My name is Robin and I'm a writer. Mainly write about my OCs and fanfiction but this is primarily my writing and OC account.

My stories with my characters usually have hurt/comfort, slice of life, dark themes, and other things like that. Everything is purely self-indulgent or done to indulge others!

Trauma is my main niche for posts, usually trauma from abuse or other things of that nature.

Everyone should be able to write what they want, no matter how lighthearted or how dark. Fiction is a safe place to explore and write all topics. This page will always be profiction and anti-facism.

to be clear, I believe younger artists and minors can write good fics (not to say “fanfic must always be good” either because it is a hobby and I still believe that as long as it’s done with love and the artist’s joy, it is good) and I believe it’s good when younger artists and minors start making art at young ages.

that said, a lot of fanfics out there that you read and love are done by adults with kids, jobs and responsibilities. adults who have years, decades of practice under their belts. adults who don’t let life and responsibilities take away their joy in creating.

someone’s love and passion don’t suddenly go away the second they reach a certain age. so if anything, I feel sorry for people who say “adults shouldn’t write fanfics or make fan art” because what these people really say is that they expect themselves to stop having fun and finding comfort in things that bring them joy and comfort the second they reach a certain age. it’s sad that they put an expiration date on their own fun and source of comfort.

This! All the people who taught me what I know about fandom are in their late 20s and early 30s! But many great fanfic authors I know are in their 40s as well.

Younger fandom sadly seems like they're losing fandom etiquette :') Hopefully this trend decreases over the years

I see a few new AO3 writers do this so I just wanted to give out a reminder:

AO3 is not a job or a social media. You do not need to upload a chapter telling your readers "Don't worry! I'm making new content soon" or "Sorry for the lack of updates. It'll be updated soon"

Your fanfiction is your time and it's for free. You don't need an uploading schedule and you don't need to feel guilty about not updating a chapter when you planned to. You don't even need to feel guilty if you never post ever again.

And this next piece of advice is more subjective and my opinion, so I'm doing a separate reblog but:

I think it's more of a hassle to readers when a story says 2/2, they click the next chapter, and its the author saying "I'll update again soon" and that's all it says

Of course, people can do whatever they want with their story and if posting a chapter about not updating makes them feel better, they should do it.

However, I do personally think it feels worse than just clicking on a 1/? story or 1/1 story. It makes me think there's more but there isn't.

So please, do not apologize for not updating or not uploading. Fanfiction is meant to be fun; not a job.

Purity culture kills people, it really does.

At the very least emotionally.

The amount of people who learned they were assaulted because they read fanfiction that didn't censor sex is a lot more than you'd think.

I think our lack of willingness to understand paraphilic disorders is really holding us back as a society.

Victims and those with no-contact paraphilic disorders specifically suffer the most.

There's so much social stigma and legal consequences that a person can face if they talk about having a paraphilic disorder (even if its no contact), that psychologists barely have anyone to base research on.

I'm trying to research and studies about paraphilic disorders and coping skills for them but I can barely find anything; just preliminary studies here and there.

It's hard to find ways to treat paraphilic disorders, prevent harm, and find good coping skills when people are too afraid to speak up about having it.

By reinforcing the idea that anyone with a paraphilic disorder should die or be punished, we're excluding people who are aware they have the disorder and haven't hurt anyone.

Our current system enables people who cause harm and hurts people who don't cause harm.

As a disclaimer, I'm saying that understanding paraphilic disorders helps prevent people from becoming victims, and that people with paraphilic disorders who haven't caused harm aren't bad people; they have a disorder which isn't a choice.

If a person has a paraphilic disorder and they have caused harm, then they should be punished for that action because action is a choice.

Making it a taboo subject doesn't stop predators; it hides them (the ones who do hurt people). All while keeping those who do want help quiet, as well as victims because making things taboo does not encourage speaking out or getting help.

More research = more education, understanding, preventive measures, coping skills, knowledge, human rights, protection for victims, and so much more that would be 100x more beneficial than making it a taboo topic.
