Little practice edit.
Because apparently I will learn how to use a whole ass new program rather than fold washing or finish other projects...
The pitt thoughts and predictions;
Dr Robby - I am worried for this man's mental health driving without a helmet is basically "I wanna be an organ donor" vibe. Not well.
Dr Al - In for a traumatic reality check, she seems intelligent and competent but definitely has been thrown in the deep end without adequate preparation by Gloria.
( An aside about the Pitt nickname. Most people hear pitt as in deep hole. But a pit crew is actually the source of many medical practices. The organisation of a procedure or resuscitation is inspired by the organisation and team work of the F1 crews. The Pitt isn't a hole of despair and darkness. It is a chaotic but well oiled machine able to change four tires and fuel up a high performance car in under 20seconds. I could go on, but you get it.)
Little girl with numerous injuries - Not being abused. Definitely something deeper going on. Possibly neuro, my personal bet is CIP. Too calm, too flat, too unbothered about bruises.
Dr King - this deposition is going to suck. I also think that langdon will either tell her, or she will find out, about his benzo abuse. This will throw her wildly off balance.
Deaf woman in the waiting room - didn't hear her name, will probably deteriorate because noone noted or checked her file to see she was deaf and needed other cues.
The baby - mum will come back. There will be lots of back and forth about returning him to her vs the system. Spoiler mum will get him. One of the other characters may at some point express being an option for him.
Emma - this poor, sweet girl is in for a hell of a time. She'll do great though. Trust.
Louis - (the alcoholic) will decline to the point of needing resus. Definitely has an underlying lung or heart condition. If noone does an ecg on this man I swear to God...
Langdon - I feel like he's done the bare minimum and expects to be forgiven and all to go 'back to normal'. Over the course of the day someone will reality check him. I hope it's Mel. Additionally; triage is not where Robby would put someone who he doesn't trust with patients. Langdon feels put out because it's not the cool fun trauma bs, but again, reality will find him.
Looking forward to ep 2.
Almost finished the season and time to add my thoughts again!
Robby is on the verge of fucking tears the whole ep 11. All the signs are there. All the stressors are too. His department is overloaded and ICE just walked in and arrested a nurse. He doesn't have the awareness or space to see Samira struggling, or Mel falling apart. He is avoiding Langdon because he still feels betrayed and his only outside friend has just been diagnosed with possible lymphoma. He can't let himself admit that Al is going to do ok at his job. He needs this job almost as much as it is killing him. And he needs to believe that it will fall apart without him. Because he needs himself to matter.
A year ago he had the awful experience of the mass casualty event and during it he made a mistake. He should never have worked on the girlfriend. There is a reason we don't treat patients we know well or are related to. Because even if you do everything right you will ask what if. They become a walking reminder to the time. It destroyed Robbys only apparent outside relationship, his confidence in hopeless scenarios. When they can't oxygenate the kid Al does the slash trach on you can see him start to waiver.
I have no idea how this is going to be resolved. Because what he needs is help. A structured and external support system to his work. A recalibration of his value and worth. Listen, as someone who has stood in Robbys emotional shoes here, perhaps not the same extent, this takes years.
Al Hashimi is doing boss ass shit. That slash trach was amazing. She's been checked though. Her expectation of how the day will go have not come through. Gloria didn't properly prepare her or Robby for this change over. And Robby is continuing to shut down her attempts to reach out. All around the staff are dealing with things on the floor because Robby and Abbot have ingrained in the habit of walking it off after the shift. But they need a support and debrief ling structure that will allow many of these things to get flagged, which I suspect Al will employ when she can. She's been mislead around the circumstances of everything. The exec choosing to talk to her was purposeful, he knew he'd get pushback from Robby for time, and Al probably didn't think it would be so instant because she doesn't know the guy. That said she is a great doctor, intelligent and calm and already has been shown to flag her inner concerns with outside sources (she called someone in one of the eps. I think a Neuro maybe). I really look forward to what she brings to the table next season.
Mel is floundering. On the day of the depo - a stressful and awful experience - she learns her sister hasn't been entirely upfront with her. She thought she knew Becca and is now having to readjust. Robby is giving her platitudes instead of real support. Santos and Whitaker have buddied up and dealing with their own shit, and Langdon is being nice but also hasn't been here. I think his apology reminded her she doesn't know him, even though she still trusts him. I'm glad Dana gave her some support, but I hope her colleagues notice she needs some love too.
