TLDR: In ten days last month, the Wikimedia Foundation fired the longtime lead developer of MediaWiki and disbanded the team whose entire job was to listen to volunteers. Most of the people they fired were union organizers. Wikipedia’s editors are now threatening to strike in solidarity. The Foundation is sitting on $296 million in reserves and a freshly profitable AI revenue stream. This is a confrontation with global implications.
It has been suggested elsewhere that if you are a Wiki Foundation donor, it would be a good idea to email and explain that this kind of behaviour will lead to you withholding future donations.
I wanted to send a compliment for Acids and Silver Chloride! You do a great job writing Samira getting through and getting over working for Robby, and it's genuinely helped me with how I think about my PhD advisor (hence the anon 😬). In any case, fantastic writing, very cathartic, please keep up the good work!
Thank you for sharing anon! PhDs are hard enough, but a bad or selfish supervisor can genuinely affect the work. I'm glad you're finding a way to deal with yours. Good luck and well done on doing a PhD!!
This one is pissing me off because there’s cheese in it. I’m not sure there’s a period of Chinese dynastic history wherein the type of dudes likely to be having rap battles would also have been familiar with hard cheese. There’d be political fucking implications to that. Fermented dairy products were often seen as uncivilized foods, and were associated in particular with northern “barbarian” cuisine (see: <lactose intolerance in Eurasia>), whereas competitive poetry was viewed as a civilized and scholarly pastime appropriate to civil servants and courtiers. Mentioning cheese in a verse which also references the heavens could be seen as an effort to legitimize the presence of these dangerous foreign elements within Chinese society, and, thus, as seditious. If dairy were to become a common theme in rap battles, it might be viewed as a dangerous sign of poor morale and defeatist thinking among the literati. “Emperor, we have got to move the capital to the south. The scholars are rapping about cheese. It’s all falling apart.”

Yet another new study debunked the basis for the anti-trans sports bans. It was never about sports but for creating legal avenues for exclusion and abjection. This is one of the largest analyses ever conducted, involving 52 studies and 6,485 trans people. Read the study here.
post so nice had to reblog it twice and force it down everyone's throats
At minimum about 4.5 thousand people liked this without reblogging it.
We gotta fix that.

“ A series of photographs by Piotr Sikora, created in collaboration with Piotr Bondarczyk, depicting Polish folk costumes in the context of contemporary multi-ethnicity. The project deals with the recent changes taking place in Polish society, which became almost entirely homogeneous after the Second World War when communism took the country in control and which is today experiencing a groundbreaking openness towards other cultures. . “

Rock these clothes, folks! They all look so fabulous and the clothes look fabulous on them! And I’ve seen all these costumes so many times, but here they have this whole new character - like Jevone, the napping Goral! :D
This is my fav photography project so far in ever.
Happy Pride!
Every pride, you must reblog this. No exceptions
I love that four different people on my feed scheduled this joyous person to reblog by 8am on June 1. I look forward to seeing this a dozen more times today.
