That line "astrally the male capable of assuming female form may achieve success in this formula" I find so intriguing. I wish Chumbley was still around for the explosion of gender diversity into witchcraft over the last few decades. I find that the Sabbatic current requires the witch to be comfortable abandoning and reshaping their gender as the needs of the work dictate. My understanding of Sabbatic witchcraft is so intertwined with my understanding of the fluidity of gender that, I've joked "I'm not sure I understand how a Sabbatic witch can be cis."
Working on a gin tincture (as an anointing tincture, not for consumption) out of Lee Morgan's Standing Without Falling
would totally hear more about how you plan to use it, if you feel like sharing! (no pressure)
So, a lot of folks talk about the trap of witchcraft 101 and never advancing, right? I think that's partially the wrong take. Sure, there are an absolute glut of book with zero variation. And that can't be avoided. But! In any practice, going back to your basics, your foundations is such important work. It's what you return to during stress ir faklow times. It's what reinvigorstes you. So, if you've been at this a while, like i have, every so often you come across an author or point of view who's basics are just left or right of center of what you do, and that is a good thing! It has good implications. That creates elasticity and helps you play and learn. Oh, I've got a 3 soul model, well this is a 4 spirit courts/powers model. Relearn all your basic breathing and meditation and energy work with a different scaffolding of support. Learn these new techniques, even if you dont keep them as part of yourregular practice, you're growing and can speak on the process with a broader knowledge base. Do the same thing but new. Which is what happens when you read a book from someone from a specific trad viewpoint that's similar but not the same, which is clearly the case for me.
So, to your original question: Morgan has us create this as a self-anointing tincture. It's very lunar. You take one moon to make it, and it rests until the next moon, when it's used to catch the moon's reflection, anointing your entire nude body, and then you meditate nude, in the light of the moon, covered in the potentially skin sensitizing ingredients in the fetal position on the ground. I know that sounds like a lot, but it's another one of those: are you dedicated? Can you get out of your own societal conditioning? Do you trust yourself? Do you want to connect enough to do the scary or uncomfortable thing? Moments that still somehow get to us all. Like when people learn the Lord's prayer backwards in Huson's Mastering Witchcraft.
There's more reasoning to it that I'm glossing over because I do think folks should consider reading the book, and I'm not about to give it all away. But for obvious reasons (blizzard of 26) I waited till this most recent full moon to make it and will finish this in April.
(Had this really dope realization that each item in this tincture makes for a representative of the other things he's writing about in that chapter AND that this is a great base for also anointing stainless steel since there's almost no oils to tarnish it, mostly just alcohol and herbs. So it is connective, protective, and multi-use, even if it's primary use is moon juice lol.)
that rules, thank you for explaining. and I like the way you articulated that sort of horizonal advancement, learning what someone else considers beginner work, as a method of deepening one's craft.
u can call ur skull-head deer oc literally anything else u don't even have to change the design
PLEASE. THIS IS A ONE INCH HIGH BARRIER: JUST DON'T USE A WORD. IT'S NOT HARD.
It's a frightening lack of respect for a group to go "hey this is our culture/religion/mythology? Please don't use that word" and apparently all the white people are like "but what if I did anyway to make my unity horror game 0.01% scarier?"
Just use a different word! Call it a deerman, deer god, forest spirit, whatever. Try to care at least a little when someone says not to use their culture for entertainment.
Here's a list of deer in mythology. If you have to have a mythology-based creature, you can go find one of these that's not THE ONE YOU'VE BEEN SPECIFICALLY ASKED NOT TO USE.
Also worth mentioning that those deer-skulled monstrosities have literally nothing to do with the actual folklore. That version of the legend was popularized by a racist white author who changed the description of the spirit to be much more animalistic, mirroring the way he described Native people in his work as animal-like. It’s a bastardized caricature of the actual mythology, steeped in anti-indigenous racism and dehumanization. Stop calling those things w******s, they are not.
You can read more about the subject here (mentions the spirit by name multiple times)
In regards to research:
Don’t accept witchcraft books for history. Read history texts.
Don’t accept witchcraft books for mental processes. Read psychology and biological texts.
Don’t accept witchcraft books for mythology. Don’t accept witchcraft books for religion. Read original texts and papers written researchers credited in their fields.
Use witchcraft books for witchcraft, and witchcraft alone. That is what they specialize in and what they are published for. If it branches out into a different subject, be suspicious and research the topic later.
On the note of that last point: if you’re reading a witchcraft book and they make a historical, medical, psychological, anthropological, or scientific claim, do one of two things.
Stop reading right then and look up what they’ve claimed
Make a note of the fact - sticky notes, notes app, notebook, etc. - and research it at a later date
When researching, look for high-authority cross-reference sources. What I mean by that is, look for sources that have a legitimate, easy-to-prove claim to expertise. This’d be sources like (for example, not exhaustive) university presses, scientific research papers, museum publications, experts with degrees and years of experience in their fields, and, for cultural information, elder members of said culture and internally-run cultural heritage organizations.