Emma really got fucked with that cliffhanger. Poor kid, she's doing great, probably acting with minimal support considering a number of nurses have had to leave or are running around following up path etc. left alone when dealing with a possibly confused or aggressive patient. She'll be shaken but ok, she's already made great strides and follows examples extremely well.
Langdon. Santos called him out rightly in IMO. He hasn't been fully honest with people to properly apologise. He hasn't got a support system in place. McKay mentions she's also sober and it looks like the first time he's met someone in the world who's going through something similar. Santos is right. He fucked up, he's dealing with the fallout and yeah, it sucks, but it doesn't mean anyone else owes you slack. Al doesn't know the extent of his behaviour, and he hasn't even considered actually telling her.
**Let me be clear, drug and alcohol addiction is an awful disease that can happen to anyone under the right circumstances. And everyone should have the opportunity to be forgiven and get on with life. But as a part of that healing process honesty must be practised. Full. Honesty. He should never be unsupervised with the drug cupboard in a chaotic place like ED. Avoiding temptation is part of getting better.**
Santos is kinda of a bitch. She likely has had to be to get by and or taken seriously through life. I also find her difficult to like at times, and frustrating in her interactions. She complains no-one likes her but also makes little to no effort to be seen as approachable or supportive. The thing with Garcia sucks, but she needs to stop chasing her at work. She needs an outside perspective and someone to vent to about her frustrations. Now, she has grown on me. She doesn't put up with bullshit and calls people out when needed. But so does McKay, and she manages without making anyone else feel small or targeted.
Other thoughts:
RIP Louis. You're where you wanted to be, I hope you're at rest.
The other unhoused are displayed as characters with depth and agency, and it is refreshing.
The sexual assault story line, along with Dana's frustrating, empathy and professionalism? Absolute cinema. Wonderful. Emma did so well with that patient.
The baby: still in Ed, frustrating but understandable from an admissions perspective. Not sure how it will play out. I still suspect mum will come back and, frustratingly, be the only viable option at that point. Hard to say. Hopefully a foster situation will appear.
Joy, what a star. Calm, collected and cool as hell. Tried to offer support to Samira. Called Ogillve out on his nonsense, stood there and recited the entire patient board when she could have easily just said nothing and trusted the nurses and other staff to sort it out. Needs to lean to compartmentalise concerns until the right moment, but isn't wrong about being suspicious of mum. Needs a CPS report regardless of mum's reaction, or even the situation.
Ogillve. We love to hate him but he's a classic product of well educated and never encountering true competition. Probably has never considered he might miss something or not think of it. It's a learning day and it'll make him a better doctor. I don't think he's suited to ED. Anaesthetics probably.
Not sure if this comes through but I'm not American. I'm in Australia. When people come to my ED there isn't a big worry about cost. If they don't have Medicare or equivalent partner coverage like NHS, there might be a bill, but nothing like in the states. The anxiety this season has built around billing hits hard, and I'm sure many Americans can relate. As an outsider it is frustrating, and I hope it is something that will improve.
At the same time ICE has been making the world concerned with their actions. The way the taller agent never lowered his face covering. The way he moved into peoples spaces to tower over them. Peak BS manly "you should be scared of me" behaviour.
The actor was in the show briefly but boy did he make an impression. I hope he got to enjoy his time on set a little because what a difficult role to pick up.
Shout out to Noah Wyle, and the whole cast really, for the performances. Noah hits me hard because I see him showing signs I recognise in myself. The scene with Abbot? Ugh. Painful to watch. I'm no director or film expert but; what a fucking performance. He is acting his socks off.
The cast balance their roles so well. Going between trying to be professional, to being concerned and worried for patients, not knowing what to do, or knowing exactly what to do. The love for the nurses and the support staff is also strong this season.
Really hope there's a season 3, though I would love to see more of those night shift hotties. You know that's when shit gets real weird.

The amusing irony of a dude driving a big ass imported Chevy truck, in Australia where Ute's are traditionally smaller and much more versatile, with a vanity plate referencing an anime, dragging a tiny ass tradie trailer with a "Fuck off we're full" Australia shaped sticker on it; is not lost on me.
