometimes you'll be moved to tears by stuff that is not very good
I admit that the ending of the Lorax movie made me cry. It's not the best film, but there was something beautiful about the Once-ler finally escaping that house, and the Lorax finally coming back as the Once-ler hoped, years after the original book and cartoon short was released.
I know MIB 3 gets a bad rep in some circles, but that movie hits all the right notes for me. Especially the ending, with J learning about what happened to his father and K just being there for him, it always gets me [That, and it makes a joke in MIB 1 retroactively so much funnier and so bittersweet]