Great places to find solid sources for cross-referencing:
The Smithsonian
Encyclopedia Britannica
JSTOR
Oxford Academic Journal
Sage Journals
Science Direct
Google Scholar
Your local library
If no one else has made this claim, it’s probably not true and you should take it with a massive grain of salt.
ANTI-CAPITALIST AFFIRMATIONS
i am allowed to spend my time creating things, even if they are not beautiful.
there is no such thing as a "real job." all forms of work are real and valid.
there is nothing that i need to accomplish to be worthy. i am already worthy.
doing nothing is good for my soul.
i am not defined by what i produce.
my worth cannot be measured by my paycheck, my job title, or a list of professional or academic achievements.
i do not need to monetize my hobbies, it is enough to spend time doing something i love.
i will not let society decide what success looks like. i can define what successful life looks like for me.

I'm saying this from a place of genuine care: if you are seeing ghosts or shadows or having nightmares... and sageing, eggshells, Crystal's, and psychics arent cutting it..
Please.. please... check for things like gas leaks, water damage, vermin. I'm not saying your house isnt haunted, I'm just saying that carbon monoxide poisoning looks a LOT like being haunted.
I know that, you know that, but when it looks like supernatural things you look to supernatural solutions and you might not be thinking clearly.
I'm having a conversation with a pagan mom right now who thinks that dark forces are after her, so she's tried all the things that she knows... which apparently is not checking the hvac system for leaks.
Shes mad at me because I suggested getting an inspection because shes lived in the house for 14 years and she's always seen things like this and it's just gotten worse since she took over the house. Shes seeing entities, things are moving on their own, doors open and close on their own, people are being touched and scratched. 'Mold and gas dont do that!'
Drafty house. Uneven floors. Pressure changes.
Toxic mold syndrome can mimic depression and anxiety, cause listlessness. Guess what extreme anxiety can do. It can mess with your head. It can mess with your memory.
If you have scratches on you and you dont know where they came from, see a doctor. See a doctor. I dont know why you wont see a doctor. They can tell you if it comes from an animal. They can tell you if you're suffering from a mold allergy. They can tell you if you're experiencing side effects of gas exposure.
I wholeheartedly believe in ghosts. Absolutley not debating that ghosts and spirits and whatever you think you're seeing. I am posting this in a pagan facebook group. I 100% believe in ghosts.
I also believe in carbon monoxide.
Please check for gas leaks in your home. Please check for mold. Please check for critters. Like girl I believe you but please check these things.
She... got mad and deleted the post.
This is why we need to stress, and I mean really stress, that mundane explanations are just as important as superstitious ones, and why I genuinely worry about our echo chambers.
Yes, I know we all want to believe that the feelings of dread may be coming from an evil presence in the room, but also certain hvac systems hum at a frequency that causes confusion and anxiety.
Yes it seems reasonable that your doors open and close on their own because granmas ghost is still hanging around. But please consider that the foundation of your house might be shifting.
Yes, you might feel a sense that something bad is going to happen, but that can also be generalized anxiety or obsessive compulsive disorder.
And being in a circle that refuses to accept that mundane explanations for supernatural problems feeds and triggers delusions. The pagan/witchcraft community is extremely neuro diverse, and these delusions can trigger spirals and put people in very... very bad places.
Please accept mundane explanations.
You are not 'crazy' for seeing ghosts and your house is not dirty for needing an inspection.
If you get an inspection and it comes back clean, you can feel smug about being right. If you dont get an inspection and you're wrong you and your children could get sick and die.
Y'all I'm tired.
This is relevant to something else I saw online today from Greg from How to Drink:
With a lot of things in the brain, we don't have another person's perspectives to know what's usually experienced- this is why I know a lot of us have had the, "Wait, that's an ADHD symptom?" moment. It's never bad to check out your experiences with a doctor.
as a person with fucked up funny visual/neurological stuff like visual snow and palinopsia (I probably need to get it checked out) yeah this stuff is not normal. Kid me thought my vision was so good that I could see individual molecules but naaaah it’s astigmatism and difficult to diagnose/mostly inconsequential funny stuff with my brain
Additionally: physical conditions can also cause emotional responses. One of the most common but least talked about symptoms of severe illnesses (including anaphylaxis and conditions affecting your heart and blood) is a sense of impending doom.
That's something I see people describe feeling in a lot of spaces, both religious spaces and ones dedicated to neurodivergency, and it can absolutely be a sign that you're experiencing allergic reactions or that you have a serious condition that your body is desperately trying to warn you about.
Science and supernatural forces are not incompatible with each other. Believing in supernatural forces does not mean you should reject science.
There is a very famous Reddit post that illustrates this perfectly, although the supernatural was never suspected:
A reply:
OP updated from in the hospital:
This post is basically in the Reddit hall of fame now. Always check for mundane explanations. Always.