*releases pack of dads into home depot* go……be free
invasive species encroach on lesbian territory
This is a common misconception because they’re such similar environments, but you should be aware that dads are native to Home Depot, while lesbians are actually native to Lowe’s. At this point, however, both dads and lesbians have made themselves at home in both Home Depot and Lowe’s to the point that trying to separate them back into their original ranges would probably do more harm than good to the delicate ecosystem of large chain hardware stores.
A properly raised and socialized Dad will be perfectly comfortable cohabiting with Lesbians. Its not really “encroaching on another’s territory”. You wouldn’t say that about foxes in a forest that also homes bobcats, would you? No. It’s just two different species that have both evolved to live in similar/the same environment. As long as they recognize each other as equals, Dads and Lesbians are more than capable of cohabitation.
Now, if you were to release a pack of Lumberjacks into a Lowes or Home Depot, that’s where chaos will reign. Being adapted to a far harsher and more demanding environment, the Lumberjacks would simply push Dads and Lesbians both out and also consume far more than a sustainable amount of resources. It would be like releasing bears at a country club.
As a former timber-harvester… I feel this is potentially accurate in theory. But highly improbable in actuality.
Lumberjacks, like most megafauna species generally require more space than the average hardware store, even a big box store could provide. The misconception is that Lumberjacks are a social species because of how they often work and live together.
This is a matter of necessity, not preference, and a survival technique for thriving under the LogBoss.
A “pack” of Lumberjacks, if not under the environmental pressure of a LogBoss will naturally disperse until they each have a wide territory.
Lumberjacks rarely fight for territory.
One on one, a Lumberjack could drive out a Dad or Lesbian, however the latter tend to travel in social packs.
Lumberjacks will passively retreat on the presence of large numbers of people. Kind of like Sasquatch.
Getting a “pack” of Lumberjacks assembled would be hard enough unless they were forced into a Hardware Store by a LogBoss. In that case, they would already be in a heightened and potentially agitated state far above their natural behavior. This artificial scenario can be likened to a circus animal running amok. If it had been in the wild, the incident would not have occurred.
Free-roaming Lumberjacks are the cryptids of the Hardware ecosystem. They are surprisingly quiet and unobtrusive.
Please stop labeling Lumberjacks as dangerous roving social predators. They are intermediate level omnivores and remarkably peaceful unless threatened.
As a hardware store worker I can say that this is all 100% accurate.
now how in the FUCK am i supposed to leave tumblr when a god tier post like THIS is just is just waiting for me daily?!?!?!
question where does the “art student” or “DIYer” “crafter” or “soap maker” or “miniaturist“ etc. who has ventured into the store for supplies fall into the ecosystem/what is their impact of said ecosystem?
Most of the above are native to craft and hobby stores (art students, historically, are native to museums, but having been introduced to hobby stores, have found a niche for themselves and thrived), but all can be seen in hardware stores on occasion due to territorial overlap. They are generally low-impact, as they tend to stick to specific small areas and primarily utilize different resources. While a large group of any of them can be disruptive (art students, in particular, are known to travel in packs), in general, they are more likely to have territorial disputes with one another than with the local fauna.
A point of clarity -“crafter” is a bit misleading; while it conjures a specific image, much like ‘fish’ or ‘reptile’ it actually covers a broad array of wildly disparate species, and in general, more descriptive nomenclature is preferred. Fiber artists in particular are a genus to watch out for, particularly in groups. Beware a roving pack of domesticated quilters. They fear nothing, will go anywhere, and due to their social nature, will often seek interaction from other species that thrive best in solitude. They are quite friendly, and will happily adopt members of other species; the concern is that their adoptees do not always wish to be adopted.
#in search of taxonomic precision and peaceful coexistence (via welkinalauda)
I do wonder how lesbian/bisexual lumberjack-mimickry fits into this
I can say as a former craft store worker that if you wish to see true fear, look into the eyes of a Dad who must venture into a craft store. Despite the overlap of familiar beings known to him from his native hardware store habitat, Dads are instinctively aware that craft stores are not for them; they contain unfamiliar perils and even the seemingly familiar may have strange variances and unnerving secrets. (”Why is this airbrush so small? What do you mean nails, why would you… WUT!!”)
