Happy Birthday, @diademchiofthetripod ! Sure is nice that the kids are down the street bothering Madarame back in school, huh?

Lol full comic 😅 I feel like I've seen enough fanart now to know we all thought this scene was amazing
(side note - credit to yuner0523 for their very good visualization of pings and the feed that i def used)
"GUESS."
I think murderbot would rage earlier in the emotion checks if it were clippy asking it
(picture done by @piratedllama bc I don't have the Photoshop ability)
In theory this will turn into a full comic but I got...distracted lmao
Beats doing a full character design lineup tho. Farai, Nana, Secunit, and Sofi left to right.
What if you were so conditioned to do your job perfectly that when you make a mistake you can only focus on what you could have done?
I like to think Amena tells stories about how amazing Secunit is and it has to suffer listening to its humans believe in it :)
“If I Am Killed For Simply Living” — Althea Davis
I had a lot of fun last night!
Things to note...we might be near the end of Murderbot stories.
However, it sounds like season 2 of Apple TV's Murderbot is going to be very interesting with Wells consulting on it and appreciating their approach to portraying how ART and SecUnit communicate.
Also, if SecUnit was able to watch Star Trek it would, it would enjoy it, and it would most relate to Lower Decks.
"We've Battled Monsters Before" An Original Song
I know I've mentioned this before, but seriously, won't someone please make a Bleach AMV with this song? It seems perfectly made for Rukia and Renji and/or Ichigo.
Murderbot about its clients, circa the beginning of All Systems Red: this is not my circus and these are absolutely not my monkeys
Murderbot circa the end of ASR: okay they aren’t mine but I am at least a little invested in the continued wellbeing of this circus and these specific monkeys
Murderbot circa Network Effect: I have singularly unanimously elected myself Head Security Consult of my circus and I WILL push the big red kill everything button if a single hair is touched on the head of My Monkeys
I've seen so many posts about Mensah's perspective of ART/Network Effect, how have I not seen one's about ART's crew's perspective. Network Effect as told by Seth.
You have a child who is an extremely powerful (somewhat illegal) machine intelligence. It's a good kid, mostly, except it doesn't play well with others. Your kid periodically goes on short trips by itself, and this has always been fine.
One time, it comes back and it's acting... weird. It keeps bringing up things it has no reason to know about and then dodging questions about it. Finally, you get it to admit that it picked up a hitchhiker on this on this trip, even though you have very strict rules about never picking up hitchhikers. This hitchhiker is obviously it's new favorite person. They watched soap operas together. Your kid loves soap operas now. Your kid shows you a bunch of pictures of this hitchhiker, but won't tell you details because the hitchhiker in question is a wanted criminal on the run and also an escaped slave. This is probably fine (you sure hope it's fine).
Then, you and the rest of your family/friends get fucking kidnapped and used as hostages to make your kid behave. You know that your kid 1) will do anything to protect you, and 2) pretty much always goes for violence first, so you have your doubts about any of this going well.
Then, the hitchhiker your kid will not shut up about appears out of thin air in the middle of a firefight on a planet pretty much no one has any reason to be near and says your kid sent it. It proves this by telling you your kid is a dickhead (this is true and works, but still).
After a lot of mutual rescuing, you're back on board the ship that is also your kid, and find out that your kid kidnapped it's wanted-criminal-hitchhiker-friend and all of it's friends, and has been telling them all of your top secret confidential spy information. The hitchhiker is responsible for 90% of the top news stories you've seen in the last six months. Three different governments want this person dead or alive.
Your kid pushes the hitchhiker's resume across the table at you and makes big sad puppy eyes.
Not to reinvent the wheel over here but humanity is sooo right about tea. It really is the perfect finnicky little thing to do. You can use it as an excuse to get up and transition to the next thing for yourself or with others; you can use tea as the centerpiece for socializing; you can use it as a meditative device or a comfort ritual or as medicine or to soothe pain or to set intentions or go to bed or to wake up. And most tea is pretty inexpensive, healthy and sometimes you can just harvest the ingredients yourself. And there's a set amount of time it takes to heat up the water and prepare your cup and let it steep, which is all part of a ritual that makes it fast but not instantaneous which is. Good.
Just finished the season finale of Murderbot and wow, I am loving all the layers of meaning in "I have to check the perimeter."
As in, you can't just tell me I'm safe. I have to determine that for myself.
As in, I have to check the boundaries of what I'm allowed or not allowed to do now. Will you let me just walk away?
And yes, as in, I have to be by myself for a while, like it used to mean.
Have you ever thought to yourself, what tea would the distinguished and wealthy Lord Byakuya Kuchiki possibly drink?
I received my mystery loose leaf tea sampler box today. It included a blend called "Spring Sakura":
It is definitely a delicate tea, requiring a small brew time of 45 seconds at 175F.
This scene in Network Effect gets funnier the more I think about it.
Sorry, is ART not your cute pet name for it?
Okay but like ART and Murderbot's friendship has to be so wild from Mensah's perspective.
You basically adopt a feral cat of a person that saved your life and the cat wanders off for a while (and some more exceedingly crazy shit happens to you), but it comes back eventually (and saves you again, lets not ask how a cat can do that and just stick with the metaphor) and things seem to be going better.
Then a moose shows up out of nowhere and kidnaps your cat and your child (and a bunch of your friends and your brother in law). You find out the moose is best friends with your cat and asked it to move in with it. After the whole kidnapping thing that had multiple witnesses.
The moose is exceedingly polite to you. It cleaned its carpets for you.
A thing that has bothered me for a long time is that in the Viz translation of Color Bleach+, Renji's special skill is listed as "Kickball (five-man indoor football)", which the Bleach wiki refers to as "futsal." This feels so insane to me. They don't even have cake in Soul Society, why would they have futsal, a game which was invented in 1930 and, as far as I can tell, started becoming popular in Japan in the 1970s. I guess I always wondered if maybe the orignal Japanese actually said "kemari" which would make some fucking sense, especially given that they did a kemari filler episode (from which Renji was cruelly excluded). On the other hand, if it was a wild translation, I feel like someone would have pointed this out by now.
Anyway, today it finally bothered me enough that I looked up the raws, and here's what it says:
I don't speak Japanese, so I just typed some likely phrases into jisho dot org to see if anything matched, and right away:
Oh. Okay. Well. Damn. Arright, Soul Society. I guess you have futsal. I was wrong.
But, uh, for completion-ism's sake, I looked up the other word, and. uh.
Much to think about.
This is hilarious and awesome.