(knew somebody who insisted their house was haunted and refused to do anything “normal” about the clearly dangerous moldy spot in their bathroom. I finally suggested- “How do you know that isn’t just the way an evil ghost is messing with you? How do you know it isn’t literally causing the mold to grow, as a way to cause you harm in the living world?” so they finally called somebody, who took care of the evil ghost mold, and their breathing improved. even if you 100% believe in something spiritual or supernatural, sometimes you need to deal with the problem in a mundane way that genuinely works)
Once in a discussion of sleep paralysis, one of the participants talked about a demon she'd seen which jumped up on her bed, and had glowing eyes, and sniffed her crotch, and walked around her on the bed, and when it touched her there were tiny pinpricks associated with its feet.
She also acknowledged that she owns a cat and sleeps nude.
She did not see why this seemed relevant to her discussion of a clearly supernatural experience.

Hagging Out: April [🧹]
Thinking about taking part? Reply to this entry - or send me a DM - and I’ll add you to the list of April Hags. 💀
and if you have a favour to request, upon walpurgis night just mention it. – mephistopheles, ’faust’
WHO: To join this challenge you must 1.) identify as a hag (trans, non-binary, and dude Hags welcome!), and 2.) be 30 years or older. While not mandatory, all former participants have been some flavor of pagan or witch or Christian, so incorporating the challenge into your practice or devotional schedule isn’t just tolerated, it’s encouraged!
WHAT: This month we’re going for a ’Choose Your Own Adventure’ theme, with a focus on the rituals, workings, customs, festivities, and/or sabbat spectacles of Witches’ Night [aka Walpurgisnacht & Hexennacht], Beltane, May Day, and International Workers’ Day.
WHERE: In the convenience of your home! Unless, of course, you want to be a bit extra. Whatever you decide to do, and wherever you decide to do it, be sure to tag your posts with #Hagging Out so fellow crones can follow along. (Over the past few years we’ve essentially strong-armed everyone else out of the tag and claimed it as our middle-aged Hag fort, LMFAO.)
WHEN: April 30th-May 4th! Participating Hags are encouraged to complete their challenge and write their entry when it suits their schedule, then pick one of the five “open” days - April 30th, May 1st, May 2nd, May 3rd, or May 4th - to post it.
WHY: To consolidate our strengthening crone powers and exchange tips on the best way of covering stubborn greys. And because it’s occasionally nice to be social in the comfort of your own home without actually having people over.
HOW: However the eff you want! Planning on getting totally witch-faced at sabbat, or using the evening’s abundant vibes to provide some ooomph to a working or project? Tell us about it! Dusting off the broom and brushing through that second skin to get ‘em squeaky for Brocken? Building a bonfire? Constructing a maypole or a May garland? Enjoying a special, seasonal meal? We want the deets, yo!
PLAYLIST: A Hagging Out sabbat social needs a sabbat social playlist! If you’re participating in this month’s challenge comment with a song you’d like to add to our Witches’ Night and May Day themed playlist: https://youtube.com/Hagging Out Hexennacht.
…and remember: what happens at Brocken, stays at Brocken. 😈

Oh no no no. Not falling for this one again.
I Iliad in her Odyssey until she Aeneids on my epic poem
Hail Eris, I see we're trying to redo the events that followed the original snub. As told in the Principia Discordia:
"It seems that Zeus was preparing a wedding banquet for Peleus and Thetis and did not want to invite Eris because of Her reputation as a troublemaker.*
This made Eris angry, and so She fashioned an apple of pure gold** and inscribed upon it KALLISTI ("To The Prettiest One") and on the day of the fete She rolled it into the banquet hall and then left to be alone and joyously partake of a hot dog.
Now, three of the invited goddesses,*** Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite, each immediately claimed it to belong to herself because of the inscription. And they started fighting, and they started throwing punch all over the place and everything.
Finally, Zeus calmed things down and declared that an arbitrator must be selected, which was a reasonable suggestion, and all agreed. He sent them to a shepherd of Troy, whose name was Paris because his mother had had a lot of gaul and married a Frenchman; but each of the sneaky goddesses tried to outwit the others by going early and offering a bribe to Paris.
Athena offered him Heroic War Victories, Hera offered him Great Wealth, and Aphrodite offered him The Most Beautiful Woman on Earth. Being a healthy young Trojan lad, Paris promptly accepted Aphrodite’s bribe and she got the apple and he got screwed.
As she had promised, she maneuvered earthly happenings so that Paris could have Helen (the Helen) then living with her husband Menelaus, King of Sparta. Anyway, everyone knows that the Trojan War followed when Sparta demanded their Queen back and that the Trojan War is said to be The First War among men.
And so we suffer because of The Original Snub. And so a Discordian is to partake of No Hot Dog Buns. Do you believe that?
* This is called THE DOCTRINE OF THE ORIGINAL SNUB.
** There is historic disagreement concerning whether this apple was of metalic gold or acapulco.
*** Actually there were five goddesses, but the Greeks did not know of the Law of Fives."
To this day Eris is said to insist that the apple was for Thetis, for who is the prettiest one at a wedding celebration but the bride herself?