Only experienced silverbacks or the boldest young Dads dare venture into a craft store for long without his mate or offspring to keep roving Craft Ladies at bay and guide him in this strange ecosystem. If a Dad enters with his mate and is separated from her, he will often scuttle for the seeming familiarity of Woodcrafts, Models, or Paints (the latter not to be confused with Fine Arts, unquestioned territory of art students), but he eyes Scrapbooking and Jewelry with trepidation and will usually venture into those exotic areas only in the company of females of his pack.
Lumberjacks are rarely spotted entering craft stores of their own volition, for while they do not fear it as Dads do, they know it is an environment unsuited for megafauna such as themselves.
Hardware store Lesbians generally adapt more easily to craft stores, although they may enlist another Lesbian of a subspecies more adapted to that environment to guide them until they find their niche. Lesbians have even been known to seek the aid of a Craft Lady, a native fauna that share similarities with Lesbians but are usually smaller and nimbler to suit their chosen habitat. Dads who witness this are often awed by the Lesbians’ temerity, for although larger, Dads are generally wary of the cunning and dexterous Craft Ladies and may mistake their enthusiastic pack greetings as predatory swarming.
Craft Ladies, secure in their ecological niche, have no fear of interlopers and take the presence of non-native beings in stride, although they may become territorial about scarcer resources.
The only truly invasive species that threaten craft stores are Brides-to-Be, who are mere annoyances individually, but like locusts may descend in hordes and lay waste, leaving swathes of destruction in their wake. Fortunately for the Craft Ladies, Brides-to-Be are seasonal and usually only a threat in the spring and early summer.
It Got Better
Is anybody going to address the newly invasive species of BuJo enthusiasts into the craft store/art supply store environment? Why aren’t we talking about the dangerous proliferation of Leuchtturm 1917s and the growing threat of Dotted Moleskins? I had to liberate a Dad from a tangle of washi tape in the art supply store the other day and it wasn’t pretty.
The natural habitat of journalers was stationary stores, which have been replaced by office supplies stores, not the same. Journalers invade the craft stores and art supplies stores to get the markers and washi tape and Sakura pens they require for survival.
@great-art-and-a-purple-tongue @onbearfeet THE LORE HAS BEEN UPDATED.
VERY IMPORTANT AND ENTIRELY ACCURATE now excuse me I gotta hit Lowes and Michaels.
Another thing to note is all of those habitats must adapt to the seasonal migration of goths. As soon as the faintest hint of spooky can be detected at those stores, goths will arrive in packs. A small pack of goths determined to forage can strip the shelves of a seasonal section bare in 30 minutes.
I like Bluey a normal amount for somebody without kids or any desire to have them and I didn't stay up the entire night looking for specific episodes on YT. I also like Muffin, Snickers, and Lila a normal amount and don't need to regularly hear children laugh for the serotonin boost like a crack addict.

High quality content.
I'm just putting this out there because I'm thinking about it and because I want people to know it's not just them.
I don't really read fic anymore. It's not because I stopped liking it, though. It's because I made a rule for myself that I'm not able to follow.
I told myself that if I read a fic, I should comment on it. And not just "I loved it!" but a detailed comment. A live reaction or at least quoting favourite lines. Maybe talk about symbolism or about references I caught or about characterization etc.
I did that because I loved the authors I was reading and because I'd received so many lovely comments like that and I wanted to be able to pass that joy onto others. But then I found it hard to actually comment like that.
I could manage it sometimes? Oneshots weren't too hard, for example, but multichaps? My rule was that I had to comment every chapter. And the kinds of comments I wanted to write, well that meant reading on my laptop because I hate typing on my phone.
Eventually, I felt so guilty when I read fic without commenting on it that I stopped reading fic altogether. Better to just not read if I wasn't able to hold up my end of the bargain.
I shifted out of my fandom not long after that, and I haven't found a new one that's sparked the same interest (ie obsession), so I don't know if I might be able to fix this habit if I ever get into a new fandom in the future. All I know is, don't be like me.
Comment as you can and when you can, but don't set up strict rules like I did. I can't speak for all authors of course, but I know that personally, I'd rather you enjoy my work without commenting at all rather than make yourself feel so guilty you stop reading it altogether.
