Hello!!! We now officially have three followers who aren't Star, so I figured I'd start an intro post (:

This blog is run by two people! We're in a queerplatonic relationship (with a third member who isn't on tumblr that may be mentioned occasionally) <2

Main rules are just be chill! Nothing NSFW or bigoted. Radfems and exclusionists of any type kindly fuck off or you will be blocked manually <3 I (Luna) block pretty liberally, so if you don't fall into one of the two categories listed above and you get blocked I either thought you were a bot or just didn't like something on your blog, don't take it to heart. Or do. You're blocked, idrc at that point

Main focus is to talk about our QPR (feel free to ask questions!!!), general queer stuff, and art! All forms of art, including writing, tapestry, painting, etc may appear at some point on here! Also possibly fandom shit but no promises

Luna: Ellooooooo!!! I am omni oriented aroace, and use any pronouns except he/him and it/its, with a preference towards neopronouns and then they/them. I tend to be the most active online, so don't be surprised if most of the posts end up being from me XD.

Hi! I know very little about QPRs and I was wondering, what is it like?

I've shared about it several times before but... It's a big relief more than anything. It's not something I could define easily, but it sort of brings me a solution to be left alone in a world where people seem somehow obsessed to put everyone in pairs for some reason – while at the same time never risking to dive into something I feel icky about like sex, or plain don't understand like romance.

It's just great to be able to hold hands with someone, cuddle with someone, roast movies with someone, have pet names with someone, and know they're perfectly content with the way you are together, all chill like this, without "catching feelings" for you or whatever. (God that's such a weird expression. So many heavily romance-coded expressions are so broad for something so specific, it weirds me out.)

People are gonna assume things about you because let's face it, most people probably don't get it, but it doesn't matter – plus, some actually do anyway, or still don't get it BUT also have the decency not to assume things, and that's pretty great.

And it's a great relief from the fear of abandonment that being aro-ace makes me feel – because when you're aro-ace and friendship is like the highest possible level of human distinction you feel, but it's not for other people, you just know you're always gonna be naturally put in the background of people's lives as soon as they get a romantic lover/sexual partner and possibly kids. You're always gonna come AT LEAST second and be left behind in a way. Having a queer platonic partner is having someone who agrees to keep you company and not let you feel lonely, while not putting you in the dead center of their life or on top of a scale of value, because they know THAT wouldn't feel right to you either.

It's letting me be myself, and be happy, and be comforted, without having to make compromises on my very identity. It ticks a lot of boxes for me in a way I didn't think could exist for my whole life until then.

...At least that's my experience of it, of course it's a very personal thing

I've been thinking about creating a discord server for the aspec community!

The server would be a safe space for all aspecs to interact, discover little-know labels and other parts of the aspec community (such as a-aesthetic, afamilial bellusromantic/sexual, etc), discuss shared experiences, learn more about the themselves and the community as a whole!

I could probably host/create the server myself, but I already have my own server, this blog, my main & irl stuff taking up my time.

So if enough people are interested in a server and the other mods think it's a good idea I'll find somebody to host (or just do it myself) + a beta team and get to work!

I fully support Pluto as an aro symbol (x) but as a space scientist I cannot support any arguments that claim it's because Pluto should be a planet. The true reason Pluto is an aro symbol is precisely because people tie the amount of love and care this wonderful celestial body receives to which label it has. Just because a relationship with someone is not labeled as romantic should not mean that this relationship has to be treated as less worthy of time and care and effort. Just because Pluto is not labeled as a planet does not mean it is less worthy of our time and care and effort.

Here is another reason Pluto is aro: Pluto has a heart shaped region called the Tombaugh region:

Now, Pluto and it's moon Charon are tidally locked, meaning they always face each other with the same hemisphere. Pluto's heart is always facing away from Charon. Some articles have phrased this as being tragically romantic, but I disagree! Here are two celestial objects orbiting each other for billions of years, and they are doing this while Pluto keeps it's heart hidden. Because in this case, love is not part of the equation that makes up their bond, romance does not play a part in their gravitational pull towards each other. That's aro as fuck, in my humble opinion.

Tips That Can Save Your Kid’s Life.

When I was a child, from the time I was about four and could understand things, my mom told me and my brother that we should have a secret word. That way, if we were ever in trouble or felt unsafe and we didn’t want the people around us to know we needed her to come get us, we could let her know. So she let us pick the word and my brother and I chose the phrase “peanut butter cups.” (I’m happy to share the phrase now since both my brother and I are adults now). 

I used the phrase twice in my life. Once, I was at a friends house when I eight years old. Her dad got really drunk and was throwing things against the wall. I was really scared and I didn’t want to draw attention to myself on the phone when I called my mom to come get me because I didn’t know if he would get more violent if I asked her to come get me. So I called her and was calm and after a couple minutes I asked “Hey mommy, did you get me those peanut butter cups from the store?” And she said “I’ll be right there.” And she came and got me within minutes. 

Second, I was a teenager spending the night at a friends house. Her brother and dad were drinking and they started talking about things that made me uncomfortable - ie: what they liked to do to women. My friend didn’t seem perturbed and said that was normal for them and that I shouldn’t worry. But I was worried because they were really drunk and I was 15 and the only ‘woman’ around that wasn’t related to them. I went in my friends room, told her I needed to call my mom and say goodnight. Before I hung up with her I asked “Next time we go to the store, can we get some peanut butters cups? I’ve been craving them.” And she came and got me, just like that. 

Two incidents, one as a young child, one years later as a teen. Don’t discredit this stuff, it fucking works. My brother used it a few times too. Let your child pick the word and no never, ever, ever, ever get mad at them for using it no matter what it is.

Off topic, but very important! I was taught to yell “this is not my mom/dad.” A young kid freaking out in public is likely to be ignored out of embarrassment, but a kid telling you right out that they don’t know who is messing with them? That will turn heads.

I feel like this should be said too if you see a child yelling things like “this isn’t my mum, or I don’t know you” or something don’t ignore them! This system relies on people actually helping the child! It dosent matter how rude you’ll seem or how anxious you are you could be saving a child’s life!

Even if you just ask the child “Do you know this person” if the adult butt’s in make sure to ASK THE CHILD! Even a shy kid will tell you they don’t know this person or just met them or something!

Another thing:

When I turned 11 my mom sat me down and we chose an emoji combination that we don't normally use (for safety reasons I am not saying what) so if I'm ever in a situation where I want her to come and get me I include it in my message. The most important part about this is that she will come up with an excuse for why I'm leaving. I could text her cause I think I'm in danger, something is making me uncomfortable, or I just plain want to go home, it doesn't matter. Way back when we established the code one of the key things she told me was that she would never say "xe wanted me to come get moon", she would make some reason that is her fault as to why I had to leave

I hate that this is something that we need to teach people, but everybody please know this <3 stay safe