[Edited to bold the main points I was trying to make because I think I clouded the issue with the way I wrote this]
Hey! As an author I love comments, BUT please don't feel like it's your end of an 'agreement', or that you need to pay me with comments, or even consistently comment or like.
I like that you're reading it, regardless of if you comment, like or share.

I have created a graph for your consideration
Excellent graph. Informative, accurate, easy to read. 10/10 would graph again.
I reblogged this last month, tagged it, and said “might as well see if it works.” I used this video as a reference to find all the forms that i needed (which is A LOT, especially if you’re a dependent) and sent them through the mail, not really allowing myself to hope.

Why Does Sleeping In Just Make Me More Tired?
We’ve all been there: It’s been a long week at work, so Friday night, you reward yourself by going to bed early and sleeping in. But when you wake up the next morning (or afternoon), light scathes your eyes, and your limbs feel like they’re filled with sand. Your brain is still lying down and you even have faint headache. If too little sleep is a problem, then why is extra sleep a terrible solution?
Oversleeping feels so much like a hangover that scientists call it sleep drunkenness. But, unlike the brute force neurological damage caused by alcohol, your misguided attempt to stock up on rest makes you feel sluggish by confusing the part of your brain that controls your body’s daily cycle.
Your internal rhythms are set by your circadian pacemaker, a group of cells clustered in the hypothalamus, a primitive little part of the brain that also controls hunger, thirst, and sweat. Primarily triggered by light signals from your eye, the pacemaker figures out when it’s morning and sends out chemical messages keeping the rest of the cells in your body on the same clock.
Scientists believe that the pacemaker evolved to tell the cells in our bodies how to regulate their energy on a daily basis. When you sleep too much, you’re throwing off that biological clock, and it starts telling the cells a different story than what they’re actually experiencing, inducing a sense of fatigue. You might be crawling out of bed at 11am, but your cells started using their energy cycle at seven. This is similar to how jet lag works.
But oversleep isn’t just going to ruin your Saturday hike. If you’re oversleeping on the regular, you could be putting yourself at risk for diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. Harvard’s massive Nurses Health Study found that people who slept 9 to 11 hours a night developed memory problems and were more likely to develop heart disease than people who slept a solid eight. (Undersleepers are at an even bigger risk). Other studies have linked oversleep to diabetes, obesity, and even early death.
Oversleep doesn’t just happen as a misguided attempt at rewarding yourself. The Harvard Nurses Study estimated that chronic oversleep affects about 4 percent of the population. These are generally people who work odd hours, have an uncomfortable sleep situation, or a sleeping disorder.
People who work early morning or overnight shifts might be oversleeping to compensate for waking up before the sun rises or going to sleep when it’s light out. Doctors recommend using dark curtains and artificial lights to straighten things out rather than medication or supplements. Apps like the University of Michigan’s Entrain can also help people reset their circadian clock by logging the amount and type of light they get throughout the day.
When you go to bed, your body cycles between different sleep stages. Your muscles, bones, and other tissues do their repair work during deep sleep, before you enter REM. However, if your bed or bedroom is uncomfortable—too hot or cold, messy, or lumpy—your body will spend more time in light, superficial sleep. Craving rest, you’ll sleep longer.
If everything’s just fine with your sleep zone but you still can’t get under the eight hour mark, you might need to go see a doctor. It could be a symptom of narcolepsy, which makes it hard for your body to regulate fatigue and makes you sleep in more. Sleep apnea is a potentially more serious disorder where you stop breathing while you slumber. It’s typically caused by an obstructed airway, which leads to snoring. However, in a small number of sufferers, the brain simply stops telling the muscles to breathe, starving the brain and eventually forcing a gasping response. In addition to all the other terrifying aspects of this disease, it’s not doing your quality of sleep any favors.
No surprise, drugs and alcohol might also be causing you to sleep too much, as does being depressed (In fact, oversleep can contribute to even more depression). But no matter what’s causing it, too much sleep is not good for your long term health. Rather than kicking the can down the road, try getting some equilibrium between your weekend and weekday sleep.
OK BUT, why is NOBODY talking about the fact that Din decided to have a mustache! Nobody sees his face! This mustache was completely just for him. He decided, while cleaning himself up one day, that he was going to have a secret mustache that no one was gonna know about, and honestly, I love that.
Someone add a gif set of the Rick And Morty ep of this dude defending his mustache choices:
